Chapter 20 Negotiation
“I’m the Audience Performer, and I’ll do my best to answer your questions.”
Xiao Jin asked as he saw this girl step forward, “How did you manage to eliminate the star eclipse contamination from them?”
“Because I can, that’s it.”
“Is this your ability?”
“You could say that.”
“Doesn’t that mean that as long as you’re around, the theater group won’t harm anyone in the future?”
“Yes.”
“How can you guarantee this?”
“I don’t need to guarantee anything; I’ll prove it with facts in the future.”
The determination in Night Star’s voice was apparent.
Wang Chao slightly raised his eyelids.
This Audience Performer had once spoken to him in the same way before.
“Are you really going to make sure that the theater group can eventually put on performances that the Night Watchers don’t reject?!”
In reality, today’s performance showed no signs of anything out of the ordinary, posing no reasons for rejection by the Night Watchers. They could easily be treated as any other organized event.
If Wang Chao were to choose someone he wouldn’t want to cut down in the theater group, it would likely be this Audience Performer.
Although she was considered a pillar for the theater group, she somehow didn’t draw much hostility.
Night Star, seeing Xiao Jin’s silence, cautiously asked, “If, and just if, our theater group goes out to perform again, could you, Night Watchers, not cause trouble?”
“If they still commit outrageous acts and harm the people, what will you choose to do?”
“Um…”
Night Star did not reply.
She couldn’t speak for the entire theater group, nor was she the leader. The true control rested in the hands of the theater group leader. It would be too impolite to voice decisions for them based on her own thoughts.
At that moment, the theater group leader said, “If such a scenario occurs within our own ranks, we will handle it internally. The existence of the Audience Performer shows us a way out, and I will not tolerate any destruction.”
The other members nodded in agreement, while the gentleman said, “As the leader said, if any of us forgets our original purpose, we will take it upon ourselves to resolve it.”
“Perhaps we could let the Audience Performer serve as our punisher in such extreme cases,” the Fraudster joked casually. “Then we’d know who’s really calling the shots.”
Night Star was utterly confused, her face filled with question marks.
Punishment?
How? This makes no sense at all!
But she kept her emotions under control, maintaining her calm demeanor.
On the Night Watcher side…
So far, they had successfully engaged with the Tragic Shadow Theater. Everything went smoothly, but the conversation yielded many details.
During this period, there were no fights; instead, they acquired a lot of information through exchanges.
Most importantly:
The Tragic Shadow Theater, which surpassed the calamities brought forth by a supernova, might no longer be considered enemies to the Night Watchers. This would reduce their burden considerably.
But it was only a speculation, with many uncertainties. None of the Night Watchers present trusted the words of the star eclipses completely.
Even if they gave verbal assurances, would they keep to their word?
Star eclipses think differently from humans. Their actions could be beyond human comprehension. Who knows what a promise might entail, when it can be broken in a blink of an eye.
While the Night Watchers are relaxed, could these star eclipses seize the opportunity to plunge the world into unprecedented chaos?
With the scale of such an eclipse organization, it might be feasible indeed.
As the Night Watchers observed silently, Night Star spoke again, “I’ll keep watch! If anyone breaks the rules, I will handle it myself!”
Knowing how the theater group leaders felt, she dared to speak boldly.
Xiao Jin narrowed his eyes.
“With what should I believe you?”
“I’m human, not a star eclipse. Can’t you give me a chance because we are of the same kind?”
“What? Human?”
All the Night Watchers were shocked by this news.
If what the Audience Performer claimed was true, it would shake their worldview to its core!
A human leading six ultra star eclipses, how is that even possible?!
Let alone regular humans, even the strongest Night Watchers cannot interact with ultra star eclipses for too long without suffering the contamination. It greatly damages their stars.
If the strongest Watchers are affected this way, how could others endure six ultra star eclipses without falling victim to contamination?
Then Xiao Jin recalled what the Audience Performer mentioned earlier.
Perhaps she can remove the contamination of star eclipses.
Could this be the reason she can naturally communicate with star eclipses?
Maybe that’s why she could join and blend into this strange theater group.
“How do you prove that you’re human?”
“Uh, I can bleed, right? You’ve never seen a star eclipse bleed, have you?”
Night Star remembered the Night Watcher common knowledge quite well.
There were no recorded instances of star eclipses bleeding, at least not in her memory.
Her statement left the Night Watchers stunned into silence.
All the Night Watchers who had experienced the previous events knew that this mysterious Audience Performer had bled under sniper fire during an attack, becoming the spark that led the Tragic Shadow Theater to go berserk.
After that, some speculated that the Audience Performer wasn’t a real star eclipse, though her star eclipse aura was real.
It was always just speculation.
Now, the Audience Performer openly admitted herself to be human, truly shocking everyone.
Xiao Jin was also stunned for a few seconds, but quickly regained his composure and asked, “Why do you still have a star eclipse aura then?”
“Uh, isn’t it obvious? My mask is from the Fraudster, my top hat from the Gentleman. And my hair tie is from the Puppet Master. Of course, all their items contain star eclipse auras. Being overshadowed by their presence isn’t abnormal, is it?”
Hearing this, several Night Watchers were about to explode with sarcasm.
What the heck is normal about it?!
Who would dare touch something with star eclipse auras?
Night Watchers themselves avoided those things due to the risk of contamination.
And this so-called human Audience Performer wore so many items with star eclipse auras. It was simply ridiculous.
It shook their worldview once more.
If she truly possessed such abilities and was a human, could she be a Star Holder?
Having stars that could coexist harmoniously with star eclipses is unheard of, even rarer than supernova star eclipses.
Xiao Jin was shaken yet again, but he still couldn’t bring himself to trust her.
After all, she was a stranger with unknown identity.
How could Night Watchers trust someone whose background was shady?
Decisively, Xiao Jin told the Audience Performer, “You join the Night Watchers, taking control of the Tragic Shadow Theater. That way, we can rest easier.”
He intended to keep the crucial Audience Performer under the Night Watchers’ watchful eye at all times.
Empowering one person with such terrifying power from the theater group was risky; you never knew what kind of mischief she could get up to.
Hence, recruitment was the standard strategy for the Night Watchers.
The Audience Performer appeared taken aback for a second, then replied, “No.”
“Why not?”
“Well…”
Night Star averted her gaze involuntarily.
Why else would she say no?
She already has another body at the Night Watcher base!
It’s not logical for two people to join the same organization together, is it?
