### Chapter 232: Bed-Sharing Together
“Mm.”
Xia Yu really didn’t want to dwell on this anymore. Since Li Jia gave her an out, Xia Yu naturally wasn’t going to be polite.
Then… Li Jia casually pinched Xia Yu’s little cheeks and said with a chuckle, “Hmm, hmm, the texture feels great, this makes me a bit more convinced that Xia Yu is a girl.”
Xia Yu: “……..”
Seeing Xia Yu’s flustered expression, Li Jia chuckled because she just had one of her quirks for teasing Xia Yu.
So, she went even further, reaching out to pat Xia Yu’s head: “Alright, alright, I’m complimenting how cute you look, Xia Yu should be happy.” “Go away, go away, go away! You’re all boring.”
Xia Yu took off Li Jia’s hand from her head, feeling a bit sullen, then began lying face-down on the table. She hadn’t volunteered to look like this at all.
Thinking about this, Xia Yu felt quite helpless. She wanted to grow more like a man, like her Big Brother Xia Le, but instead, she was becoming cuter like her little sister.
Seeing this, Li Jia and Guo Yao exchanged smiles victoriously, then stopped bothering Xia Yu, knowing they shouldn’t push it too far. As for Gao Xiaotian, he liked to talk since he couldn’t play with his phone during class, so now that it was break time, he naturally seized the chance to use his phone.
Thus, Xia Yu’s day turned out somewhat depressing.
As the old saying goes, “It takes 100 days to recover from major injuries,” which means recovery time. Actually, applying plaster only takes four weeks, or 28 days.
Therefore, on Friday afternoon, Xia Ling accompanied by her parents and her sisters Xia Yu, Jiang Kekai, and Jiang Hanhang went to the hospital to remove the heavy cast. Xia Ling could hardly believe how good it felt to actually take it off; she finally didn’t have to carry this bulky thing around anymore. Yet, despite this, she had to be careful and avoid heavy lifting or vigorous exercise to prevent re-injury.
This meant Xia Ling would need more rest before she could push Jiang Hanhang again, and who knows how frustrated she was when she found out this news. She thought taking this thing off would mean she could party.
With time tight—they had to attend the wedding on October second—Xia Hong planned to drive overnight, rest the next day, and get everything settled.
After Xia Ling had her cast removed and they got home, Jiang Kekai started helping Xia Yu pack, knowing Xia Yu’s personality. She not only packed some female outfits but also added some male outfits, along with other sundries.
Considering Xia Yu was only staying for a few days, Jiang Kekai’s care for Xia Yu was quite deep, although she couldn’t accompany her. Moreover, she had her own matters to deal with during this period.
After dinner, Jiang Kekai hugged Xia Yu goodbye, while Jiang Hanhan also bid farewell to Xia Ling. As Xia Yu’s family set out, Xia Hong, despite recently getting a car, often borrowed a colleague’s car for work before, which was reliable. With five years of driving experience, cruising on the highway posed no issue for him.
While driving, Xia Hong advised those in the back, “If you feel sleepy, you can sleep. One nap and we’re there.” While they all understood, it wasn’t the most appropriate timing. So they humored him with an “mmm” response.
Since Xia Le enjoyed sightseeing, he sat in the front passenger seat. Wang Wenjuan mischievously put her arms around Xia Yu and Xia Ling, sitting in the middle between them affectionately.
Previously, Wang Wenjuan once wished Xia Yu was her daughter too, and now seeing her as her real daughter, she was happy but also worried.
She looked at Xia Yu’s face, noticing her long hair, and sighed. How beautiful her hair was, causing her as a mother to feel a bit envious.
Turning to Xia Ling, she sighed too. Both her daughters had such nice hair.
Although she wanted to inquire, Wang Wenjuan feared raising any suspicions, so she held back, thinking she’d have time later to chat.
Holding up, Xia Yu, having motion sickness, finally couldn’t resist and leaned against the window to try sleeping.
But, obviously, on a moving car, jolts were unavoidable. Xia Yu’s nap was abruptly interrupted, causing a bit of annoyance.
In the end, it was Wang Wenjuan who, seeing this, wrapped Xia Yu in her embrace, letting Xia Yu rest on her lap. Even after all these years, it felt strange being so close with her mother.
Xia Ling had already fallen asleep on their mother’s shoulder, smelling sweet.
Wang Wenjuan adjusted Xia Ling’s position too, laying her against her thigh. Thankfully, both Xia Yu and Xia Ling hadn’t developed too much yet, so the space wasn’t crowded.
From the rearview mirror, Xia Hong could see everything clearly. Still, he didn’t say anything, focusing on driving, unknown to what he may have been thinking inside.
At three in the morning, Xia Hong’s car finally reached Xia Family Village. “Okay, wake up. We’re here.”
The car lights came on as the door opened, and Xia Hong started waking up the three dozing girls in the back.
At this moment, Xia Yu and Xia Ling both woke up, stretched after sleeping in that awkward position. They opened their doors, stepped out with luggage intent on going to bed.
A cool breeze blew, reminding Xia Yu and Xia Ling of the rural air’s difference compared to the city’s. This late-night chill was particularly noticeable.
Just then, two flashlights shone through, revealing their grandpa and grandma.
“Why did you guys come back so late? Did you eat already?”
Xia Hong looked toward Xia Le, Xia Yu, and Xia Ling, “Are you hungry, kids? I can heat up some food.”
Xia Le: “Starving.”
Xia Yu: “Not hungry.”
Xia Ling: “Not hungry.”
“Since you guys aren’t hungry, I’ll heat up something later. Where are your bags? I can help with that.”
Grandma and Grandpa moved to help with the luggage, so Xia Yu and Xia Ling eagerly rushed upstairs with their luggage. However, Xia Yu underestimated the reality…
Yep, her room in the countryside wasn’t as comfy as back home. Besides an old wooden bed, there was nothing else but a desk.
Putting down her suitcase, Xia Yu tried rubbing her finger across the bamboo mat…
Her fingertips turned black. How could she sleep on such a filthy mat? Xia Yu felt a bit distressed.
Looking at the always-open window, she finally realized why the bed was so dirty after her absence. It was truly filthy, and the lack of effort was evident. She wondered how Xia Ling’s room might be too.
With curiosity, Xia Yu headed to Xia Ling’s room.
But, Xia Ling’s door was shut.
Bang bang bang…
Click—”What?”
Xia Ling opened the door and her demeanor softened upon seeing Xia Yu. “Still looking for me so late? Aren’t you tired?”
“Tired, my room’s super messy right now. What’s it like over here?”
“Same as always, I made sure to close the windows and doors. Nothing’s changed.” Xia Ling yawned, showing she was genuinely tired.
As if on cue, Xia Hong called from downstairs, “Xia Yu, Xia Ling, you grandmother has heated some food. Do you want to come down and eat?”
“No, I’m just going to sleep,” replied Xia Ling.
“Yeah,” Xia Yu chimed in.
Then, hesitantly, Xia Yu eyed Xia Ling’s neat bedroom and summoned the courage to ask, “Can I come sleep in your room tonight? I’ll clean out the bamboo mat tomorrow.”
“What’s the problem? Hurry up and come to sleep, I’m about to fall asleep myself.” Xia Ling dragged Xia Yu into the room and shut the door behind her.
Lying down, Xia Ling told Xia Yu with her eyes closed, “Turn off the light, sis, then come to bed. I’m exhausted.”
Xia Yu switched off the light and climbed onto Xia Ling’s bed. Sure enough, there was no dust. With her eyelids heavy, Xia Yu soon fell into a deep, continuous sleep until the next morning.
