Chapter 151: Wife Protector Extravaganza Xiao Ning
“Third floor, third floor, third floor~”
No idea why, Xia Yu didn’t feel nervous when she was walking behind Sister Little Ning. But as she walked alone on her own and everyone stared at her, Xia Yu got super tense.
So now, Xia Yu wouldn’t dare to look at anyone or risk eye contact. Maybe this describes her mental illness—low self-esteem. But regardless, Xia Yu hasn’t backed down.
Yep, Xia Yu is still pushing through trying to overcome her mental illness. She doesn’t want others to worry about her. But overcoming it isn’t that easy, right?
Finally, after much torment, Xia Yu took three blueprints and went into the elevator and pressed the button for the third floor and waited.
Right then, there was a rush of steps outside, and before the doors shut, two guys and a girl hurried in. Unlike Xia Yu heading for the third floor, they were going for the first floor, so they pressed the number one button.
Xia Yu had just arrived, so nobody recognized her, including this pretty twenty-something who thought it was weird to see such a cute little girl around here.
Maybe because she was bold, this girl tried to flirt with the cute kid before arriving:
“Little sister, are you looking for your parents? Did you find them?”
When Xia Yu saw the girl asking, she started sweating nervously instead of answering. Right, Xia Yu’s too nervous. The longer she was away from Xiao Ning, the tenser she became. Especially in new environments, surrounded by so many strangers.
Several times she wanted to answer, thinking it’s rude not to, but as soon as she opened her mouth, it felt like her lips were glued shut.
Beep—
The elevator arrived at the third floor, so Xia Yu bolted out, awkwardly. Whichever way things went, she wasn’t going back inside. Wu Ningyu popped into her mind since this blueprint was meant for him.
A sweet little girl’s arrival naturally attracted the attention of the tech development department staff, given how few people worked without playing a bit nowadays.
When Xia Yu entered holding those blueprints, staff members not knowing her assumed she was some employee’s daughter dropping off stuff for their forgetful kid.
So, one by one, the team’s focus shifted toward Xia Yu, whose innocence drew a lot of attention. It might look harmless, but Xia Yu felt awful. So many eyes on her made her heartbeat speed up. Sweat came pouring down despite the cool air conditioning.
Now, Xia Yu actually felt like crying and quitting her task. Yet, she wiped away her tears and kept going, head bowed, not wanting to disappoint her trusty Xiao Ning.
Her odd behavior caught the attention of the department supervisor. About to cry, he quickly said, “Alright, folks, back to work.” The other employees reluctantly returned to their screens, while the supervisor leaned to Xia Yu, smiling kindly. “Little sister, are you here to find your parents? What are their names?” Even though curious about Xia Yu, he patiently asked.
Still unable to speak, Xia Yu showed him the blueprints signed by Xiao Ning. Instantly understanding, the boss replied, “You mean to find this person? I’ll take you there.”
With that, she followed the supervisor who led Xia Yu straight to Wu Ningyu.
Near Wu Ningyu’s desk, an unusual scene played out—the employee was playing games during office hours, losing badly with a score of 2–33. Losing, he got flustered and started berating his teammates online passionately, not noticing Xia Yu or the approaching boss.
The boss, even upset, considered Xia Yu might be connected to Wu Ningyu’s antics, so he decided to bring Xia Yu forward to talk.
“This is the person you’re looking for, go ahead.”
Seeing St. Wu Ningyu’s nameplate, Xia Yu identified him correctly but was startled by the sudden arrival of her boss. Why did he show up right now? A pay cut?
Wu Ningyu pondered her presence and linked her to his unexpected distraction, anger mounting further over his losing streak. Despite it all, he suppressed his impulse to lash out and gave Xia Yu a stern glare and coldly responded, “What do you want?”
The glare terrified Xia Yu, questioning what she did wrong and making the middle-aged man seem so hostile. But to complete Xiao Ning’s mission, Xia Yu mustered the courage and tremblingly handed over the blueprints.
Taking a deep breath, Xia Yu faced Wu Ningyu again, “Th…These need to be redone.”
“What gives you that authority?”
Stunned by these words, Wu Ningyu sprang up, screwed the blueprints into a ball, and launched them at Xia Yu.
Missed shot.
This frightened Xia Yu nearly to tears, doubting herself. “cr*p!”
Xiao Ke Ning watching through security cameras was alarmed, slamming her desk and rushing out. Too early! She blamed herself for letting Xia Yu fly solo. Initially, she intended to build Xia Yu’s confidence and mental health, but the situation spiraled.
Hastily arriving at the third floor, she found Wu Ningyu and the supervisor arguing, with Xiao Ning pulling Xia Yu behind her.
Although Xiao Ning hugged Xia Yu tightly to reassure her, Xia Yu remained visibly distressed, sobbing silently while hiding her eyes in Xiao Ning’s embrace.
Xiao Ning, ignoring other gazes, comforted Xia Yu with a strong, sisterly hug. No mushy words; Xia Yu needed support, without drawing extra attention. Seeing her boss come to the rescue, Xia Yu knew her mission failed.
Self-recrimination hit, missing her fighting spirit. Xiao Ning remained unaware of Xia Yu’s thoughts.
Facing Wu Ningyu, Xiao Ning’s expression hardened. Small but forceful, she challenged him, “Do you disagree with my decision?”
“You’ve revised that design four times. What else can I do?”
Wu Ningyu believed he had the upper hand, unaffected by Xiao Ning’s sharp tone. Controlling emotions isn’t easy, as Wu Ningyu clearly lacked that skill.
“Did you review the requirements clearly? Then why send older drafts?”
“Old drafts? Am I mistaken?”
