Chapter 18: The Return of the Missing Persons
Mo Tu returned to the Night Watcher Base.
Looking at the building he hadn’t visited for a while, Mo Tu’s mood was quite peaceful.
Then he calmly walked in and followed the route to someone’s office.
Ding!
Very soon, Mo Tu got the permission to enter and walked right in.
Xiao Jin sat at his desk, looking up only to realize it was some long-missing young man.
“You actually came back?”
“Yeah.”
“I thought you’d wait until our work here was done.”
“I’m not that kind of unpleasant person, I’m still willing to take on some of the workload.”
“Hopefully so.”
Seeing Mo Tu return, Xiao Jin stopped working, stood up, and went to the tea table to brew some tea.
Seeing this, Mo Tu sat down in the chair, as if waiting for Xiao Jin to speak first.
After the tea had been brewed, Xiao Jin slowly said, “What did you do during your disappearance?”
“Nothing much, just a trivial matter.”
“Oh, really? I don’t think so.”
“Huh?” Mo Tu looked at Xiao Jin with surprise, noticing his composed expression now.
“How come?”
“That would be asking yourself, announcer of the Rising Sun Theater Group.”
Hearing these plain words, Mo Tu raised an eyebrow but did not respond.
Xiao Jin continued, “Though you’re wise beyond ordinary people, don’t underestimate the other Sunlight Night Watchers. I have some insight into this, and let me say, I know quite a bit about you.”
“Mhmm…”
“Not only did you disappear around the same time the announcer showed up, but her star eclipse effect resembles your own map-like insight to some extent. Plus, your sharpness makes it easy to see traces of you even if you hide your true nature. Don’t underestimate my intuition as the leader of Yun Chang City.”
Mo Tu scratched his chin and sighed.
“Remarkable, I knew you’d figure it out. Maybe only that Wang Chao missed it.”
Upon Mo Tu’s confirmation, Xiao Jin wasn’t overly agitated but quite calm.
“So, you didn’t want to get involved with the incidents of the Rising Sun Theater Group because of your role as the announcer? Being such a rare Sunlight Night Watcher yet part of the Star Eclipses, I can’t quite decide how I feel about you.”
“It’s fun, being with those Star Eclipses is quite interesting, especially lately.”
“Is that why you fooled around with the Night Watchers? I haven’t forgotten the Grand Performance incident where you used your Star to render all Night Watchers ineffective.”
“Well, I was the announcer back then, had responsibilities to handle.”
“Using your Star to overlook your Night Watcher duties?”
“Look, I did it for the greater good, can you understand?”
Hearing this, Xiao Jin pondered.
“Is the greater good about finding a better way to deal with the Star Eclipses of the Rising Sun Theater Group?”
“That’s right.”
To this, Xiao Jin sighed and covered his forehead.
“Anyway, there’s too much to process. I suggest you clear things up before passing them on to the leader. You should know what to do.”
“Don’t worry, since I’m exposed, I won’t hide anymore. I’ll tell everything.”
Mo Tu seemed very open about the revelation, showing no particular reaction to his secrets being exposed. Whether he would share all the details remained uncertain, depending on his mood.
Who could blame him for being just like that?
Xiao Jin took a sip of tea and continued, “Setting that aside, how did you become like that?”
“Which way?”
“The little girl look.”
“Not important?”
“A colleague turning that way, who wouldn’t be curious?”
“What, a personal question?”
“Kinda.”
“Well, I refuse to answer.”
“Seems rare, but you became a Star Eclipse, can’t tell me that?”
“That’s right, just a trick by the Fraudster, changing the concept of Stars into Star Eclipses, easy once you stop resisting.”
“Wow—using it like that?” Xiao Jin couldn’t help but gasp and think deeply.
This made the Star Eclipses in the Rising Sun Theater seem powerful despite not being great fighters, because of their strangeness.
“So, did becoming a Star Eclipse change your Star’s functions too?”
“Sort of, enhanced to various degrees. You could try, but you might get twisted if you’re not accustomed.”
“Nah, thanks.”
As they talked, they spent a lot of time chatting.
Xiao Jin held no negative feelings towards Mo Tu being an announcer for the Rising Sun Theater Group.
If anything, he felt a bit resentful.
Leaving a rare Sunlight Night Watcher to handle the mess, and putting all the burden on one person like Wang Chao, certainly wasn’t ideal.
Letting Xiao Jin manage alone was headache-inducing for sure.
“If you hadn’t come back, I’d have died at this desk for sure. Let’s leave the rest to you.”
“Just to clarify, I’m taking on half the work. Do you think keeping the Rising Sun Theater stable doesn’t require effort?”
“Fair enough.”
The atmosphere soon turned silent.
All the tea was gone, consumed by Xiao Jin.
Mo Tu hadn’t touched his, anyway he dislikes tea.
Suddenly, Xiao Jin spoke, “Mo Tu, one more thing. What’s Night Lan’s relationship with the Rising Sun Theater Group?”
“Why this sudden question?”
“I think there’s something big she’s hiding from me, and some force is preventing me from thinking further. It’s weird.”
“This is something you shouldn’t ask me, and I can’t answer you either.”
“You did know something.”
“After all, I like gathering information. That gives me a better edge.”
Standing up, Mo Tu prepared to leave.
“I’m off. Think through any remaining questions yourself. Regardless, Night Lan’s situation won’t affect the bigger picture. Even if you guess correctly, treat it as nothing. You’ve told me to let her grow slowly, right?”
“Mhmm… the Extraordinary Star becomes unstable when grown too far.”
“Stick to what I said then. At least, Night Lan is a good kid and won’t disrupt order.”
“I get it.”
With these words, Mo Tu turned and left, leaving Xiao Jin deep in thought.
A moment later, he sighed.
“Quite complex…”

Mo Tu walked out easily from his office and soon ran into another Sunlight Night Watcher in the base.
“d*mn! Mo Tu, when did you get back? Where have you been?”
“Y-you…”
Mo Tu stared deeply into Wang Chao’s shocked face for a while, patting his shoulder.
“Not knowing is pretty neat.”
“What did you mean by that?”
“Nothing.”
