### Chapter 2: Don’t Look, It’ll Hurt Your Heart
“Ugh, what the heck is going on? I don’t get it, I really don’t!”
Yexing Lan stomped his foot in front of the mirror, his small, delicate feet thumping against the floor, showing just how frazzled he was.
He couldn’t calm down!
“Is this a dream? Yeah, it must be.”
He placed his hand on his face, which was so soft it could squeeze out water if someone tried. Gently applying some pressure, he winced.
“Ow, that actually hurts…”
It only took a second for him to switch from squeezing his cheek to covering his hand in pain.
Yexing Lan suddenly had teary eyes, which was super cute, totally hitting the spot with loli fans without even trying.
The pain told him something important.
That this wasn’t a dream but reality.
Once he realized this, his worldview crumbled and he sunk into a shell-shocked state.
“d*mn.”
Time trickled by.
It was long past working hours.
Showing up now would just count as tardiness anyway.
Plus, with things like this…
Nah, let’s not think about it.
“What’s going on here? Who am I, even?”
After accepting that being bummed out wasn’t fixing anything, Yexing Lan gradually snapped back to reality.
He looked over at Yinxiaololi, who was also crouching, feeling lost. Feeling some kind of connection, like she was like him.
Just as the thought crossed his mind, across from him, Xiaololi spotted him too.
“Hm?”
Yexing quickly noticed a squatting Xiaololi with black hair on the other side.
“?!”
Yexing’s mind short-circuited.
Then he directed the other Xiaololi to wave hello.
“Hi~”
The silver-haired Xiaololi waved back with a forced smile.
Seeing this, both Yexing and the Xiaololi gasped.
“AHHH!” × 2
One soul, two bodies.
Two Xiaololis, and guess who they were?
Both Yexings!
Realizing this blew his mind.
“Am I seeing double? What on earth is happening here? This is insane!”
Black-haired Yexing was overwhelmed, getting closer to inspect.
“Incredible, absolutely incredible! Two of me… thinking about it makes my head spin!”
His mood was sky-high. Maybe because he could indulge in solo entertainment or because he found it more fun.
When Yexing was alone, he felt lonely because no one to play games with.
But after logging off, he’d feel empty.
Now, having another self by his side made everything much more interesting.
Even if it was just himself.
But sharing one soul… anyone would match better!
“Ah, since we’re differentiating ourselves, why not name you?”
Black-haired Yexing paused, then had a bright idea.
“I got it, I’ll just call you Night Lan. ‘Lan’ changes to ‘Lan’, fitting for a girl.”
Silver-haired Xiaololi gave a faint smile, stating it for him.
“So I’m Night Star.”
“Yep, yep, yep, that’s right. Together we’re Night Star Lan.”
Night Lan looked excited, like a kid with a new toy.
Though having two personalities at once was strange, he quickly got used to it.
Like wearing gloves on both hands to control separate puppets.
No second personality—basically, still just himself!
Though, maybe, a bit split-personality-y.
After some excitement, Night Lan calmed down.
He glanced at the clock.
“Ugh, work hours passed. Late again.”
Night Star nodded and added, “It’s not just being late… Given my current situation, doing any work is impossible.”
Night Lan’s eyes widened, catching onto something.
“Does that mean I lost my job?”
Night Star nodded.
“It sure looks like it.”
Self-questioning fun. Kind of neurotic if only one person, but with two bodies, totally fine.
They were already used to it.
Together, they came to a decision.
“Screw it, let’s play!”
Work can go fly, gaming is way better.
Night Lan had two accounts: one for real life, school and office groups.
The other was all about anime and crazy game groups.
Now, finally two bodies, two accounts, time to see if dual gaming with one person actually works!
Took out old computers from piles.
Old models, sure, but still playable.
Quick cleanup and they were online.
“Charge ahead, ya-hoo~”
“Victory is ours.”
Playing a famous hero vs. MOBA game, they queued together, each taking a role, as if becoming two heroes themselves.
In-game, Night Star and Night Lan didn’t need to wait for warm-up—they knew when to fight, when to run, their timing spot on, teamwork flawless, crushing the enemy early on.
“Why surrender already?”
“Next round, next round.”
They played through the morning until hunger stopped them.
“Hungry.” Night Lan released the mouse.
“Uh-huh.” Night Star nodded.
“Let’s order food.”
“Two portions.”
Night Lan noticed something important.
If two bodies mean two stomachs, costs would double!
One could be full, the other still empty.
Checked wallet, barely four figures, ordering two more would drop to three.
Night Star covered both his and Night Lan’s eyes.
“Don’t look, your heart will break.”
“Guh…”
Too late, already broken.
Night Lan dropped to the ground, despondent.
“No income, these few bucks? If this keeps up, might as well live under a bridge…”
Night Star patted his head as self-comfort.
Phone beeped.
Boss messaging asking why he skipped work.
Night Lan thought and sent a resignation request. No explanations, definitely no truths.
While boss argued, he accepted and promised salary tomorrow.
“Alright, these funds should make it last awhile, must find new money soon.”
But looking at their frail, petite forms,
“What can I do now? No IDs, total no-go…”
Except for their faces, totally doll-gorgeous.
“Uh-huh.”
Both fell silent, pondering their next move.
