### Chapter 71: Enough
“What?”
Night Lan opened her sleepy eyes to find herself being hugged.
A closer look revealed it was the familiar figure with long, milky-white hair.
“Blank Songstress…? Good morning~”
Upon hearing Night Lan’s dazed greeting, Blank’s cherry lips curved into a relieved smile.
“I’m so glad…you still remember!”
“What happened?”
Noticing something off about Blank’s current state, Night Lan snapped to attention.
Blank hesitated before speaking.
“Mr. Mo Tu forgot about me again. I’m not sure about the others…”
“Huh?”
Night Lan instantly perked up.
Blank let go of Night Lan and sat on the bed, looking lost and desperate for help.
Night Lan fell into deep thought, quickly concluding this must be due to Extraordinary Star’s influence.
Thinking this, Night Lan took Blank’s hand, leading her towards the living room.
Arriving at the living room, they found no one there.
Without delay, Night Lan called everyone else over.
Soon, Xiao Jin, Bai Yuan, Wang Chao, and Mo Tu were all present.
Wang Chao yawned lazily, clearly not well-rested.
“Hey, what’s the deal with calling us here? If you’re just wasting time chatting, can I please get back to sleep?”
Mo Tu didn’t say anything but stared intently at Night Lan’s side, looking contemplative.
Night Lan asked earnestly, “Do you recall why I came back from the future?”
Xiao Jin immediately replied, “Of course, you came here to carry out an important mission—to…”
He abruptly stopped, going into deep thought.
“For what?”
Both Wang Chao and Bai Yuan sensed something odd.
“This isn’t right.”
Their expressions turned serious as well.
Mo Tu continued focusing on the person by Night Lan’s side, ignoring the force that tried to make him ignore her. He was constantly refreshing his memories with the help of his Extraordinary Star power.
It wasn’t easy, but he wasn’t willing to drop the ball at such a crucial moment.
“You wanted to focus on us, then?” Mo Tu calmly pointed out.
Night Lan looked at Mo Tu and nodded emphatically.
“Yeah!”
“My mind has a huge gap, like it’s been wiped clean. It’s clear I’ve missed something. Now it looks like everybody else is even more screwed up, losing track of people altogether.”
Mo Tu benefited from his Extraordinary Star powers, which allowed him to pay attention to things others couldn’t, even if it had limits.
But he knew soon the erasure force would overpower his capabilities. When that happened, he’d have to rely solely on his instincts.
Night Lan looked at the clueless Xiao Jin and others, recounting Blank Songstress’ situation once more to ensure everyone got the memo.
This meant they had to start fresh—but would it get worse tomorrow?
If Blank became like Songstress, the world would forget all about Blank Songstress, and nothing would change.
No way could Night Lan sit around waiting!
Upon hearing Night Lan’s words, Xiao Jin and crew were left speechless.
They hadn’t expected someone slowly turning into a Star Eclipsing existence, and daily forgetting would make it impossible to stop.
That realization made the atmosphere in the room heavy.
Blank stood quietly next to Night Lan, her emotions settled.
Panicking wouldn’t change a thing. Maybe trying something different might cheer them up.
Besides, wasn’t Night Lan the only one who still remembered her?
“Even if we can’t change it, as long as Night Lan remembers me, my existence won’t disappear.”
Inside the living room, Xiao Jin and his friends began to reassess their strategy, reaching out to national experts.
Soon, several floating screens filled the room, each displaying researchers focused on star eclipse studies.
Xiao Jin reported the situation, causing an immediate uproar.
Night Lan watched, feeling excluded from the action.
At her side, Blank whispered, “Hey, Night Lan, how about we go out for a walk?”
“Now? Really?”
“Yeah. We promised to travel all over the place, but now this has happened. It’s really annoying.”
“But they seem to be discussing something important.”
“They won’t fix it anytime soon, right? I want to relax and hang out with you.”
“Okay.”
Night Lan sensed a “broken plan, who cares” vibe from Blank, seemingly resigned to the current situation.
Yes, that’s it. Blank felt a sense of ease.
Night Lan could feel that clearly.
So Night Lan and Blank left the living room, leaving only Mo Tu to notice their departure.
“Ah… it’s getting interesting.”
Mo Tu redirected his attention to gather information from the researchers.
Walking into the city under these conditions made everything feel less than ideal. But maybe this showed his importance after all.
…
Night Lan and Blank went outside.
The sun had risen, and citizens had begun their day. Despite walking among bustling crowds without any disguise, nobody noticed Blank.
To her, this was an oddly familiar yet strange experience.
Since becoming Blank Songstress, she was often noticeable, drawing fans whenever she appeared. But now, she slipped under the radar.
She was practically invisible, much like when her presence sense was low as a kid.
It brought her back to square one.
“Blank?”
Blank smiled politely. “Is there something you need?”
“Where should we go next?”
“How about karaoke? I can teach you to sing!”
“Huh? Teach me to sing?”
“Yeah, I believe Night Lan’s voice must be beautiful too. Can I listen? Please?”
“Um…the future you said something similar too.”
“Really?”
“Yeah.”
“If that’s the case, I’m even more curious. Let’s go to karaoke now. And if you prove to have what it takes, perhaps you can inherit my position and become a world songstress, wouldn’t that be nice?”
“What? This is unexpected.”
Blank was enthusiastic. She added, “Then I’ll be your manager, and you can perform my songs in front of many audiences. That’s a pretty sweet outcome.”
With this, Blank accepted the idea of fading into obscurity if Night Lan could remember her.
Because Night Lan was the one last person who remembered her. As long as Night Lan was around to hear her, everything would be fine.
Upon hearing this, Night Lan hesitated.
Make her a songstress?
She was better off dreaming. Performing in front of a crowd rather than performing on a stage could k*ll her spirit.
Even if she starved, jumped, or died, she wouldn’t stand on a stage.
But singing with Blank in karaoke was doable.
“Let’s not waste time, we’ll head out straight away!”
“Yeah.”
Blank held Night Lan’s hand, her spirits lifted as they walked to the nearby karaoke.
They pushed aside thoughts of star eclipses, vanishing existence, and the blank songstress, deciding that life ought to be enjoyed free of such heavy burdens.
In the karaoke room,
Night Lan opened a VIP room as Night Watcher. They spent time inside, studying something together.
Blank handed Night Lan a microphone, her smile warm and encouraging. “Go on, let me hear Night Lan’s voice.”
“Uh…”
Night Lan took it awkwardly, a bit nervous.
“If I’m bad, promise you won’t laugh.”
“Don’t worry, I won’t laugh at anyone’s singing. Go ahead.”
Blank’s eyes held encouragement and kindness.
Taking a breath, Night Lan opened her mouth to sing.
No music, since the song couldn’t be found online, so pure singing it was.
Blank froze upon hearing the lyrics.
“Ah… snowflakes in the star-filled sky, you and I staring up together…”
Blank recognized the song, her own “Don’t Forget Me.”
Realizing this, Blank focused fully on the performance.
When Night Lan finished, Blank’s eyes remained closed, showing she was truly focused.
Night Lan set down the microphone, looking nervously at Blank.
“Well… how was it?”
Blank opened her eyes with a radiant smile.
“I really like it. You have a unique sound. Even if you aren’t a songstress, you’re someone special.”
Night Lan exhaled.
“I guess, not cut out for that role.”
“That’s unfortunate,” Blank joked.
Though Night Lan wasn’t as technically proficient as a professional, her emotional delivery was enough to make an impression.
Even the challenging “Don’t Forget Me” resonated differently in Night Lan’s version—she expressed a “I’ll always remember you” kind of resolve.
She genuinely liked it…so much.
What could be done?
If Night Lan also forgot her someday, Blank would be devastated.
Being remembered made everything beautiful, especially by someone like Night Lan.
She was like an angel sent to save her.
“Ha ha~”
Watching Night Lan fiddling with the selection panel, Blank couldn’t help but giggle.
This was actually quite nice.
Turning around, Night Lan asked Blank, “Got any requests?”
“Anything goes. Choose whatever you like.”
“Hmm…you?”
“I’ve heard lots of songs from other songstresses too. No sweat.”
“Alright.”
The rest of the night passed with them singing until noon, taking turns with duets, solos, and even harmonies.
Night Lan was incredibly happy, despite straining her throat a bit.
But Blank didn’t seem to tire, only getting more energized—like a true professional.
After Blank thoroughly enjoyed herself, they both departed there.
The next phase involved unrestrained fun—eating, drinking, and playing games.
They visited arcades, street food stalls, amusement parks, and cinemas.
As dusk approached, they realized the day had ended.
“So, where to next?”
Night Lan held a tasty cup of milk tea.
“Let’s go see the scenery,” Blank suggested.
“Scenery? Where?”
“The sky.”
Soon, Blank and Night Lan found themselves aboard a flying airship, surveying the city below with the sunset in sight.
Night Lan marveled at the view, eyes sparkling.
“Oh wow…”
It was her first time seeing such a breathtaking scene from above.
Blank, however, was more subdued, not as excited.
She’d seen this countless times before.
Being a world songstress meant traveling extensively, finding inspiration in numerous locales. The cityscape from above, impressive as it was for most, meant little to her.
But now, she simply wanted to revel in the city she recently had performed in.
Yet, the city had long forgotten her, as its world songstress.
Suddenly, she spoke up. “Night Lan, if one day I forget you, will you hate me?”
“Huh?”
Night Lan looked up at her, puzzled by her concern.
“Didn’t you say your future self would forget everything, including yourself? There’s a chance you’d forget me. I’m scared—scared that I’ll forget you, someone precious, if I lose control over stars one day. So, if that happens, I hope you won’t hate me, okay?”
Night Lan caught her breath, her mood sinking.
After a day of fun, she almost had forgotten Blank’s predicament.
“I could never hate you. You’re my favorite songstress. Even if you forget me, I’ll find ways to remind you. And if I can’t, I’ll still get to know you anew.”
“That’s amazing~ thank you, Night Lan.”
“You’re welcome…”
The sun began setting.
As they returned to the Night Watcher Base, Night Lan sensed Blank’s presence fading.
On the way, they met Xiao Jin and company.
Seeing Night Lan, Xiao Jin warmly asked, “What did you do today, so late?”
Wang Chao grinned wickedly. “She probably spent all day having fun. It’s obvious.”
Bai Yuan gently ruffled nearby White Paint’s hair, smiling softly. “White Paint intended to shop with you today but couldn’t find you. Seems like we’ll have to wait till tomorrow.”
“Ah…?”
Night Lan paused, unsure how to respond.
She noticed they didn’t seem to notice Blank or the important things.
Hesitating to speak, she felt Blank press a reassuring hand on her shoulder.
“Hey?”
Blank shook her head with a resigned smile. “Enough is enough.”
