Chapter 183

### Chapter 183: Good Bros

Xia Yu narrowly escaped, but Gao Xiaotian didn’t have such luck. The poor guy hadn’t memorized a single word to write…

The two girls nearby didn’t do much better. They managed to write about a fifth of the words, though some were right and others were wrong. In the end, it was still okay compared to Gao Xiaotian, who couldn’t write any at all.

Seeing this pitiful situation, even the English teacher wasn’t pleased. She had already suspected that the students sitting at the back weren’t great scholars, but actually witnessing their terrible results made her even more frustrated: “I thought you all were something special. Just this level of ability? You girls can copy that chapter three times each, and the boys five times. I’ll come by tomorrow to collect them.”

Gao Xiaotian didn’t dare to argue. He knew the gap between him and those girls, if only he had written a few correctly, he wouldn’t be in this mess.

But there were no “ifs.” He had to accept his fate and return to his seat, sulking terribly.

From then on, Gao Xiaotian didn’t bother talking to Xia Yu anymore. Instead, he pulled out his English notebook to start copying vocabulary, lest his mood sour even more when he went home.

As for the other two girls, they too resigned themselves to the task of copying words, grimacing as they did so.

With nobody bothering Xia Yu, she grabbed the big book Jiang Hanhang had given her to read, eager to find a quick solution to improve her English.

As for these English lessons, Xia Yu and Xia Ling’s rural school really didn’t teach them. So, it was no surprise that Xia Yu couldn’t understand a word. She could only hope to start learning properly in middle school.

And with that, Xia Yu managed to make it through until today’s afternoon classes ended. She then headed home with Xia Ling, Jiang Hanhang, and Jiang Kekai. Xia Yu led a quiet, stable life, returning straight home from school like a perfect student and steering clear of trouble.

However, Xia Le had a different story. As soon as class ended, he joined the “Four Pioneers of Peng City” and their underlings to head off to the arcade for some fun. That’s why he always came home so late.

Like before, Xia Le wanted to gather with Lin Jie and the others again to play in the arcade and later pig out on some junk food. While walking, Lin Jie noticed several tough-looking individuals following them; some were tall, sporting tattoos on their arms — the sort you’d expect from a fighter.

Despite this, Lin Jie remained calm, turning to his friends and saying, “Let’s change our plans. We’ll go to Qingfeng Bar instead.”

“Why?” one of his companions asked, curious and somewhat excited since he had never been to a bar before.

“Just do or don’t do. Don’t ask too many questions.”

That was Guo Yonggang speaking. Known as one of the “Four Pioneers of Peng City,” along with Lin Jie, they all trusted his judgment.

One of the underlings felt a bit unhappy but didn’t voice his concerns. After all, he was here to see the world, not to run away.

So, Lin Jie guided everyone around, leading them straight to the nearest bar, Qingfeng Bar. Underage entrance wasn’t allowed, yet the security captain, seeing that it was Lin Jie at the forefront, quickly ordered his men, “Don’t speak out. Let them in.”

Though puzzled, the other security officers nodded in understanding.

Lin Jie approached the entrance, giving a casual glance to the guard and his colleagues, then walked in without skipping a beat. Other members of the “Four Pioneers of Peng City” were quite cool about it, having visited plenty of times already.

Xia Le, however, was not cool at all. This was his first time in such a flashy place, and his curiosity was palpable.

But Lin Jie had no time to notice. He kept walking until he found a comfy sofa to sit on, legs crossed confidently, facing the entrance.

“Hey Jie, what are we doing here?”

Xia Le finally couldn’t hold back his curiosity. Lin Jie seemed enigmatic, possibly waiting for someone or something.

Lin Jie didn’t respond immediately. He waited about five seconds, then stared sternly at the entrance and declared, “They’re here.”

Sure enough, the security guards couldn’t stop a group of people, likely the ones following Lin Jie, who barged in, surrounding Lin Jie and his companions. There were about twenty of them, all grown men.

Realizing they’d stumbled upon a conflict, Xia Le’s underlings started feeling uneasy, thinking of retreat.

While they respected the “Four Pioneers of Peng City” due to their reputation and finances, they weren’t ready to stand by them in such dangerous situations.

Suddenly, the men around them, seeing the trembling young punks, decided to act mercifully. One of them, wearing sunglasses, spoke up, “Our target is Lin Jie, Guo Yonggang, Huang Guojun, and Jiang Zhengyao. Others can leave. We won’t interfere.”

Hearing this, the underlings saw it as an escape route and left in a hurry. Even some who were still in the bar got out, not wanting to risk getting caught up in a fight.

In just half a minute, most of the unrelated folks had retreated, leaving only Xia Le as an outsider with Lin Jie and the others.

Xia Le remained, surprising Lin Jie, who asked curiously, “Why aren’t you leaving? Scared of dying?”

“No way. Brothers in need, that’s who I am.”

True, Xia Le often found Xia Yu annoying, but he prided himself on being loyal.

Seeing the numerous men armed with batons, Xia Le was naturally scared, but determined not to run.

This unexpected loyalty intrigued Lin Jie, yet he soon smiled and said, “Well, good luck then.”

Standing up, Lin Jie, alongside his comrades, Guo Yonggang, Huang Guojun, and Jiang Zhengyao, faced their attackers. Despite the dire circumstances, they wore grins instead of fear.

The mid-aged man who’d spoken moments ago admired Xia Le’s bravery but also issued orders: “Alright, let’s take them down.”

The other men rushed over with their weapons, attacking both Xia Le and the “Four Pioneers.”

Without hesitation, Lin Jie grabbed a bottle, throwing it at one attacker, then started jabbing the broken bottle at another.

Unfortunately, they were outnumbered. A swing of a baton shattered Lin Jie’s bottle, showing clearly that they needed real weaponry.

Xia Le, though fighting seriously, couldn’t match the adult men. He was easily hit a few times and knocked aside.

During the commotion, a group in Rinka family uniforms burst through the front door and began fighting off the aggressors.

“Retreat!”

Seeing they were losing, the leader gave the order to retreat, mindful that law enforcement could arrive at any moment.

Before leaving, the troublemaker called out one last threat to Lin Jie, “Stay away from Miss Jiang Hanhang. Got it?”

Jie wasn’t sure who had hired these people, but hearing their message made him think they were after the Jiang family.

Unexpectedly, he wondered how brazen they were to do this in broad daylight in Peng City.

Brushing off his dust, Lin Jie stood up tall, acting as if victory was imminent, despite losing. He walked up to Xia Yu and offered his hand to Xia Le: “Good bros.”

Xia Le was stunned, then grinned, “Brother.”

With that, Xia Le got up, supporting himself with Lin Jie’s hand, albeit wincing from where he’d been hit.

Unlike the others, the men obviously held back on Xia Yu, only giving her slight injuries that would heal soon enough.

Lin Jie, Guo Yonggang, Huang Guojun, and Jiang Zhengyao, however, had truly been hit. The men they tangled with had used real fists and weapons, so going to the hospital for a check-up seemed necessary.
