Chapter 223: Artificial Respiration
At the sound of this shout, Jiang Kekai stopped her swimming and turned towards the maid, “What’s going on?” “This… this miss suddenly fainted, we can’t swim, Young Lady, please take a look,” reported the maid upon hearing it. Jiang Kekai noticed that Xia Yu hadn’t kept up, and there were no more splashes behind them.
Looking closer, she realized Xia Yu had sunk about halfway, who knew how much water she had swallowed in those few seconds.
Without any hesitation, Jiang Kekai quickly swam over and scooped Xia Yu up from the water, carrying her towards the shore. She didn’t expect things would turn so serious just from playing around.
Naturally, the maids on the shore were assisting, and they pulled Xia Yu up quickly enough.
Perhaps because the maid’s shout was so loud, everyone in the swimming pool heard it; not only Xia Ling and Jiang Hanhang, but also Jiang Kekai’s regular bodyguard and personal physician rushed over hurriedly.
They originally thought something had happened to Young Lady Jiang Kekai, but then found out it was just a little girl she was playing with and wasn’t someone important.
However, since the girl could befriends with the Young Lady, obviously she wouldn’t just be ignored, and without any hesitation, her physician began rescue breathing on Xia Yu.
“Is she fine?”
As soon as they got Xia Yu up, Jiang Kekai anxiously asked the physician. If there were any issues due to this, she would feel very guilty.
“The patient is on her period and has symptoms of anemia, so she most likely fainted from dizziness.”
The physician was quick to figure out Xia Yu’s symptoms.
But Jiang Kekai wasn’t worried about these details. What mattered to her was:
“When will she wake up? And will she have any lasting effects?”
“I don’t know, she’s still unconscious. Let’s wait and see.”
While saying this, the physician was continuously doing chest compressions on Xia Yu, thinking how irresponsible she was for not knowing her period had come and still swimming.
After half a minute of compressions, the physician discovered Xia Yu’s constitution was too weak for her to even start breathing.
Sighing in resignation, she took out some bandages and prepared for artificial respiration.
Jiang Kekai, of course, noticed this, but asked anyway: “Do we need to give her artificial respiration?”
“Yes, she’s unconscious and not breathing, so we must do this.”
With that said, the physician laid down to give Xia Yu artificial respiration, figuring it wouldn’t hurt since the girl was so adorable anyway.
Just then, Jiang Kekai stopped her: “Wait, let me do it.”
“What…?”
No waiting for a response, Jiang Kekai removed the bandage from Xia Yu’s mouth and started giving her mouth-to-mouth resuscitation directly.
After all, Xia Yu was someone she truly cared about, and she certainly wasn’t going to let others interfere.
So Jiang Kekai focused on artificial respiration while the physician continued chest compressions. Everyone around them watched, stunned.
Fortunately, after some time, Xia Yu finally showed signs of life.
Coughing and spitting out both water and what she had eaten that day, her nose went red — clearly very distressed.
“How are you feeling, Xiao Yu?”
Jiang Kekai, regardless of how messy this made things, eagerly embraced Xia Yu, checking if she was okay. Sadly, Xia Yu was still a bit weak, and managed to say, “I’m dizzy…”
She then immediately fainted again, this time falling into Jiang Kekai’s arms.
Fortunately, her fainting this time wasn’t as dangerous; she was still breathing. Seeing Xia Yu gradually regain stability, Jiang Kekai relaxed: “Let’s go back now, Xiao Yu needs to rest.”
This wasn’t up for discussion, just an announcement.
Thus, Jiang Kekai personally carried Xia Yu out of the swimming pool, followed by everyone else.
Indeed, neither Xia Ling nor Jiang Hanhang felt like playing anymore; they never expected danger would follow Xia Yu wherever she went.
This thought crossed their minds even as the maids considered something else: who would have guessed Young Lady Jiang Kekai would care so much about a girl, and even perform artificial respiration herself.
Jiang Kekai then brought Xia Yu home, changed her clothes, made sure she lay down, and administered glucose intravenously to help her recover.
According to the physician’s assessment, Xia Yu’s fainting was due to anemia. Once her energy was replenished, she would awaken.
Sure enough, by four in the afternoon, Xia Yu was awake, having happily slept away her fainting spell.
She imagined following Xiao Ning, her younger sister, and Jiang Hanhang for a swim, then drowning, while Xiao Ning gave her artificial respiration… was this dream real or not?
Opening her eyes, she looked at the familiar surroundings and the IV dripping next to her. Now she was worried—was this really happening?
Initially, Jiang Kekai had been focused on work. But hearing rustling sounds behind her, her attention shifted. Sure enough, Xiao Yu had awoken and was rubbing her eyes.
Not strange; Jiang Kekai had put three hot water bottles by her bed and covered her well with a blanket after returning home.
It wasn’t usual for her to feel hot in this weather.
“Xiao Yu, why didn’t you tell me you’d started your period? Didn’t you know swimming isn’t allowed during that time? It’s so dangerous.”
Initially, Jiang Kekai had been concerned, but thinking about how mischievous Xia Yu had been today, she had to teach her a lesson. So Jiang Kekai acted tough, climbed onto the bed, pressing Xiao Yu under her.
Xiao Yu was panicked—afraid Jiang Kekai might send her away. She was unsure what to do and wanted to cry.
But crying wasn’t going to solve anything.
So Xiao Yu spoke through tears: “I… I’m sorry, Xiao Ning, I… I didn’t mean to.”
“Are you going to do this again?”
“No, I won’t.”
Seeing her sincere remorse, Jiang Kekai softened, holding her close: “Remember to talk to me next time, Xiao Yu. You almost scared me to d*ath.”
Then, Jiang Kekai held Xiao Yu tightly again, making her heart feel warm. Naturally, she remembered to give her some nourishment, since Xiao Yu had vomited during lunch.
“Lay here, I’ll prepare something for you to help your body recover.”
Xiao Yu hoped Jiang Kekai would continue holding her as always—she found that comforting.
But she didn’t want to say anything.
So Xiao Yu hoped Jiang Kekai would return quickly. She wondered when she had become so attached to her.
Outside, Jiang Hanhang and Xia Ling were watching something together. Hearing Jiang Kekai come out, Xia Ling asked habitually: “Any news? Is my sister awake?”
“Yes, go look, I’ll get something for Xiao Yu.”
Jiang Hanhang and Xia Ling didn’t hesitate and headed straight to check on Xiao Yu. Three minutes later, Jiang Kekai returned with a large thermos and two bowls.
From her determined stance, Jiang Hanhang and Xia Ling guessed the contents.
Of course, as expected, a strong ginger smell filled the air when Jiang Kekai poured the liquid from the thermos into the bowl.
The thermos contained ginger tea with red sugar, which Jiang Kekai decided was necessary, knowing Xia Yu was probably still weak.
Checking the temperature confirmed it was just right.
“Drink this, Xiao Yu. It’ll make you feel better.”
Still in a firm tone, this was more of an order than a request. So Xiao Yu obeyed, downing the concoction.
After all, it wasn’t the first time she’d drunk such bitter stuff, having experienced it once before, brewed by Xia Ling.
