Chapter 196

Chapter 195: Little Yu Needs Quiet Rest

The moment Xia Hong heard that it was Xia Yu’s medical report, he instinctively tried to grab it for a look, curious about his son’s condition.

Just then, it seemed like Wang Wenjuan remembered something and, faster than Xia Hong, snatched the Dean’s medical report and concealed it behind her back.

Indeed, the Dean had said it was Xia Yu’s full-body medical report, which would surely contain evidence of her gender. Therefore, Wang Wenjuan couldn’t let her husband see it.

Seeing his wife suddenly behave so oddly, Xia Hong didn’t question it further; instead, he extended his right hand towards his wife: “Where is Xia Yu’s medical report? Let me have a look.”

“You can’t see it,” Wang Wenjuan firmly denied her husband’s request.

Xia Hong frowned, clearly starting to get angry: “Come on, at this time I must know how Xia Yu is doing.”

“If you want details, ask the doctor. Those figures are specialized, and you won’t understand them anyway,” she retorted.

Something was off, extraordinarily so. Why wouldn’t his wife show him Xia Yu’s medical report? Was Xia Yu possibly suffering from some dire illness and didn’t want him to know? Gradually, Xia Hong’s mind started to spin with wild theories. He figured this was the only reason why his wife wouldn’t show him the report. Since his wife was not giving in, and there were so many people around, he couldn’t just snatch it.

So, Xia Hong followed his wife’s suggestion and asked the Dean nearby: “Doctor, how is my child now? When will they wake up?”

Indeed, Xia Hong didn’t recognize the Dean and assumed he was Xia Yu’s physician because of the white coat.

As for the Dean, he shot a strange look at Wang Wenjuan, who rolled up Xia Yu’s medical report, before addressing Xia Hong:

“The patient suffered multiple soft tissue injuries and a moderate lung laceration requiring medication. A bit of bl**d when they cough during recovery isn’t abnormal.”

“Hmm, anything else?” Xia Hong asked next.

“Nah, other than some minor issues, your child has slight anemia and slow development—nothing serious.”

“Well, nothing serious? Nothing serious at all?”

The Dean’s glance turned odd again—he sensed the parent’s almost desperate hope their child might suffer from some major ailment. It was really baffling.

However, Xia Hong seized onto a few keywords: “Doctor, is slow development considered a disease? Does it require medication?”

Hearing the Dean say earlier Xia Yu was developing slowly, Xia Hong attributed it to feminization, making him wonder if the issue lay with being a girl rather than a boy.

At this point, Wang Wenjuan was on tenterhooks, fearing the Dean would expose Xia Yu’s secret.

Surprisingly, the Dean didn’t. Instead, he gave a straightforward explanation: “It’s not a disease. Your kid is malnourished, causing anemia and slow growth.”

Suddenly, the Dean recalled something, adding: “Your child’s health didn’t decline overnight. It’s accumulated over time. So, improving nutrition and gradual recovery are key.”

Understanding this, Xia Hong realized Xia Yu hadn’t been eating properly since her return, but he hadn’t noticed.

Despite understanding these were minor issues, what hidden reports were Wang Wenjuan hiding? Could there be parts he shouldn’t see?

This heightened his curiosity, but with his wife not cooperating, stealing wasn’t an option with so many people present.

Seeing the Dean turn, Xia Hong thought he’d seize his chance—since his wife wouldn’t give the report, perhaps he could sneak and print a copy himself.

Decisive action taken, Xia Hong headed to leave with the Dean, assuming his wife’s presence back in the room would ensure everything was fine.

Xia Hong’s scheme didn’t fool his long-time wife, Wang Wenjuan, who confronted him: “Stay here, watching the child. I need to speak with the doctor.”

“There’s nothing we can’t discuss here. There’re no outsiders…”

But he paused, realizing the four youths from Peng City were indeed outsiders.

Reluctantly, considering their years together, Xia Hong agreed: “Alright.”

And so, Wang Wenjuan left the ward with the Dean holding Xia Yu’s medical report, and once outside, she visibly relaxed, wiping her forehead.

Usually, Wang Wenjuan avoided confrontations with Xia Hong, but now risking Xia Yu’s identity exposure, she took the risk.

Now free from her husband, Wang Wenjuan’s tone became more relaxed as she questioned the Dean, “Doctor, is it possible to reprint this medical report? I need an additional copy.”

He looked at her oddly and replied, “We still have the data in our system. Come with me.”

Clearly, due to the four youth from Peng City, the Dean treated Xia Hong and Wang Wenjuan with unusual respect.

They arrived at the Dean’s office, where the Dean, refusing to go to the reception area, accessed Xia Yu’s records directly from his computer.

After verifying the records with Wang Wenjuan, she got agitated: “Change the gender to male and discard the other reports.”

The Dean understood her attempt at falsifying documents. But why?

Though simple for him, he needed clarity for legal reasons:

“Actually, isn’t that child your daughter? Why create a boy’s report?”

Seeing he would refuse without clarification, Wang Wenjuan sighed: “Everyone wanted a boy, but I had a girl. I had to…”

Unexpectedly, the Dean slammed his desk: “Nonsense! Do you realize the impact on the child’s future?”

“I do, but…”

Obviously, the Dean didn’t approve but saw no way to help.

Famed for difficult household issues, the Dean made a half-real, half-fictional report according to her demands and swapped out the original one, a perfect forgery.

Wang Wenjuan ripped the real report and threw it away, replacing it with the fake one in similar fashion. She bid the Dean farewell and returned to Xia Yu’s room.

Meanwhile, Xia Hong and Lin Jie were deeply engrossed in conversation, laughing heartily.

“So Xia Le, learn from them, okay? Don’t just play all day; ask questions when you don’t understand.”

“Got it, sir.”

Xia Le complied, albeit reluctantly.

In Xia Yu’s room, Xia Ling sat silently beside the bed, guarding Xia Yu. Outside, she yearned to tell them Xia Yu needed quiet, but feared her father’s reaction, thus remained silent.

When Wang Wenjuan re-entered with the medical report, Xia Ling dared not make a sound: “If you want to talk, do it outside. Xia Yu needs rest.”
