Chapter 157: Little Fool
When Xia Yu saw that it was Little Ning calling, he didn’t hesitate much and answered the call. But before Xia Yu could even say anything, the other end of the line burst out with a cheerful voice from Jiang Kekai. “Little Yu, did you get the gift I sent you? Open it to see if you like it!”
Turns out, after the bodyguards had finished their task and reported back to Jiang Kekai, she couldn’t wait to call Xia Yu immediately. “Yeah, but Little Ning, what are those few blue things? Mom said to return them to you; can you send me the address?”
“No way. Those are gifts for you, Xia Yu! You absolutely shouldn’t return them. That would be a great disrespect.”
Hearing this, Xia Yu looked awkwardly at his mother. The awkwardness wasn’t from him wanting to return the gifts, but because Jiang Kekai refused any notion of returning them.
Wang Wenjuan had been right next to Xia Yu during the whole time, so when Xia Yu was on the call, she had overheard Jiang Kekai’s side too. Seeing Xia Yu look at her worriedly, Wang Wenjuan sighed and reached out, saying, “Let me handle this with her.”
And thus, Xia Yu’s phone ended up in Wang Wenjuan’s hands.
“Little Ning, consider these gifts…”
Saying that, Wang Wenjuan took steps toward the balcony, not wanting to let Xia Yu’s family hear her conversation with Jiang Kekai. With mother not allowing overhearing, Xia Yu started opening the last box.
The last box wasn’t as big as the earlier ones and was also lighter, filled with lots of foam inside.
Sure enough, as Xia Yu successfully opened the box, they all realized it was packed with foam. Moving away the foam, they finally saw the laptop nestled inside…
Looking back at these gifts from Jiang Kekai, Xia Yu felt slightly annoyed, not because he didn’t like them but because there were just too many.
For example, the clothes and shoes—she’d need ages to arrange them.
But having received them, she decided to tough it out. So Xia Yu and Xia Ling began moving everything back to their room, and for those branded items, well, they really didn’t know anything about such stuff. Sure, in Xia Yu and Xia Ling’s view, clothes were just clothes and shoes were just shoes—they were fine with whatever worked.
These weren’t for anyone else but Xia Yu. Naturally, Xia Ling wouldn’t have the nerve to claim them, although she might indulge in some snacks she hadn’t tried.
Click.
Click, click.
Xia Le, sitting on the sofa, snapped three photos and sent them to Lin Shao, informing him that these were all from Jiang Kekai.
He did this because Lin Shao instructed him to photograph Xia Yu and Xia Ling’s lifestyle details and mention who they interact with. Initially, Xia Le was suspicious—hadn’t they agreed to just take pictures around the house? Now, suddenly, the scope included Xia Yu and Xia Ling?
But Lin Shao assured him it was mere curiosity and Xia Yu and Xia Ling weren’t significant people, so taking pictures shouldn’t matter anyway.
Moreover, the price per photo jumped from one hundred to three hundred bucks. Xia Le convinced himself that since he hadn’t faced any trouble these past days, taking more pictures should be okay too.
Meanwhile, in Pengcheng Thousand Blossoms KYT:
“Hey, the little fool sent some more photos.”
Lin Jie thought Xia Le had once again taken meaningless snaps. But to gather more information, he insisted Xia Le continue snapping and kept paying him. And it paid off—Xia Le provided crucial information, including details on the Jiang Family’s Young Lady, Jiang Kekai.
All of Lin Jie’s friends gathered around, curious why he was so delighted. “Look, I told you Jiang Kekai is close with the cross-dressing master. They sent so many gifts—his own clothes included. The cross-dressing master must be key to dealing with Jiang Kekai.”
Listening, his friends found the reasoning valid.
“But the three photos sent now are from a fixed angle on a sofa, and some box contents remain unseen,” urged one friend.
Even without reminders, Lin Jie would’ve felt the same.
Lin Shao to Xia Le: “More photos are needed. Get closer, snap clearly—I’ll pay five hundred per photo.”
Seeing the message, Xia Le felt a surge of excitement. “I’m rich, got rich!”
Jumping up from the sofa, he snatched his new phone, slipped it in his pocket, and headed back to where he took a shot at each item.
Seeing Mom talking to Jiang Kekai on the balcony and Dad eavesdropping outside, Xia Le braced himself, photographed each box, and snapped away.
Of course, his actions did not escape Xia Yu and Xia Ling’s notice.
Xia Yu didn’t give it much thought, but Xia Ling felt something sinister brewing, suspecting Xia Yu was up to no good.
“Why are you taking photos? What’s the point?” she confronted.
If Xia Yu discovered Xia Ling knew and ratted out her earnings to their parents, the consequences would be dire.
Panicking, Xia Le quickly made a fib: “Just wanted to post on Penguin Space. Not shooting you, so stop freaking out.”
“But these are my stuff. Why post on your space? Are you trying to make your classmates think you’re some sort of cross-dressing guru?”
Pointing at the shoes and clothes still lying around, Xia Ling questioned Xia Yu’s motives.
“Well, so what if I do?”
Seeming to recall something, Xia Le added, “Speaking of cross-dressing, Little Yu is the real deal, right? Great, now Little Yu gets dragged into it.”
Though Xia Yu disliked being a “cross-dressing master,” she kept her cool.
“Yes, so what if Xia Yu is a cross-dressing master? Calling her my sister, then do you want me to call you my older sister, or would you like an operation as well?”
Xia Ling pressed on, unwilling to reveal Xia Yu’s secret situation.
“Fine, I won’t take them anymore. A gentleman won’t fuss with a lady.”
Realizing he couldn’t win, Xia Le backed down, fearing Xia Ling might expose his secrets.
Fortunately, Xia Ling didn’t push further, helping Xia Yu move boxes instead.
Back to his room, Xia Le rapidly messaged Lin Shao all he’d captured, stashed his new phone, and returned to the couch casually, looking flawless.
BEEP-BEEP.
As Lin Jie and his buddies checked Xia Le’s snaps, their smiles grew wider. “Wow, this guy got herself a job as Jiang’s personal assistant. Impressive!”
Upon seeing Xia Yu’s secretary certification and contracts, Guo Yonggang exclaimed, a hint of envy in his voice.
After all, under Lin Jie’s influence, everyone assumed Xia Yu was just a guy, yet now a guy like Xia Yu became so significant to Jiang Kekai.
This also highlighted how crucial Xia Yu had become.
Smart Lin Jie immediately thought of plans: One, sneakily kidnap Xia Yu; two, recruit Xia Yu, making her an asset.
Though, Xia Yu and Xia Hong didn’t care much for money and Xia Yu had unpredictable mental states.
Still, recruiting seemed promising.
So Lin Jie decided, “Time to try tempting this nutjob, hoping she behaves as sweetly as the little fool.”
“Good idea, boss!”
With that, Lin Jie searched Xia Yu’s Penguin Space account and added it.
Concurrently, after seeing the link to Xia Yu’s account, Jiang Kekai changed to Xia Yu’s account and clicked agree with a mysterious smile.
