Chapter 150

Chapter 150: The Development of a Little Secretary

Early in the morning, when Xia Yu and Jiang Kekai woke up from their dreams, the events of the early hours had swiftly spread throughout the Jiang Family.

Indeed, the servants of the Jiang Family now knew just how crucial Xia Yu was to the Young Lady and that she was not to be easily provoked.

As for Jiang Bin, he moved equally fast—not only did he clean up the situation with that security chief who was sheltering relatives, but he also took this opportunity to remove quite a few people who had slipped in under false pretenses.

So, now these folks were utterly seething with hatred for those four security personnel. If it weren’t for them, they might still be sneaking around making off with gold!

After a good nap, Xia Yu’s mood had improved quite a bit. Though she remembered what had happened in the early morning, she was no longer in complete meltdown mode. “Little Cutie awake? Got any fun places you wanna play today? Your sister can take you along!”

Jiang Kekai poked Xia Yu’s little face, her eyes brimming with affection. Money was no object for her; even if Xia Yu wanted to hit the amusement park, she’d be all in. But surprisingly, Xia Yu shook her head wisely and replied in her cutest voice, “No thanks, Sister Little Ning. Didn’t you say you had work at the company today?” Since making that resolution in the early hours, Xia Yu had decided to be a good little secretary for Sister Little Ning and not add any trouble.

Naturally, she wouldn’t suggest going out to play because that would be not only dangerous but also a waste of Sister Little Ning’s time.

Seeing Xia Yu be so sensible, a smile of relief spread across Jiang Kekai’s face. “Alright then, my little secretary will go to work with me today!”

“Yay~”

Given the events that had unrolled recently, Jiang Kekai wasn’t about to let Xia Yu out of her sight. After their morning routines, she brought Xia Yu back to her room.

Of course, if they were heading to the company, Xia Yu needed to look presentable—no embarrassing the family out there!

It was at this moment that Xia Yu caught a glimpse of the totally different Jiang Kekai, who shockingly planned to wear a suit to work. Yes, a suit! A stylish white one adorned with gold trim, clearly tailored perfectly for Jiang Kekai. Xia Yu didn’t even know her sister had a preference for such attire!

Once dressed, Jiang Kekai turned to find Xia Yu staring at her dreamily, igniting her playful side.

With a mischievous glint, Jiang Kekai leaned closer, playfully lifting Xia Yu’s chin with her finger and smirking, “What’s up, Little Yu? Did I dazzle you with my charm?”

Xia Yu froze for a moment, then her cheeks flushed as she turned her face away, adamantly denying, “Hmph, no way!”

But Jiang Kekai could see right through Xia Yu’s fluster, unhindered by her response as she wrapped her arms around Xia Yu again, laughing, “Alright, Little Yu, you can pick any outfit you want from my wardrobe to go to the company. You can wear anything of mine, you know!”

“Really?”

“Of course! What do you think I am?”

Seeing that her Little Cutie was skeptical of her words, Jiang Kekai playfully ruffled Xia Yu’s cheeks until, after a while, she finally let up. Then came the grand moment of Xia Yu rummaging through Jiang Kekai’s extensive wardrobe, which was filled with all sorts of clothes.

To Xia Yu’s surprise, a quarter of the outfits were actually menswear! Who would have thought Sister Little Ning had a preference for looking dapper too?

So without any hesitation, Xia Yu pulled out a snazzy short-sleeved shirt and shorts combo and eagerly said to Jiang Kekai, “Sister Little Ning, I wanna wear this!”

“Perfect.”

Jiang Kekai wasn’t at all surprised by Xia Yu’s choice; she knew what Xia Yu liked. There was no way she would force her to wear a frilly dress or anything. Besides, with their looks and figures, pulling off menswear was a piece of cake for them!

Later, Jiang Kekai tied both their hair into neat high ponytails before handing her laptop to Xia Yu. “Little Yu, you’ve got to learn how to be a good secretary! This thing is important to me, so make sure you take care of it.”

Is this part of being a secretary too? Xia Yu wasn’t sure, but she accepted the laptop eagerly. If Sister Little Ning trusted her with it, she’d handle it with care.

After breakfast, Xia Yu and Jiang Kekai’s company adventure was about to begin.

Why do I say this?

Because Jiang Kekai had informed Xia Yu that today they’d not just be visiting one company but several, checking on recent developments and internal affairs. Given the nature of things, it was best they go see for themselves.

In the car, Jiang Kekai, feeling bored, began to play with Xia Yu’s ponytail like a little kid. But what could Xia Yu do? Just go along with it, right? It didn’t hurt, after all—just a bit of hair twiddling.

Once they arrived at the company, Jiang Kekai’s bright smile instantly vanished, replaced by an aura of authority. She had to look like the big boss; otherwise, the employees might get too bold!

Even though Xia Yu knew this was all a show, she couldn’t help but feel a tad intimidated. After getting out of the car, she quietly followed Jiang Kekai, clutching the laptop and not daring to disturb her work.

“Good morning, Boss.”

“Good morning, Boss.”

“Good morning, Boss.” …

They were all so well-behaved in front of Jiang Kekai, but once she was gone, the gossiping began. “Who’s that little girl following the boss around? The boss’s close friend? She looks so adorable!”

“How would I know? Our boss is the genius Young Lady of the Jiang Family; that girl getting so close must mean she’s not just anyone. Let’s not stir the pot.”

“Can we butter her up? Maybe get her to ask the boss for a raise?”

“Go ahead if you’re looking to be fired… I’ll wait for your backstory.”

“Er… Actually, I’ll pass.”

Walking behind Jiang Kekai, Xia Yu finally understood how amazing her Sister Little Ning truly was.

And this was just the tip of the iceberg! It still shocked Xia Yu; why was Sister Little Ning so formidable when they were practically the same age?

When they stepped into the office that belonged solely to Jiang Kekai, her stern expression softened, and she smiled at Xia Yu. “Did I scare you a bit back there?”

“Uh… maybe a little.”

Xia Yu fumbled under Jiang Kekai’s caring gaze, momentarily lost for words…

With a playful pinch on Xia Yu’s cheek, Jiang Kekai took the laptop from her hands and continued, “It’s just the two of us here, so you don’t have to be so stiff around me! Feel free to grab whatever you want from the fridge. Oh, and can you please get me a bottle of floral tea?”

Pointing to a corner, Jiang Kekai indicated the fridge, which indeed had one.

Remembering her secretarial duties, Xia Yu wasted no time. She dashed to the fridge, eager to fetch Sister Little Ning her desired drink. Knock, knock, knock!

The soft sound of a knock interrupted Jiang Kekai, but she was unfazed: “Come in~”

In walked an elderly lady with glasses, carrying a folder. Seeing Jiang Kekai stealing glances at Xia Yu while she searched, she adjusted her surprise and approached with the folder.

“Boss, here’s the recent data for your review.”

“Mm.”

Jiang Kekai skimmed through the folder before tossing it on the desk, going back to watching Xia Yu.

Curiosity piqued in the older lady as she observed this version of the boss, and daringly, she asked, “Boss, who’s this?”

“None of your business!”

Originally pleased with her diligent deputy, Jiang Kekai was now somewhat irked. Realizing she’d overstepped, the lady awkwardly smiled and exited the office.

However, she did glean a valuable tidbit: this girl mattered immensely to the Young Lady, who was notably protective of her, or else she wouldn’t have reacted so sensitively to her question.

Ah, the young ones. Even if she had her guesses, this wise lady knew better than to pry more—that’s why she held such a high position—she understood discretion.

“Here’s your drink, Sister Little Ning.”

Xia Yu handed over the floral tea without asking more questions.

She wasn’t deaf, after all; she’d heard every bit of the exchange between Jiang Kekai and that lady.

Though she was curious why Sister Little Ning hadn’t revealed her secretary identity, Xia Yu held her tongue. Maybe she just wasn’t impressing enough yet.

But seriously, thinking about how she wasn’t bringing any impressive skills to the table made Xia Yu feel a bit down. After all, she was actively trying to be a good secretary!

Perhaps too engrossed in her work, Jiang Kekai momentarily overlooked Xia Yu.

It wasn’t until a while later that Jiang Kekai printed out three sheets of paper and called out to Xia Yu, “Little Yu, I’ve got a task for you. Take this paperwork to Wu Yuchuan on the third floor and tell him it needs to be redone.”

Just delivering papers and passing messages, Xia Yu figured this wouldn’t be too hard, and she didn’t want to disappoint Sister Little Ning. With a determined nod, she agreed, “Sure!”

And just like that, Xia Yu set off with the three papers in hand.

What she didn’t know was that her Sister Little Ning had paused her work, attentively monitoring her every move through the security cameras.
