Chapter 230

### Chapter 229: Brazen Face

In the Hundred Flowers Park, which isn’t really home to a hundred flowers but many colorful ones (though mostly chrysanthemums)…

Upon arriving, Jiang Kekai had no intention of going anywhere in particular. She found other activities boring, so she led Xia Yu directly to the Hundred Flowers Square.

Here, there was dancing, roller skating, skateboarding, ring tossing, balloon popping, and hot dog selling—quite the lively scene. Grabbing Xia Yu, she sat down on some steps and started putting on her own roller skates. Then, she outfitted Xia Yu with all the protective gear, including her custom-made pads.

She went so far as to put on better protective gear for Xia Yu to ensure he wouldn’t get hurt while learning to skate.

Looking around, Jiang Hanhang was snuggled up with Xia Ling, a big smile on her face, clearly ready for any shenanigans that might unfold.

Xia Hong and Wang Wenjuan were also eyeing Jiang Kekai and Xia Yu closely, curious about how things would play out. They figured they might learn something about Xia Yu’s capabilities, too.

Xia Le seemed bored because he couldn’t participate and was just sulking while fiddling on his phone, complaining to his brother Jie.

Noticing his eldest son looking down, Xia Hong sidled over to him and asked, “What’s the matter? You want to try something? If you do, why don’t you ask your little brother if you can borrow some of his stuff?”

Xia Hong thought his boys should be closer since one often wore the old clothes of the other. But seeing them now made him feel a bit odd—he didn’t understand what to do to help.

Right then, Jiang Kekai helped Xia Yu get to his feet. As a beginner, Xia Yu couldn’t yet sense balance, so his legs were shaking, quite naturally. It was almost expected that something would go wrong.

Xia Yu ended up falling backward, pulling Jiang Kekai down with him.

“Phew!”

Jiang Hanhang clapped, gleeful at the fall, eager to see more. She seemed to not care if Xia Ling got in trouble.

Predictably, Xia Ling laughed off Jiang Hanhang’s antics and wondered if she truly didn’t have a care for her sister’s wrath. After giving Jiang Hanhang a stern look, she stopped clapping but still had a wide grin.

With renewed effort, Jiang Kekai helped Xia Yu back up. This time, she managed to keep him upright, even though Xia Yu was holding her arm really tight, causing her some pain. Despite the discomfort, she felt joy.

Dusting Xia Yu off, Jiang Kekai then instructed him on how to roller skate and watched him start trembling as he stood. She encouraged him from the front.

They once again ended up falling over; this time, Xia Yu stumbled on a small rock and tumbled forward. Jiang Kekai played the role of a human cushion. Lucky for them, it was a slow tumble, and they only got a bit dirty.

“Great! Let’s do it again!”

Jiang Hanhang was undeterred by her sister’s disapproving looks; she loved watching the falls.

While Jiang Hanhan revelled, the bodyguards protecting the girls in the shadows were deeply concerned. If the Young Lady got injured like this, could they be blamed for their failure?

Despite the risks, Jiang Kekai was having fun, enjoying Xia Yu’s company throughout.

By the end, both were drenched in sweat; they trudged back to the steps to remove their shoes. For Xia Yu, the simple act of finally touching the ground was pure bliss.

Jiang Kekai didn’t mind Xia Yu’s sweaty state and affectionately hugged him, asking, “How’s it going, Xia Yu? Wasn’t roller skating fun?”

“It wasn’t fun; I nearly split my b*tt open,” Xia Yu pouted, feeling pretty miserable.

Despite this, Jiang Kekai was thrilled. Xia Yu was starting to show some clingy behavior, which she interpreted as another sign he was getting more comfortable around her—or maybe even showing signs of an improved psychological condition?

Right after, Xia Hong approached Jiang Kekai and Xia Yu, asking, “Xia Yu, does your brother want to try these skates? Can it be arranged?”

Xia Yu, who usually couldn’t say no, agreed, thinking it was alright since she herself wore her brother’s clothes growing up. However, she couldn’t quite grasp Jiang Kekai’s perspective.

To Jiang Kekai, Xia Yu belonged to her. She’d never let anyone else wear her footwear, especially someone like Xia Le. Especially after the whole mess where Xia Le accused Xiao Ning of something unjust.

Still, Xia Yu acquiesced, and Jiang Kekai added bitterly, “Give him your skates. I’ll buy you new ones soon.”

Pulling Xia Yu aside with a skateboard, Jiang Kekai clearly intended to teach her how to use it.

But Xia Yu, sensitive to Jiang Kekai’s mood from earlier, felt unsure. Had she done something wrong by lending her skates to her brother?

“Xiao Ning, did I do something wrong?” she asked nervously, fearful of upsetting her.

Even before, Jiang Kekai was furious. But hearing Xia Yu’s innocent voice, she couldn’t stay angry and gave her a loving hug.

Xia Yu, however, was unnerved by Jiang Kekai’s initial demeanor.

“That was scary, but I promise I won’t be mean anymore,” Jiang Kekai said, petting Xia Yu’s cheek.

“Forget about it; I’m just nervous around Xia Le.”

After a moment of reflection, Jiang Kekai decided to be honest with Xia Yu, “I don’t like your brother. Whatever you have that isn’t broken or worn, keep it away from him. It makes me unhappy.”

“Is it really that serious?”

Xia Yu understood why Jiang Kekai had been upset—it was when Xia Yu lent her brother the skates.

Remembering how awkwardly they interacted lately, Xia Yu realized Xia Le and Jiang Kekai shared a rather strained relationship. Since he accused Jiang Kekai, things got worse.

Sure enough, Jiang Kekai reaffirmed her stance, “Whatever you have, don’t give it to your brother. Got that?”

“Okay.”

Placated, Jiang Kekai’s worry dissipated. She smiled and declared, “Enough gloom; I’ll teach you how to skateboard.”

Handing Xia Yu to the board, Jiang Kekai demonstrated how to start moving. Xia Yu watched, still uncertain about the two-wheeled contraption.

“See, it’s easy. You’re just thinking too hard,” she chided, trying to boost Xia Yu’s confidence.

They continued practicing amidst Jiang Kekai and Wang Wenjuan’s watchful eyes.

Then, tragedy struck again. Xia Le was seen, yet again, wearing Xia Yu’s skates and falling multiple times. While Jiang Kekai knew it was funny, his thick-skinned behavior irked her.
