Chapter 6: Trying to Heal
After playfully teasing Guqiu, Night Star looked around the entire theater and realized it was completely empty.
The singer’s words definitely wouldn’t fade into the shadows like the Group Leader and the others when they were at the theater.
Since she couldn’t see anyone now, they must have transformed back to the Night Watcher Base.
As for Lianhua, she might have chosen to take a selective nap.
With this thought, Night Star turned to Guqiu and asked, “Hey, Guqiu, where’s everyone else?”
“Goo, I don’t know, but the existence that performed the puppet show just vanished into the shadows,” Guqiu replied.
“Ah, that must be Lianhua. She’s probably off to take a break.”
Upon hearing this news, Night Star felt a bit awkward calling Lianhua out to play.
It would be best to let her rest for now.
…
At the Night Watcher Base.
In the afternoon, Night Lan arrived and quickly spotted Kong Yu Bai wandering around the base, so she approached to greet her.
“Hey… um, Kong Yu Bai, why are you back?”
Kong Yu Bai smiled slightly.
“Well, I can’t just stay over there forever, can I? I need to hang out at the base sometimes to maintain my presence, or else I might be outed by others.”
“True that.”
Nodding thoughtfully, Night Lan continued, “Do you know what the Grand Performance is about?”
Kong Yu Bai glanced around before using “Existence Interference” to dampen their presence, making their conversation and figures easily overlooked.
“Nope, the Group Leader didn’t inform me. Maybe I’ll find out right before it starts. Honestly, I’m curious about what the Grand Performance will be.”
“Hmm, I see. Since you don’t know, Lianhua probably doesn’t either. It seems only the Announcer and a few others are in the loop.”
“Perhaps! As long as it isn’t any singing-related content, I’m game.”
Kong Yu Bai was quite confident in her singing abilities.
As long as the Group Leader didn’t assign her anything beyond her capabilities, she could handle it.
In her mind, the Grand Performance would be similar to a major concert, and while she felt some nerves, it wouldn’t be a big deal.
I mean, she’s a top-tier songstress, after all!
Kong Yu Bai snapped back to reality and reminded Night Lan, “Night Lan, while we’re at the Night Watcher Base, let’s avoid talking too much about the theater’s stuff. Otherwise, it’ll be tough to explain if someone overhears. There are plenty of odd characters here, which is why I used ‘Existence Interference’ to set the stage for our chat.”
“Sure thing, I got it!”
And just like that, the theater topic ended.
With the power of Existence Interference fading, the two continued their adventure deeper into the base, casually browsing around.
During their stroll, Night Lan noticed there were far fewer people in the base compared to before. It seemed like batches of Night Watchers from other cities had been returning one after another.
All because their target—the Tragic Shadow Theater—had gained special permissions and was no longer a target for elimination.
This is why they had received orders to return.
As for what would happen next, that would rely on Yun Chang City’s own strength.
Suddenly, Night Lan remembered something.
“By the way, where are Xi Xia and Uni?”
If they had left the city, Night Lan wouldn’t be able to help them.
Once separated, who knows when they would meet again?
It would be such a pity to miss out on what could be a simple opportunity.
Just then, Night Lan spotted a petite, blonde figure that looked like Uni!
What a coincidence, running into her right after mentioning her!
Is this what they call “words become reality”?
But right now, it was just Uni; Xi Xia wasn’t by her side.
Without a second thought, Night Lan dashed over.
“Uni!”
The blonde figure turned, realizing it was the cute Night Lan.
“Night Lan, good afternoon!”
“Yep, to you too! Are you busy right now?”
“Nope, just taking a stroll.”
“Great! By the way, where’s Xi Xia? You two always stick together, so why are you here alone?”
Uni shook her head.
“Dunno, she’s probably off doing other things.”
Night Lan didn’t dwell on that and asked, “When are you guys leaving Yun Chang City?”
“Well, that’s mainly up to Xi Xia. I just follow her around.”
Hearing this, Night Lan felt this was a golden opportunity. She could try to use Star Eclipses’ “Life Blessing” to heal Uni. If successful, she’d earn the affection of a cute little loli!
With this in mind, Night Lan’s eyes sparkled, and she leaned closer to Uni.
“Hey, little Uni~”
“Umm, don’t call me that like I’m a little kid! Even though I look petite, I’m actually sixteen! You should call me ‘onee-chan’!”
Night Lan pondered for a moment and replied with a smile, “Do you wanna know how old I am?”
“Hmm?”
“Ah, don’t mind that! Little Uni, let me heal your ailments!”
Night Lan grabbed Uni’s shoulders with an enthusiastic expression.
Uni tried to take a step back but found herself firmly pinned in place.
The strength of this black-haired loli was surprisingly formidable!
Even though Night Lan was speaking quite loudly, which was annoying for Uni, she couldn’t help but find it strangely endearing.
Was it because Night Lan’s singing was so beautiful?
Maybe that was it.
Uni gently pushed Night Lan’s hand away and said calmly, “I appreciate your kindness, but I have to say, my condition probably can’t be healed by Star.”
“Well, let’s just give it a shot! It won’t take much time!” Night Lan insisted, still not giving up.
Just then, Kong Yu Bai approached and, having caught wind of the conversation between the two lolis, had a good understanding of what was going on.
“Uni, just let Night Lan give it a try.”
Upon hearing the songstress say this, Uni reluctantly agreed.
“Alright… if it doesn’t work, please don’t be disappointed. That’s usually the norm for me.”
Uni had long since grown accustomed to this.
She had received numerous treatments from Night Watchers before, all of which had yielded no results.
Going from hope to disappointment, she had become somewhat numb over time.
So this time, Uni didn’t harbor any hopes.
Night Lan smiled slightly.
“Why are you trying to comfort me before we even start? We won’t know unless we try!”
“Mm…”
After a bit, the three of them reached a private patient room, a place where no one would disturb them.
Uni quietly lay on the bed, curious about how Night Lan planned to heal her.
It was probably some sort of Star healing technique that would likely involve Night Lan’s very own star.
So, Night Lan’s star must be the kind with powerful healing abilities, right?
Otherwise, she wouldn’t be so confident.
But it was probably useless.
Uni knew her own condition—her frailty wasn’t a natural flaw but seemed to be caused by her star.
Her star had awakened too early, leading to a period of instability.
At that time, she hadn’t been a Night Watcher yet and almost perished at home.
Fortunately, Xi Xia had been passing by and sensed the unusual aura, discovering Uni unconscious at her house.
Thanks to Xi Xia’s help, Uni was sent to the Night Watcher Base for treatment.
Though her star had stabilized afterward, the price was her extreme fragility—she even lost sight in one eye.
To this day, she remained untreatable.
