Chapter 14: About to Be Captured
Night Star suddenly felt out of place among these students.
Not because she was impersonating a student, but because of her other identity as a Night Watcher.
While these students were starting from scratch to chase after the title of Night Watcher, Night Star (Night Lan) had long become one.
But she couldn’t reveal this information; all she could do was “play dumb” and mingle with the crowd, ready to make a quick exit at any moment.
Just as the upperclassman beside Night Star was about to whisper something, the Night Watcher instructor’s gaze pierced through, sharp like a predator eyeing its prey, full of danger and pressure.
The moment that gaze locked onto him, the upperclassman froze, almost choking on his words.
With an indifferent tone, the Night Watcher instructor said, “To be a Night Watcher, discipline is the bare minimum. If you can’t even manage that, you have no right to be a Night Watcher nor perform well in any other job. I hope you all understand this.”
At this, the students straightened up, appearing attentive.
Continuing his speech, the instructor said, “After I finish discussing these theories, I will demonstrate some star effects. You’re free to explore or discuss them yourselves. Theory should meet practice for genuine progress. Clear?”
“Clear!”
Night Star chimed in with everyone else, though her mind was elsewhere.
Even if the instructor’s lecture was captivating, it was still boring to her.
But she did have a little interest in the upcoming star demonstration.
As they say, there are plenty of boring star holders, but finding one that’s interesting is rare.
Sometimes, witnessing the display of stars can broaden one’s horizons and lighten the mood.
Night Star was looking forward to this, but staying too long here would only increase the chances of her cover being blown.
Hence, she had to find an opportunity to sneak away when the time came.
As time ticked by, the instructor finally wrapped up his theoretical talk.
Following his command, the students began searching for open spaces to study their stars.
Taking advantage of this moment, Night Star activated her Existence Interference ability, reducing her presence before she made a swift getaway unnoticed.
By the time the instructor wanted to give individual attention to a petite girl, he noticed she’d vanished.
“Where’d she go?”
The camera shifts.
Night Star’s figure appeared somewhere else on campus, far away from the previous location.
She figured the instructor wouldn’t come looking for her.
“Phew, that was intense. Might as well leave the academy now.”
Night Star mumbled, already considering leaving.
After all, there were so many Night Watchers in this academy; who knew when someone might catch on?
If she was caught, the only option would be to rely on the Wish Machine.
Using such a star for escape wasn’t worth it.
So, avoiding danger starts with me!
With that, she headed toward the campus exit, planning to sneak out once again.
Just then, a voice called out to her.
“Hold it.”
“Eh?”
Her body tensed up, turning her head towards the sound like a robot.
Ten meters away, a familiar Night Watcher girl with a puzzled look locked eyes with her.
“Where are you going?”
“Eh? What are you doing here?”
“That’s what I should ask you. Where are you going? From your outfit, you seem to be a star holder from this academy, supposedly under the instruction of a Night Watcher guide. But according to my information, it’s not time for breaks yet.”
“Gah…”
Night Star fell silent.
This Night Watcher was definitely part of the elite, comparable to Xiao Jin or Wang Chao. There was an overwhelming sense of pressure.
If facing her with Night Lan’s identity, Night Star wouldn’t feel anxious.
But now she’s Night Star, and her unclear position makes her a target for even regular enforcers. Not to mention, specialized in handling star anomalies.
Caught in this predicament, Night Star’s tiny brain scrambled for an escape plan.
Unfortunately, Ice Lixie wouldn’t give her much time to think.
“I bet you’re not really a student, right?”
“Eh? How did you know?”
“Simple. Just check the name you gave me. The system records show no Night Star as a student, neither in the academy nor the national database. Why’s that?”
Night Star was stunned.
She never expected such initiative from this Night Watcher, who had seemingly done so much in just a short time.
Was she suspicious from the start?
Realizing this, Night Star understood how intimidating elite Night Watchers could be—not just in combat, but in everything else.
That kind of power might come from keen observation or an almost precognitive intuition.
So, Night Star was getting antsy.
Best not stick around.
“It looks like you want to run.”
“Gah…”
Got it right…
Night Star felt she was exposed.
Ice Lixie continued, “I suggest you reconsider. Yesterday, a Night Watcher found something odd in the Art Museum. Supposedly, three girls were seen together, likely all star holders, with one carrying a Star Eclipses aura. When the watcher approached to investigate, the trio fled at godspeed B. Could you be the one?”
“Gasp!”
“Don’t worry, it’s just a logical guess. Although we don’t know where your friends are, will you agree to return with me for questioning?”
Ice Lixie’s voice was incredibly gentle, not what you’d expect from someone on duty.
Night Star hesitated, then nodded.
“Yeah, okay.”
Hearing this, Ice Lixie smiled warmly.
“Wise choice. Actually, my speed exceeds godspeed B. You won’t outrun me if you try.”
“Wow… strong.”
Night Star never imagined meeting someone faster than her so soon.
Her pride in her own speed was no more.
Then Ice Lixie naturally took Night Star’s hand, preventing escape while confident in her own strength.
“Alright, let’s go back to the Night Watcher base and explain why you wanted to run. This way, we’ll know you and your friends aren’t anomalies requiring elimination.”
“Grahh…”
Night Star pondered briefly, then let Ice Lixie lead her away like a recalcitrant child.
