Chapter 52: Pillow Talk at Night
Nighttime.
Night Lan decided to stay at the Night Watcher Base for the night after an invitation from White Paint.
With her family now condensed to Night Star and Eypar, the atmosphere was quite different.
Eypar was spinning languidly next to Night Star, seemingly engaged in some mysterious ritual to express her yearning for a cuddle.
It was truly unfortunate that Night Star wasn’t fond of cuddling—poor Ghost is heartbroken!
It’s all because she’s not a loli ghost, right?
Boo-hoo~
Meanwhile, Night Star was perfectly ignoring Eypar, her gaze glued to the screen in front of her.
Ever since recovering her memories hidden by the Supernova Star Eclipses, she’d been diving into the works of the Blank Songstress.
Whether it was live streams, various songs, or even interview shows, she watched it all.
And so, the day slipped away, and when it came time to sleep, she realized she hadn’t even made a dent in her viewing.
After all, in her memory, she had already seen all this ages ago.
“So, the singer is actually this amazing? No wonder they can sing so beautifully even after becoming a Star Eclipse; turns out she was a world-renowned songstress in her lifetime.”
Not only that, but Night Star discovered she was a fan of the singer all along.
After retrieving those memories clouded by the Star Eclipses, Night Star found out she adored the Blank Songstress’s music and had never missed a single live show—definitely a loyal fan.
But somehow, she had completely forgotten everything about the Blank Songstress, just like how one forgets about a singer from the future.
Is this the terrifying power of a Supernova Star Eclipse?
Spooky!
To avoid repeating that tragic experience, Night Star decided she needed to step up her game—she couldn’t flunk it like Lianhua did last time.
With that, Night Star powered down the screen and prepared to head to the bathroom for a shower.
Since Night Lan wouldn’t be back tonight, she had to shower and sleep solo.
Suddenly being alone felt a bit odd.
Showering wasn’t a big deal, but the real question was—who was she supposed to cuddle with tonight?
Night Star glanced at the floating goofball Ghost, lost in thought.
“Eypar, you’ll be my pillow tonight.”
“Uhh?”
Eypar’s tuft of hair suddenly formed a question mark, struggling to process the request.
Was this some kind of royal decree akin to an ancient emperor summoning a concubine for the night?
But Eypar began to get excited.
“Yay! Eypar pillows won’t wiggle around! Just hug Eypar tight for a good night’s sleep, okay~?”
How could Eypar resist such an opportunity for cuddles?
However, Night Star fell into contemplation again and shook her head.
“On second thought, maybe it’s fine to go without hugging something for a few nights.”
Eypar: “?”
“Hey! Night Star just invited Eypar! And Eypar accepted! So there’s no backing out! It’s wrong to lead feelings on!”
“Huh? Is that really important?”
“Absolutely! While it might not mean much to Night Star, for Eypar, it’s a monumental gift! Even if Night Star changes her mind, I’m still going to hug her tight and sleep!”
“Uh…”
Oh no, this ghost has totally gone haywire.
You know what, she’s never tried cuddling with a ghost before—tonight’s the night!
If it feels worse than a blanket, she’ll just kick it away; can’t compromise on sleep quality!
Night Star shook off her wild thoughts, grabbed her change of clothes, and stepped into the bathroom.
Showering without Night Lan was significantly quicker than usual.
No awkwardness here!
After slipping into her pajamas, Night Star efficiently dried her hair and zoomed to the bed, extending her arms like a soft little bean begging for a cuddle.
“Come here! But just so you know, if you mess with my beauty sleep, I’ll make you regret it!”
“Yayyyyy!”
Eypar’s tuft of hair bounced happily before she dove right into Night Star’s embrace.
Fortunately, Eypar was almost weightless, so she didn’t crush Night Star.
Night Star assessed the cuddle situation—surprisingly decent! Not as plush as Night Lan, but it would do just fine.
“Don’t move around! Time for sleep!”
“Got it! Eypar promises to stay still!”
And thus, the night began with Night Star’s sleep intertwined with Eypar’s pillow life.
…
Under the cloak of darkness, hidden currents flowed.
Countless “wolves” were drawn in, infiltrating Yun Chang City.
The arrival of the Blank Songstress promised endless revelry for the city, but it also invited various lurking dangers.
This unparalleled songstress was like a baton passed among the Night Watchers, protected wherever she went.
Now that the Night Watchers from the previous city had completed their mission, it was time for the guardians of Yun Chang City to step up.
The Night Watchers were already geared up for this task.
Meanwhile…
At Night Watcher Headquarters, a young man received orders from above.
“Oh? Head to Yun Chang City as a strategic Sunlight Night Watcher?”
The black-haired young man smiled slightly under the moonlight, lost in his own thoughts.
The girl beside him, curious about his upcoming assignment, asked, “Is the higher-up transferring you to another city?”
“Yeah, apparently they’re short-handed and need me to watch over a territory.”
“Sounds good; at least you won’t be slacking off here,” the girl quipped.
“What? You’re not even a little sad about us being separated? My dear sister?”
“Not at all! The further you go, the better—this guy treats his sister as entertainment?”
“Really breaking my heart here.”
“Hard to believe that you’d actually get hurt.”
“Why, thank you for truly understanding me.”
“After all, you are family.”
Seventeen-year-old Mo Tu decided not to bicker further and instead gazed at the full moon, a subtle smile curling on his lips.
“Did you know? My stars are telling me the city I’m heading to is going to be quite interesting; who knows what exciting things might happen—at least I won’t be bored!”
“Really? Sounds like it’s fitting for you.”
“Want to come with me?”
“Not a chance! I’ve had enough of you for a lifetime.”
“Well, that’s a pity. With this separation, who knows how long until we meet again.”
“You care about that?”
“Not really.”
The girl rolled her eyes at Mo Tu’s blunt response, her expression one of weary acceptance.
“I just hope you make it back to me in one piece.”
“Don’t worry, I’m not that easy to take down. Rather than concern yourself with that, think about how you can grow strong enough to stand on your own. If I come back and find you huddled in a corner like a scared little mouse, I might just laugh my head off.”
“Hmpf, I’ll work hard without your encouragement.”
With that, their conversation ended. Mo Tu stood up and left, preparing for his journey to Yun Chang City.
That city felt like a blurry haze to him.
What kind of fun things might unfold there?
Something to look forward to!
