Chapter 6: Librarian
After a while.
Night Star and her companions arrived at the gigantic library according to the map, their expressions a mix of awe and mild shock at the sight before them.
“So, this is the library? The biggest building here? It’s like a celebrity’s mansion!”
Night Star had spotted the grand structure from a distance but never expected it would house a treasure trove of books.
Given its size, it must be bursting with countless tomes.
With that thought, Night Star and the other two strolled into the library, curiosity practically radiating off of them.
Once inside, Night Star began to scan her surroundings, trying to absorb every detail at lightning speed.
Despite the vast collection of physical books, the interior design felt modern and tech-savvy, giving off a vibe like a five-star tech facility.
“Oh~ this place is pretty neat!”
She gazed over to see towering bookshelves crammed with books, creating a peculiar sensation.
Indeed, Night Star was a little overwhelmed.
This was her first time in a library—other cities had long since ditched such establishments.
In this e-book era, only a handful of special cities still had buildings dedicated to physical books.
Night Star had never heard of such a place in Yun Chang City.
Not just Night Star, but Lianhua and Kong Yu Bai were also taken aback by the scene.
Lianhua’s interest lay solely in puppet shows; she rarely read anything, let alone physical books.
Sure, she knew they existed, but standing in front of this ocean of literature hit her with a tidal wave of visual awe.
Kong Yu Bai felt similarly; though she had seen her fair share of places, she had never been to such a library.
“Wow, is there really a place like this? I really should’ve come when I was here last. What a pity I was too rushed!”
She sighed softly, seemingly regretting missing out on the library during her last visit.
Who knows, if she had spotted it then, it might’ve sparked a whole heap of inspiration for her to create enchanting music.
Kong Yu Bai had always been open to things that could inspire her.
No biggie, though; she was filled with ideas right now. Perhaps she could whip up some amazing songs—though maybe she’d have Night Star sing them.
After all, she was the “Starry Sky Songstress,” right? A little fame wouldn’t hurt!
“Uh, so since we’re in a library, let’s keep it down a bit—don’t want to disturb anyone, right?” Night Star recalled this little tidbit of common sense.
Lianhua and Kong Yu Bai nodded, naturally agreeing to follow the rules.
Night Star scrutinized her surroundings again and noticed there weren’t many people reading—maybe a dozen at most.
Well, that makes sense. In this day and age, the only ones reading physical books are a bunch of oddballs.
Reading physical books is a leisurely pastime, and very few modern folks are into that.
Most prefer the fast-paced charm of e-books, where a few hundred words zip by in the blink of an eye—reading lots of lines at once is just the norm.
It’s rare to find someone who can actually sit down and read closely.
And Night Star was definitely not one of those people.
She preferred to goof off—watching anime or cuddling with adorable lolis was far more her style.
But now that they’re here, might as well pick a random book to flip through.
Even if she didn’t read, wandering around this massive library sounded like a great time. Think of it as a tour!
Lianhua and Kong Yu Bai had no objections to this.
This little expedition was led by Night Star, so she could do whatever floated her boat.
Just as Night Star was pondering which book to check out, a thought crossed her mind.
Since it’s a library, there must be a librarian!
She began scanning the area and soon spotted a desk that looked like a front desk, where a figure sat quietly reading.
“Is she the librarian?”
Night Star tiptoed over to the front desk.
As she got closer, she could clearly see the librarian—a mature woman with long, deep purple hair, exuding beauty and an air of sophistication.
She was engrossed in a book, one hand holding the page open while the other propped up her chin, her equally deep purple eyes glued to the written words. You could practically feel the unique aura radiating from her.
Night Star was momentarily spellbound, hesitating to interrupt her.
But then the woman spoke.
“Can I help you? If you’d like to read, just let me know the type of books you’re interested in, and I can help you find them.”
Despite saying this, her gaze never strayed from the book.
“Uh… I’m not sure what I want to read…” Night Star blurted instinctively.
At this, the librarian closed her book and finally turned her attention to Night Star.
At first glance, the librarian’s expression shifted slightly in surprise before settling back to calm.
“What type of books do you enjoy?”
“Um? Something lighthearted, I guess.”
“What do you like specifically?”
“Maybe… light novels?”
“I see.”
The librarian stood up, casting a quick glance at Lianhua and Kong Yu Bai behind Night Star, then turned to lead the way.
“Follow me. We have plenty of light novels, but I’m not sure what you’ll like, so feel free to choose.”
“Uh, thanks a lot!”
Night Star obediently trailed behind the librarian, following her into another section of the library, ultimately arriving between two towering bookshelves.
“All the books here are light novels. Many series are connected. Pick whichever you like, just remember to return them to their original spots once you’re done.”
“Got it!”
Night Star nodded enthusiastically.
“Well, if that’s all, I’ll take my leave. Enjoy your time in the library.”
With that, the librarian turned and left, casting a graceful silhouette behind her.
Kong Yu Bai and Lianhua stood quietly behind Night Star, refraining from speaking.
Once the librarian was gone, Kong Yu Bai remarked, “Night Star, that librarian gave me a strange vibe. She seems… not quite ordinary.”
“Uh… yeah, I think she’s a pretty special lady,” Night Star mused.
Lianhua blinked and raised a question.
“Is she a Star Holder?”
Night Star shook her head. “Doesn’t seem like it. I didn’t pick up any Star aura from her—not a Star Eclipse either.”
Kong Yu Bai nodded gently in agreement.
“True enough. If she’s not from this world, why does she give off such an odd feeling?”
After a few seconds of pondering, Night Star shook her head, adopting a serious demeanor.
“Well, it’s not our business. Since we don’t have any special connection with her, let’s not worry about it.”
Upon hearing this, Kong Yu Bai smiled lightly, letting the matter drift from her mind.
“That’s a good point!”
