Chapter 178: The Little Fool
When Xia Le followed the Four Rascals of Peng City out and returned, the four girls had already refreshed themselves to a fragrant state and were sitting on the big living room sofa playing with their phones or laptops. It was extremely comfortable.
Especially for Xia Yu, she originally didn’t want to wear a nightgown, but oh boy, there were pajamas and pajama pants in the clothes Jiang Kekai gave her. Thus, now Xia Yu was wearing Jiang Kekai’s pajamas and pajama pants; they looked quite fancy, with soft and comfortable fabrics in a pretty pink-white color.
Xia Le wanted to tell Xia Yu about the things Lin Jie had asked him to do, but once he saw that Jiang Kekai and Jiang Hanhang were also present, he got a bit nervous. Yep, Xia Le’s intuition told him that if he actually said those words in front of them, Jiang Kekai might very well sh**t him. So, Xia Le silently returned to his room, went to the bathroom, and started washing, acting as if his own brother and sister didn’t recognize him.
At this moment, Jiang Kekai, being the first to speak, said seriously, “Little Yu, Little Ling, I’m reminding you, this isn’t a joke—start distancing yourselves from your older brother.”
“Why?”
Xia Ling, although she felt she had some idea of the answer, still couldn’t help but ask, hoping to confirm her suspicions with Jiang Kekai’s response.
As expected, Jiang Kekai replied, “He’s now aligned with Lin Jie; I reckon Lin Jie will use him to take revenge on you both.” “Why would Lin Jie want to take revenge on me and my sister? And we don’t seem to have done anything to him. It’s so absurd.”
Hearing this, Jiang Kekai’s face turned somewhat embarrassed, “Actually, it started with the Lin family targeting me. Then you, Xia Yu, were just caught up in it.”
As she spoke, Jiang Kekai habitually wrapped an arm around Xia Yu’s neck, pulling her closer to herself, “Then he tried to use you against me, but I ended up trapping him with a hefty loss. So, now I guess he might even hate you all as well.”
“How did he become so friendly with my older brother? In theory, he should be disgusted by him as well.”
“Who knows, maybe Lin Jie’s got some crazy scheme involving your older brother. Just be careful, that’s all. You can never be too safe.”
Pinching Xia Yu’s ear, seeing Xia Yu’s game being trashed by people on smurf accounts, Jiang Kekai couldn’t hold back and snatched Xia Yu’s phone away: “I’ll take care of this.”
Xia Yu:
Snatching the phone, Xia Yu didn’t bother to complain since she wasn’t in the mood. Instead, she quietly leaned onto her dear sister Little Ning as she watched Jiang Kekai play while listening to Jiang Hanhang and Xia Ling chat. Xia Yu couldn’t follow the game strategy but could see how efficiently Jiang Kekai managed the character—taking down enemies one after another. Amid the curses, Xia Yu saw the team being berated by the other side… Just as Xia Le finished showering, Xia Hong and Wang Wenjuan were arriving home with groceries for dinner.
Seeing the two Jiang family girls, Little Ning and Little Han, on the couch, Xia Hong was momentarily speechless. “How come you guys didn’t say you were dropping by? We don’t have any good dishes today, might want to go out?”
“No need, Uncle. My sister and I will probably stay here longer because we’re attending Peng City No.2 High School. So I’ll take over cooking, no need for you to go grocery shopping.”
Listening to Jiang Kekai, Xia Hong and Wang Wenjuan exchanged an uneasy glance, “Well, there aren’t extra rooms in the house…”
Jiang Kekai wasn’t oblivious—she understood Xia Hong’s reluctance.
But who cares? For the sake of staying with the adorable Xia Yu, she was content to play dumb, “It’s fine, Uncle. I’ll just sleep with Xia Yu like before. Little Ling can share a bed with Xia Ling, plus they’re classmates, and they get along great.”
Seeing their daughters still had some faint red marks, Xia Hong couldn’t help asking, “What happened to your faces?” “Mosquito bites.”
This was Xia Ling’s reply.
Jiang Hanhang remained silent, not believing Xia Hong would be so shameless as to ask her directly. Sure enough, when Jiang Hanhang didn’t respond, Xia Hong let it drop with a sigh, “Fine, leave it at that.”
Xia Hong realized what might have happened earlier, but he denied it mentally—his daughter wouldn’t act like that!
So he settled on trusting Xia Ling’s cover story.
Xia Hong put down his file and went to change clothes, the others continuing to mingle in the living room.
For Xia Le, though, he clearly didn’t want to get close to Jiang Kekai—perhaps out of fear. Hence, he chose to stay in his own room playing alone.
After finishing his bath, Xia Hong passed by and knocked on Xia Le’s door, “Come out, I have something to discuss with you and Xia Yu.”
Xia Yu was puzzled; what could Xia Hong possibly want to talk about?
Finally, Xia Le emerged. Xia Hong then looked at Xia Yu and said, “Xia Yu, let’s go to my room. I have something to say to all of us.”
Xia Yu panicked at first, fearing Xia Hong had found out something about her, but quickly calmed down after Xia Hong assured it wasn’t serious.
In the room, Xia Hong, bare-chested, closed the door to avoid the gaze of the two young ladies. Sitting cross-legged on the bed and scratching his leg, Xia Hong sized up Xia Yu and Xia Le for a few seconds.
Seeing Xia Yu’s attire, Xia Hong was at a loss for words, “A boy dressed like a girl. What’s the point?”
But Xia Hong knew it could only be due to Jiang Kekai’s influence. Thus, this time, he wasn’t here to discuss that issue.
“Since it’s just us boys, no beating around the bush. It’s just a small matter. Make sure to aim properly when you pee. Clean up with water if anything comes out accidentally.”
“Huh? So exaggerated? Schools are way smellier than homes.”
Xia Le laughed, thinking it was a joke about his new phone and laptop, but then—
Xia Hong sighed at Xia Le’s foolishness, “Enough jokes. This is serious, you know. I didn’t mind before, but now the two Jiang family girls will be here, and we can’t let them think badly of us. Standing up often leads to accidents, and I’ve already cleaned up in the bathroom earlier. Pay attention next time.”
“Oh, understood.”
Xia Le scratched his head and chuckled. Despite his name meaning “joy,” Xia Le was a naturally optimistic kid. Xia Yu, however, was confused. Without… something, how could she aim correctly?
Regardless, she nodded to please her father, though it was all lost on her.
Meanwhile, the three eavesdropping girls behind the door burst out laughing, expecting something more scandalous about Xia Yu but getting nothing.
As for Wang Wenjuan, she was still in the bathroom soaking in the tub, another reason these girls felt confident in their eavesdropping.
Right when Xia Yu and Xia Le approached the door, Xia Le thought it was an opportunity. Mimicking his dad, Xia Le asked Xia Yu, “Can I ask you to my room? I have something important to tell you.”
Xia Yu immediately recalled Jiang Kekai’s warning to stay away from her brother.
However, given no immediate threat at home, Xia Yu agreed with a nod and followed Xia Yu to a room, locking the door.
Jiang Kekai, waiting for Xia Yu, was surprised to see her leave.
Muttering under her breath, “This little fool,” she rose again, plotting her next move…
