Chapter 156

Chapter 156: The Expensive Gift from Jiang Kekai

Xia Hong and Wang Wenjuan discussed for so long that even after Xia Yu and Xia Ling were done with their baths, the conversation was still inconclusive and rather vague.

In short, whatever Xia Yu liked, her parents respected her wishes. Whether she wanted to wear boy’s clothes or girl’s clothes, or if she wanted to keep her hair long, it was all up to Xia Yu. For this, Wang Wenjuan had a lot of confidence because she knew Xia Yu loved her long hair and wouldn’t cut it anyway.

So, as she stepped out of the room, Wang Wenjuan casually grabbed her nightgown, ready for a shower.

Upon returning to the living room with Xia Hong, sure enough, Xia Yu was sitting on a big sofa playing with her new phone, while Xia Ling cuddled close beside her brother.

Of course, they were just cuddling; nothing too crazy. With Jiang Kekai away, Jiang Kekai couldn’t ruin the moment, so Xia Ling figured she should make good use of the time. Xia Hong walked over, took a seat next to Xia Yu and said, “Hey, Xia Yu, we need to talk.”

Xia Yu, who had been glued to her phone, looked up at her father, curious about what he had to say.

Not just Xia Yu, but Xia Ling and Xia Yue were also looking eagerly at their father, wondering what he had to discuss with Xia Yu.

But unlike his curious children, Xia Hong remained unfazed. “It’s really no big deal, Xia Yu. I just wanted to know how you’d feel about getting your haircut tomorrow?”

“Absolutely not!”

Like his wife, Wang Wenjuan, Xia Ling strongly objected too; she wouldn’t want her sister to lose her beautiful long hair.

But Xia Hong was talking to Xia Yu and not Xia Ling, making the latter’s opinion moot. Waiting expectantly, Xia Hong looked at Xia Yu, waiting for an answer.

Xia Yue felt mixed emotions over this. He didn’t like Xia Yu cutting her hair, though he wasn’t sure why. Maybe he found the long-haired Xia Yu more attractive. Too bad Xia Yu no longer deferred to Xia Yue’s ideas anymore.

After some hesitation, Xia Yu shook her head, rejecting her dad’s suggestion. It was clear she didn’t want to cut her hair.

Much like Wang Wenjuan thought, Xia Yu was probably feeling more feminine after the recent events. Thus, Xia Yu, being naturally vain, was hesitant to get rid of her precious long locks.

To which Xia Hong was surprised, “Are you sure, Xia Yu? Didn’t you want to get a haircut last New Year?”

“That was then, I don’t want to now.”

Xia Yu replied curtly.

“Alright, suit yourself, sweetie. Whatever makes you happy.”

Xia Hong could only sigh in resignation and give up. Otherwise, how could a parent force a child into such things?

That’s when Xia Hong started regretting not taking Xia Yu to get a haircut during the New Year. If he had, maybe this wouldn’t have happened.

Meanwhile, Xia Ling let out a relieved sigh. She was glad things were back on track.

At that moment, there came a knocking sound at the door. Curious, Xia Hong got up to open it, not expecting any visitors late at night.

What he saw though, was four Jiang family bodyguards, each holding a box.

“Hello, Mr. Xia. This is a package from our young miss for Miss Xia Yu.”

The bodyguards knew Xia Yu well enough—she and the young miss Jiang Kekai had a close relationship. Hence, they spoke politely to Xia Hong. Who knows what trouble they could be in if Xia Yu reported to Jiang Kekai and got them into hot water.

“Hmm… Oh. Please come in,” Xia Hong said quickly, stepping aside to let the bodyguards bring in the boxes.

Ignoring that one slip, where he called Xia Yu a Miss, Xia Hong believed that Jiang Kekai must have asked them to do that. After all, Jiang Kekai always made him wear girls’ clothes—surely, this was a joke.

Xia Hong assumed Jiang Kekai only had friendly or playful interests in Xia Yu. So he didn’t expect Xia Yu to chase Jiang Kekai, especially considering Jiang Kekai might not be easy to maintain.

Xia Hong followed, curious about Jiang Kekai’s gift. Seeing Xia Yu in the living room, the bodyguards placed the boxes in a visible spot.

The lead bodyguard approached Xia Yu, addressing her respectfully, “Miss Xia Yu, these items are gifts from our young miss.”

“Is Sister Xiao Ning doing okay?”

Even though Xia Yu and Jiang Kekai communicated via QQ, Jiang Kekai had assured everything was fine, Xia Yu still couldn’t quite believe it.

“She’s good. She’s just grounded by the family head and can’t come out.”

“Thank you for bringing these.” Xia Yu thanked them.

“No problem.”

The bodyguards left without hesitation.

Despite the gifts not being for herself, Xia Ling couldn’t help feeling eager to open the boxes. Xia Yue and Xia Hong shared this curiosity.

However, since these were gifts for Xia Yu, she should handle opening the boxes. So Xia Ling eagerly found a small kn*fe to help her sister.

First box: a collection of fancy clothes—men’s and women’s attire.

Second box: shoes, various styles, also designer.

Third box: snacks, imported brands, in English that nobody understood except maybe Xia Yu and Xia Ling.

Fourth box: a teddy bear, big and fluffy, with a distinctly English name. It was something Xia Yu had seen before in Jiang Kekai’s room.

The most important thing about the teddy bear was the scent of Sister Xiao Ning. Xia Yu remembered the teddy bear was something dear to Jiang Kekai, as Jiang Kekai had cherished it since childhood.

Fifth box: miscellaneous items, including skincare products and calcium supplements. There were even sanitary napkins at the bottom! Xia Yu held a mysterious-looking black box she couldn’t identify, already opened. Inside were two contracts, a certificate, a credit card, and a new phone.

Jiang Kekai wanted Xia Yu to be her secretary properly. She needed paperwork completed, including a contract, although it wouldn’t affect Xia Yu.

The certificate? An urgent secretary pass prepared by Jiang Kekai. A bank card? Also, under Xia Yu’s name, made possible with the Jiang family’s resources.

And of course, there was a new phone. As Xia Yu’s secretary, how could Xia Yu use an old phone? What if confidentiality was compromised?

In summary, Jiang Kekai’s affection for Xia Yu needed no explanation. If needed, Jiang Kekai could come up with plenty.

Smart Xia Yu might realize Jiang Kekai was strengthening their bond, making her forgetful of anything but Jiang Kekai.

Just then, Xia Yingjuan came out of the bathroom.

Seeing the numerous large boxes, Xia Yingjuan felt curious enough to ask. Then she gasped at the skincare products.

Wang Wenjuan recognized these rare items and suspected they were extremely expensive.

“Were these given to Xia Yu by Jiang Kekai?”

“It seems so.”

“Too expensive, let’s return them.”

Wang Wenjuan firmly decided, as the value of these things was staggering.

“I don’t even know what these are.”

Xia Ling, confused yet intrigued, couldn’t understand the items’ names.

At that exact moment, Xia Yu’s phone rang. It was Jiang Kekai calling.
