Chapter 21: Buying Medicine
It didn’t take long before lunchtime rolled around. Since preparing for New Year’s Eve was quite elaborate and required a lot of important dishes, Xia Yu didn’t need to lend a hand.
But when it came to eating, Xia Yu couldn’t miss out. So upon hearing her family calling for her, she hurried down to join them for the meal.
Fortunately, after lying in bed for so long, Xia Yu felt much better now. At the very least, she could pretend to walk normally without collapsing on the spot.
Still, her somewhat pale face betrayed her condition. Additionally, when it came to eating, she had barely touched her food. Her other hand involuntarily covered her uncomfortable belly.
After finishing, Xia Hong handed Xia Yu ten bucks: “Xiao Yu, you’ve been like this since yesterday. Must be diarrhea, right? Go see Uncle Shuming and get some medicine. Don’t let it affect your New Year’s.”
“Thanks Dad~”
Xia Yu took the money and actually left the house…
Shuming, whom Xia Hong referred to, was the village doctor. Whether he had a medical license meant nothing; however, the medicine he prescribed was highly praised by the villagers, suggesting he knew his stuff.
As Xia Ling watched Xia Yu leave, her heart was a mix of emotions. She knew that Xia Yu wasn’t having diarrhea but rather was on her period. If Xia Yu took the wrong medicine given her lack of knowledge, it might not end well for her.
After a minute of hesitation, Xia Ling decided to follow her sister.
A minute wasn’t long, and Xia Yu was moving slowly due to abdominal discomfort, so Xia Ling quickly caught up.
When Xia Yu noticed Xia Ling jogging up from behind, she didn’t expect Xia Ling to accompany her for medicine. She thought Xia Jing must’ve gone off somewhere for fun again.
But Xia Yu was surprised when Xia Ling stopped beside her and offered to buy the medicine together.
Looking at Xia Yu’s astonished eyes, Xia Ling blurted out first: “What’s with the face? You’re still my second brother, right? You can’t really believe I’d never speak to you after learning your secret?”
Stunned by her sister’s words, Xia Yu struggled to respond because… well, she did kinda assume that.
Seeing Xia Yu’s reaction, Xia Ling sighed and immediately changed the subject: “Second Brother, you’re not planning to actually buy diarrhea medicine, right? You don’t have diarrhea, do you?”
“What else should I buy? Dad told me to get diarrhea medicine. What else can I buy?”
Upon hearing Xia Yu’s explanation, Xia Ling held out her hand: “Money? Give it here; let me buy it for you.”
Xia Yu was happy to let someone else handle it, so as soon as Xia Ling asked, she handed over the ten bucks. She trusted Xia Ling would know what remedy to pick for her tummy troubles.

With that, Xia Yu and Xia Ling entered Doctor Shuming’s home. The couple seemed only just finished their meal; hence they were tidying up.
“Uncle Shuming, do you still have that painkiller Mom bought me last time? I need another dose.” Xia Ling pulled out the money, for a brief moment feeling like the big sister.
While Xia Yu quietly followed, hoping Xia Ling would continue the transaction so she can learn how to do it next time.
