Chapter 216

### Chapter 215: The Feeling of Dependence

“But there must be some leftovers, right? I heard they’ve already figured out quite a lot and are now starting to look for Xia Yu, the only test subject. Who knows what they’re up to. So, you all need to be careful from now on.”

“Yeah.”

“And by the way, our Jiang family has put money into your granduncle’s experiments. If we get dragged into this mess, we’re in trouble. So, I think it’s best that we quietly handle Xia Yu before any trouble comes.”

Seeing Jiang Kekai about to lash out, Jiang Bin quickly added, “But I know your temper. So, it’s not a big deal if you hang out with Xia Yu. He should be fine around you.”

After several seconds of considering his father’s words, Jiang Kekai slowly said, “Thanks.”

Indeed, she felt that her father’s logic was sound; getting rid of Xia Yu would be safest. But Jiang Bin had given that up for her.

“Whatever, even when I was younger, I did plenty of unsavory things for this family. Now, I’m trying to make up for it. Besides, I know how much you care for that kid.”

Thus, Jiang Bin, rarely being affectionate, patted his eldest daughter’s head, then left first. This indicated their discussion was over. As they returned to Xia’s home, both hands were filled with expensive health supplements purchased by their bodyguards. The little ones—Xia Yu, Xia Ling, and Jiang Hanhang—all had just recovered from serious illnesses. So supplements were good for them.

Afterwards, Jiang Bin suggested, “Since everyone’s back, let me treat us to dinner. Prepare to go out now.” It made sense, as Jiang Bin and Zhang Yunzhi didn’t often visit their daughter, so a dinner out seemed natural.

Xia Hong had no objections. He started yelling at his son, who had been hiding in his room: “Little Le, we’re eating out tonight. Get your shoes on.”

A while later, Xia Le finally spoke from his room: “I don’t want to eat. You guys enjoy it.”

“Why not? There’s nobody else at home. Hurry up!”

Heard the frustration in his father’s voice, Xia Le gave in and put on his shoes reluctantly. Though Jiang Bin found Xia Le’s avoidance peculiar, he didn’t press further.

Ten minutes later, Xia Hong’s car carried himself, his wife, and Xia Le.

Jiang Kekai bringing Xia Yu along wasn’t surprising. But he never expected Jiang Hanhang to bring Xia Ling along with her as well, leaving him speechless.

So he just shrugged it off and made do.

Perhaps influenced by Lin Jie’s constant negativity toward the Jiangs, Xia Le braved saying to Xia Hong during the ride, “Dad, I really don’t want to go. Just drop me off somewhere.”

“Don’t joke. We don’t get to eat out that often. You got other ideas?”

Sure enough, Xia Hong’s hunch about his son’s thoughts hit the mark. Xia Le admitted, “I don’t want to eat with those Jiang people. I hate them.”

“But the misunderstandings were cleared up. The ones who beat you were from Huang’s family in the capital. Jiang Bin told me it was dealt with.”

“Still… the Jiangs are involved, and honestly, I just don’t like them.”

Finally, Xia Hong pulled over: “Fine. Eat quick, be home soon.” He handed Xia Le a chunk of cash—enough for a night out.

Obviously, if Xia Le didn’t want to go, forcing him wouldn’t work. So Xia Hong let him off the hook.

Back in Xia Le’s room, he immediately dialed Lin Jie: “Bro Jie, you down for a night out?”

A half-hour later, Jiang Bin noticed Xia Le wasn’t there. Not a surprise; he wouldn’t force an attendance issue.

Placing orders, Jiang Bin then asked, “Xiao Ling, I heard you got hurt trying to protect Hanhang. Thanks for looking out.”

Summer Ling was taken aback by Jiang Bin’s sudden interest: “It’s nothing, a month’s rest and I’ll be fine.”

“I appreciate it. If you ever face trouble, talk to Uncle Jiang. He won’t turn a blind eye.”

Meanwhile, Xia Hong and Wang Wenjuan were shocked; Ling’s hurt arms were for protecting Hanhang? Stupid, even.

Though they wanted to talk, they held back. Their daughter’s well-being was a priority.

Across the table, Jiang Kekai and Xia Yu seemed to zone out, playing a match-three game on their phones.

Jiang Kekai found the matches while Xia Yu did the swapping, forming a strange team.

Once dinner arrived, Jiang Kekai started feeding Xia Yu, who grew less shy. Jiang Kekai was okay with it, but Jiang Bin noted Ling also fed Jiang Hanhang.

Ling accepted the food without complaint, thinking maybe a little delay in her recovery would give her a moment of victory over Hanhang. She knew her family and theirs were watching, though not saying anything.

After dinner, Jiang Bin declined returning to Xia’s home directly, instead heading back to their Jiang residence.

Safety was priority. They weren’t staying too long; the fewer eyes on them, the better.

Xia Hong and Wang Wenjuan went home with the little ones, still with many unspoken thoughts about today’s events, deciding to chat later.

Xia Yu wasn’t thinking much. Though she slept on her sister Xiao Ning’s shoulder during the twenty-minute drive home, she was more than comfortable.
