Chapter 203

Chapter 202: Not Dead Yet

The three of them snapped out of their shock and looked at each other, then simultaneously turned their gaze toward Xia Yu, who was still unconscious. Dressed in a hospital gown again, but this time it was the pure white special edition from the Lin family rather than the standard blue-and-white affair they usually wear at hospitals.

Not only that, Xia Yu was also hooked up to IVs and had an oxygen mask on. Next to her was a heart rate monitor, making sure she didn’t go into cardiac arrest while they were away.

The room was under special watch from the Lin family as ordered by Lin Jie and Lin Hai, so when the trio woke up, the nurses were quick to notice them.

“Wait, your left arm got plaster cast yesterday. Best not move it,” a nurse told Xia Ling.

No surprises there. She was too busy poking and prodding at her cast.

Meanwhile, Wang Wenjuan couldn’t help but ask with a hint of panic, “Where are we? What happened last night?”

“This is the Lin family’s private clinic. You were hit by the Jiang family on your way back home last night.”

That jolted Xia Le and Wang Wenjuan out of their memory fog.

Indeed, several vehicles had lined up and rammed into their ride last night, leaving no room for escape. It was Lin family all along, which made Wang Wenjuan and Xia Le despise the Jiang family even more.

Xia Ling, meanwhile, stared blankly at the ceiling. Memories of last night came flooding back: meeting Jiang Hanhang, taking a punch for her. No word from Jiang Keke either – she wondered if the girl was okay.

Just then, Lin Hai and Lin Jie arrived with messages to check on them. “Don’t worry, you’re safe here. This is our turf.”

Lin Hai spoke first, trying to improve their impression. Even though he wasn’t sure if these people would ever help him fight the Jiang family, gaining their favor was always nice. Meanwhile, Lin Jie headed straight to Xia Le’s bedside. Noticing his energy, he patted Xia Le on the shoulder and grinned, “Good luck must be with you.”

Xia Le grimaced. “Good luck? I nearly bit the dust!”

“Now you’re safe, right?”

“Guess so.”

During Xia Le and Lin Jie’s conversation, Xia Yu finally regained consciousness after sleeping for quite a long time.

Xia Yu felt everything around her was uncomfortable—especially her lungs. Before she could finish a cough—

Cough—

bl**d spewed out uncontrollably from her nose and mouth, drenching her oxygen mask red. Though she had managed to spit it out, Xia Yu felt worse. The burning sensation in her lungs and exhaustion throughout her body were unbearable. Her mind cleared up, and she vividly recalled what that guy had said before.

Lin Hai nearly jumped out of his skin. Fortunately, Xia Yu wasn’t his kid, so he quickly snapped out of it: “Get her some treatment. Hurry!”

Thus, under Lin Hai’s orders, Xia Yu was whisked away by another Lin family nurse to the ER.

Seeing the worried faces of Xia Le, Wang Wenjuan, and Xia Ling, Lin Hai reassured them, “Don’t worry, everything will be fine.”

“That’s comforting.”

Wang Wenjuan, feeling drained after the ordeal, expressed her gratitude.

She then took out her wallet, which had been left on the counter by one of the Lin family members. Wang Wenjuan handed Lin Hai a bank card. “Rin, how much do we owe for the treatment? Just charge it to this card.”

Lin Hai’s smile widened upon receiving the card: “Thank you.” He promptly tucked the card into his pocket and left.

As a businessman, avoiding losses was key. Helping Xia Wang settle his debts meant he could return the favor and get a good name, so why not?

Wang Wenjuan continued rummaging through her bag and pulled out a phone, figuring she needed to contact her husband.

Her prediction proved true. After a sleepless night of searching for his wife and kids to no avail, Xia Hong received her call.

“Where are you now? Why didn’t you answer any of my calls?”

Hearing concern mixed with anger in his voice, Wang Wenjuan bravely replied, “We were struck by the Jiang family on our way home. We’re currently at the Lin family medical facility.”

She relayed Lin Hai’s message faithfully despite some vagueness about the location, trusting Xia Hong would find his way over.

Soon enough, Xia Hong responded, “Got it. I’m heading over right now. Stay put.”

Their conversation concluded, and simultaneously, Jiang Hanhang slowly regained consciousness back at the Jiang family compound. Her first sight was Jiang Keke, slumped beside her bed and fast asleep.

Jiang Hanhang tried to rise but was met with a sharp pain, forcing her back onto the bed. Defeated, she remembered Xia Ling, who took a blow for her last night. She worried about Xia Ling’s wellbeing and wished she could call her. But every attempt was futile.

With no other choice, Jiang Hanhang called out to Jiang Keke, hoping she might share some news or help.

In a dazed state, Jiang Keke stirred awake, eyes bloodshot and visibly teary-eyed. Clearly, she had been crying heavily.

This sight startled Jiang Hanhang. Her usually composed sister never looked so vulnerable—far from the strong figure she held in her mind.

Despite the shock, Jiang Hanhang cared deeply about her sister and immediately asked, “Keke, are you okay?”

Frustrated, her sore eyes sought some comfort from Jiang Keke, but tears welled up again at the memory of the previous night. Jiang Keke forced a weak smile, “I’ll be fine.”

“Did something happen?”

From Jiang Hanhang’s tone, Jiang Keke sensed something was off, but she hesitated to speak openly.

But Jiang Keke didn’t want to think about last night’s disaster, especially since her sister brought it up. She needed to gather more information before revealing anything.

Her hesitation alarmed Jiang Hanhang. Instead of pressing further, Jiang Hanhang asked Jiang Keke for help: “Can you help me send a message to Xia Ling? She got hit for me, I’m worried.”

Though Jiang Keke was somewhat slow, she picked up her sister’s phone and dialed Xia Ling almost instinctively since it was quicker.

When Xia Ling saw the incoming call, emotion surged. Quickly grabbing her phone, she answered, “Hello?”

At the sound of Xia Ling’s voice, Jiang Hanhang and Jiang Keke perked up.

Before Xia Ling could speak, Jiang Keke blurted out anxiously, “Xiao Ling, how’s Xia Yu doing? Is she okay?”

Xia Ling was slightly taken aback by Jiang Keke’s forwardness, but relieved to hear Xia Ling’s stable tone.

Xia Ling paused momentarily and confirmed in a grave voice, “It’s not looking good. Just went into emergency again due to severe lung damage and bleeding.”

“Then… Xia Yu isn’t dead?”

“What are you implying?”

“I didn’t mean—nothing. Wait, did you say Xia Yu isn’t dead?”

Jiang Keke felt a surge of determination and made up her mind to accompany Xia Yu through thick and thin. She passed the phone to Jiang Hanhang and swiftly dialed someone else for urgent assistance.
