Chapter 209: Protection
From noon yesterday until now, thanks to Xia Yu, the three girls hadn’t eaten much, so saying they weren’t hungry would be a lie. Thus, they looked at Jiang Kekai and said in perfect unison, “Anything’s fine!”
That’s right, they weren’t picky about food as long as it filled their bellies, especially since Xia Ling and Jiang Hanhang were injured and had some dietary restrictions.
With a nod, Jiang Kekai stood up to prepare something for everyone.
However, she forgot one little detail—Xia Yu was still holding her hand tightly! So when she stood up, Xia Yu’s hand came along for the ride…
Unexpectedly, Jiang Kekai found this a bit surprising. Who knew Xia Yu would cling to her this much? Her hand was like a tiny vice!
But that was fine. Once she realized, Jiang Kekai affectionately patted Xia Yu’s forehead and said with a smile, “Don’t worry, Little Yu! Sister will be right back.”
Just then, Jiang Kekai instinctively leaned down to give Xia Yu a kiss on the forehead but, remembering their mother was watching, awkwardly pulled back her head. “Alright, I’m going to get some food!”
With that, Jiang Kekai left the hospital room, and she conveniently pulled along her sister, Jiang Hanhang. Now, that left Xia Yu and the mother-daughter duo of Xia Ling and Wang Wenjuan in the room.
With no outsiders around, Wang Wenjuan felt more comfortable and took a seat beside Xia Yu, attempting to strike up a conversation. “Little Yu, what do you think of your sister Kekai? Do you really like her that much?”
Sure, Jiang Kekai and Xia Yu had always been close, but seeing things still like this even while Xia Yu was sick made Wang Wenjuan raise her eyebrows.
Her question surprised Xia Yu for a moment, but she quickly composed herself and confidently answered in her small voice, “Yeah, Sister Kekai is really nice to me. I like her a lot.”
“Oh really? How much do you like her, exactly?”
“A lot!”

It was clear that Wang Wenjuan meant it in a different way, but Xia Yu interpreted it differently, and there was nothing she could do about it.
Thus, Wang Wenjuan concluded that her daughter was a bit slow on the uptake; her emotional intelligence seemed rather low for some reason.
But then again, considering Xia Yu was only eleven years old in sixth grade, Wang Wenjuan found it less strange. After all, people grow little by little, and sometimes, ignorance is what makes them charming.
Watching Xia Yu, who was struggling to answer with a breathing machine on, Wang Wenjuan decided not to pry any further. Instead, she stayed by her side.
As for Xia Ling, she was sitting by the bedside too, but being younger, she preferred her phone. At that moment, she was playing games one-handed, trying to k*ll time.
Xia Ling was itching to play more demanding games, but with her arm in a sling, she could only manage one-handed gaming…
Possibly because Jiang Hanhang had been taken away by Jiang Kekai, and with Xia Yu unable to speak much, Xia Ling was feeling quite bored. She found herself tiring of the game quickly. Jiang Kekai filled a basin with congee and thus began the happy feeding session.
After confirming Xia Yu would be fine without the breathing machine, Jiang Kekai felt confident enough to set it aside, helping Xia Yu sit up and beginning to feed her spoonful by spoonful.
Honestly, it was an incredibly cozy and affectionate situation between Jiang Kekai and Xia Yu, making even her mother, Wang Wenjuan, uncomfortable. She chose to retreat to the adjacent room for breakfast instead.
Little did she know… in the next room, Xia Ling and Jiang Hanhang were engaging in their version of the same scenario!

Meanwhile, the four girls gobbled down their congee, blissfully unaware of Wang Wenjuan’s thoughts. After all, it had been a while since they’d eaten, and the congee was heavenly. In another part of the city, Jiang Bin, accompanied by several bodyguards, visited the Huang Family.
Who was Jiang Bin? He was the head of the Jiang Family, a big name agreed upon by many VIPs. Although Jiang Heng had yet to give his full endorsement, the consensus was that Jiang Bin was nearly there.

With a forced smile, Huang Tian welcomed, “Brother Jiang! You’re visiting without prior notice! If I had known, I’d have prepared some food and drinks to welcome you!”
“Save the food and drinks, I actually came to discuss something private with you, Huang buddy. You should have time, right?”
“Is it something that must be discussed in private? We could just chat over tea in my office. Our bodyguards are trustworthy, right?”

Thus, Huang Tian felt safer staying near the bodyguards; he couldn’t risk being alone with Jiang Bin without knowing his true intentions. Jiang Bin understood the other’s caution but didn’t mind. “Alright then.”
So, Jiang Bin and Huang Tian entered an office and sat across from each other while their bodyguards stood watch.
After some tea, Huang Tian was eager to skip the pleasantries. He straightforwardly asked, “Alright, Brother Jiang, what brings you to the Huang Family? Did my foolish son get into trouble again?”
Indeed, Huang Tian suspected Jiang Bin was here about those twenty-seven people, but since they were sent by his son, who could really have known why things had gone south with Jiang Kekai?

“I can’t say, but I’m here to warn you and your son to stay out of Jiang Family’s business, or you know the consequences for those twenty-seven.”
Was that a threat?
Even if he realized it was a warning, Huang Tian felt utterly helpless against Jiang Bin. After all, the Jiang Family’s power far surpassed that of the Huang Family.
