Chapter 149: Xiao Yu’s Resolve
No doubt about it, the person who had been secretly tailing Xia Yu was none other than Jiang Kekai.
Imagine if Jiang Kekai hadn’t followed her, Xia Yu would be in a much worse predicament with those four adult men planning something dubious. Seeing Young Lady Jiang there made the four security guards really scared; now, how were they going to get out of this mess?
Even the security guard who had grabbed Xia Yu’s wrist now let go with super fear and a face full of apologies. He hurried over to Xia Yu’s side, and Jiang Kekai promptly embraced the trembling and teary Xia Yu, trying to comfort her. At the same time, she glared fiercely at the four security guards.
Yes, Xia Yu was afraid of them, but not Jiang Kekai.
Then, under the gaze of the four security guards, Jiang Kekai led Xia Yu to a corner where a red button lay under a clear cover.
Without hesitation, Jiang Kekai pulled off the cover and pressed the button.
Instantly, the alarms throughout the Jiang family villa blared…
Outside, the line of bodyguards on patrol rapidly moved toward the floor from which the alert was triggered, thinking someone sneaky had made their way in.
If that were the case, they would have failed the Jiang family’s expectations. In two minutes, a large group of bodyguards arrived at the floor where Jiang Kekai’s alarm came from.
But when they got there, they found no one else besides Jiang Kekai and the Xia Yu she held. The rest were all dressed in Jiang family work uniforms, couldn’t it be more obvious?
Next moment, they understood.
Seeing the signal, the squad leader ordered his team to surround the four mischievous security guards.
The surrounded guards were now pale-faced, regretting their ill intentions toward Xia Yu. But alas, hindsight is always 20/20.
“Take them all to the first-floor hall. I’ll handle the questioning later,” Jiang Kekai coldly said, then hugged Xia Yu and left without looking back at the terrified guards and their squad leader. “What’re you all still standing around for? Get moving!”
Seeing that the four guards didn’t budge even after Young Lady left, the squad leader couldn’t help but gloat, reminding them. Truly, why pick a fight with Young Lady and her girl?
It’s true; these bodyguards were different from regular household staff. Most had secretly protected Young Lady before, so they knew Xia Yu was of great importance to Jiang Kekai.
Messing with Xia Yu? Talk about begging for trouble!
Thus, the four guards were escorted by a multitude of bodyguards to the first-floor hall.
Meanwhile, Jiang Bin, Zhang Yunzhi, Jiang Dong, and Jiang Hanhang were all startled awake by the alarms, assuming some big incident had happened. Instead, it was just an arrest.
Driven by curiosity, the four went down to the hall to find out what was really going on. Jiang Bin asked a nearby bodyguard, “What’s happening? Who triggered the alarm?”
The bodyguard immediately spilled the beans knowing it was Jiang Bin asking, “Young Lady triggered the alarm, then told us to catch these four people and hold them in the hall.”
Pointing at the secured guards, he added, “In case they try to escape.”
Jiang Bin glanced at the four guards and sternly asked, “Explain yourselves. What happened?”
“Young Lady, it’s a misunderstanding. We never touched anything,” the guards pleaded.
“Right, right. It’s a misunderstanding,” others echoed, hoping Jiang Kekai would see sense.
Seeing their plea, Jiang Bin felt bothered. After all, he’d been in business for many years; he could tell truth from lies. So, he sat down quietly, waiting to see what his eldest daughter would do.
Soon enough, Jiang Kekai and Xia Yu came down, each draped in an extra coat. Jiang Kekai had fetched it from their room for Xia Yu.
Besides providing warmth, it was also to keep decorum amongst so many people.
Under Jiang Kekai’s comforting, Xia Yu’s state improved, although some traces of tears lingered.
As Xia Yu had another episode afterward, Jiang Kekai knew it wasn’t easy to calm her down again, causing her to genuinely detest those guards.
Jiang Kekai wasn’t surprised to see her parents and older brother and younger sister, as she knew how loud she had been. It would have been strange if they weren’t here.
The bodyguards immediately yielded, curious about what Jiang Kekai would do.
Jiang Kekai wasn’t in a good mood. As she faced the guards, her tone was harsh, “One by one, provide your details and explain how you got in.”
Despite her young age, Jiang Kekai commanded respect, getting honest answers from the intimidated guards.
Even the guard who sneaked in through his cousin’s influence disclosed his cousin’s identity, hoping Jiang Kekai wouldn’t hold grudges given the perks and pay.
But… was that likely?
“Because I don’t want Xiao Yu scarred, I wanted to chop off each of your hands and kick you out. Lucky for you, pack your stuff and leave.”
Her voice brooked no argument, reflecting her resolve. Some feared her words, some were relieved.
Xiao Yu, the little cutie, was secretly delighted, moved by Jiang Kekai’s protective stance. Her cheeks slightly flushed.
“Forgive us, Young Lady. We thought she stole your things and tried to run,” one guard pleaded.
“Think I’m naive? Even if Xiao Yu took my belongings, does that mean she has fewer of my gifts? Need me to learn how to share?”
Jiang Kekai’s logic was flawed but effective, as she doted on Xia Yu unconditionally.
She turned to her father, Jiang Bin, “Dismiss the lead guard for bringing relatives, and hold a new selection. No repeats.”
Jiang Bin nodded, understanding the severity of the matter. With two daughters, he knew such misconduct warranted serious action.
Watching Jiang Kekai and Xia Yu enter the elevator, Jiang Bin’s smile dissolved into a stern frown…
Later, Jiang Bin took action, and Jiang Kekai was reassured. She trusted her father to handle matters.
Back in the room, Jiang Kekai helped Xia Yu remove her coat, then gently stroked her head, soothing her, “It’s okay, Xiao Yu. It’s my fault, and I promise this won’t happen again.”
Unaware, her soothing made Xia Yu feel guilty, remembering her own mistakes.
Xia Yu understood the blame was hers, not Jiang Kekai’s.
Noticing Xia Yu’s silence, Jiang Kekai worried, wondering if she might have another episode, cursing the four guards.
bl**d Shadow noticed her concern and felt uneasy, “I’m fine, Little Ning. Thank you.”
Rarely, she hugged Jiang Kekai, feeling she was her biggest support.
Confused, Xia Yu wondered why she felt so dependent on Jiang Kekai and decided to strengthen herself. Determined not to impose anymore, she resolved to become stronger, like Jiang Kekai’s secretary.
After being placed back onto the bed, she remembered one word Jiang Kekai had mentioned—secretary. Intrigued, she decided to become a competent secretary, appreciating Jiang Kekai’s care.
