Chapter 36: It’s Definitely Because I’m Cute
A little while later, the breakfast that Night Star and company ordered was served.
Night Star preferred lighter food in the morning, so she ordered a bowl of what looked like very delicious porridge.
Since it was the cuisine of Chef Star, even the porridge would be delicious.
And just as Night Star thought, after tasting it, she was completely conquered by the deliciousness of this bowl of porridge.
When it comes to the Night Watcher Base, there is indeed a chef who makes Star dishes.
At least two Star Holders take care of preparing food for the Night Watchers, mostly Star dishes.
So why did these two Sunlight Night Watchers come out to eat?
In response to this, Night Star couldn’t help but ask curiously.
“Can’t you guys enjoy Star dishes in the Night Watcher Base? Why come to the food and entertainment district?”
Upon hearing this, Ice Lixie narrowed her eyes slightly.
“Why, Audience Performer, how do you know there’s a chef who makes Star dishes at the Night Watcher Base? You really give off the impression that you’ve been there.”
“Uh, I guessed!”
Anyway, Night Star would never admit that her Night Lantern works as a mascot in Yun Chang City’s Night Watcher Base.
She had been to the cafeteria numerous times, naturally knowing they serve Star dishes.
Ice Lixie didn’t press further but replied, “Because among chefs, there are stronger and weaker ones. Not all Star dishes made by Star Holders are at the same level; it depends on each person’s mastery of cooking, as well as their own Stars and spiritual energy. The best Star Chef in Qi Yuan City set up shop here, so if you want the best Star dishes, you should come here.”
“Oh, I see.”
Night Star understood roughly.
Most likely, those sent out with tasks from the base eat inside first to meet basic energy demands before going out, not overly concerned about how fancy the food might be. Only those with extremely high standards for food, or with leisure time, would come here for breakfast.
That pretty much sums it up.
In the following time, everyone ate breakfast in quiet, not saying much.
Once Night Star finished her bowl of porridge, Ice Lixie stood up and said, “Performer, can we talk alone for a bit?”
“Huh?”
Just then, Empty Rain White turned her gaze over to Ice Lixie.
“This Night Watcher, what are you talking about with our Performer? Letting her stay alone with you doesn’t seem right.”
“I guess it does sound abrupt; however, this is something I genuinely only want to talk about with Performer.”
Recognizing Night Star quickly, she didn’t let the atmosphere get tense.
“Um, okay…”
Saying this, she looked at Lianhua and Empty Rain White, signaling them not to worry.
Both could only sigh and let things unfold as they may.
Soon, Night Star and Ice Lixie left the booth, leaving Mo Qianmeng and two Theater Group members sitting at a table.
Mo Qianmeng was feeling incredibly tense now, her body tightening.
“Why did it turn out like this…”
This was too much.
Ice Lixie let her and two Star Eclipses from the Sunrise Theater Group alone.
One was a Supernoiva Star Eclipse from Doll City, while the other also seemed to be one.
It’s like having two nuclear bombs ready to detonate at any moment—utterly impossible to relax.
Even though they’re currently normal like humans, Mo Qianmeng feels an immense pressure.
Since becoming a Sunlight Night Watcher, she has never felt this tense.
She truly didn’t dare move.
Sister Lixie, come back soon…
Outside:
Night Star and Ice Lixie reached an empty area.
Stopping, Night Star curiously asked, “What do you want to talk about?”
“About the Librarian.”
“Whaaat?”
Hearing this, Night Star immediately pictured Purple-haired Administrator in her mind.
She remembered that Ice Lixie’s friend was the Librarian.
Then why would Ice Lixie bring her up now?
Just as Night Star felt curious and puzzled, Ice Lixie continued, “Ever since meeting her ten years ago, she’s only ever had me as a friend.”
“Ten years ago?”
Night Star’s confusion deepened.
Because Ice Lixie looked very young, under twenty, ten years ago she should have been less than ten years old.
“So for ten years, she’s only had you as a friend?”
“Yes.”
“Oh geez, I always thought the Librarian sister seemed sociable enough to make lots of friends.”
“That’s true if she wanted to.”
Ice Lixie gently sighed.
Night Star quickly understood.
“So you mean she’s always unwilling to make friends?”
“Yeah, she never approaches others proactively—doesn’t even engage in deep conversations when she has them—enough to show she wants no deeper connections.”
“Why?”
Night Star sensed this.
It definitely wasn’t due to social anxiety.
Social anxiety usually arises from personality traits making it hard to interact normally with others. But the Librarian seemed to avoid more interaction due to some hidden reason.
With no other friends around, wouldn’t that feel lonely?
Ice Lixie is a Night Watcher, so she probably doesn’t have much free time to chat.
Ice Lixie smiled wryly.
“She’s probably trying not to suffer again and has firmly decided that getting close to anyone might hurt someone else.”
Night Star still didn’t quite understand.
Ice Lixie’s reasoning lacked clarity, almost like holding something back.
Ice Lixie changed the subject slightly.
“But it seems she wants to befriend you now. Throughout all our acquaintance, I’ve never seen her approach anyone so actively. Do you know why?”
Night Star nodded and mulled it over.
“Maybe because I’m cute?”
“Um… that could be it… there’s probably something about you that attracts her.”
Hearing this, Night Star became even more certain.
“Definitely because of my cuteness!”
Night Star believed her most confident trait was her adorable appearance.
Otherwise, she had no clue.
Ice Lixie didn’t want to comment on that point anymore.
“Performer, if the Librarian wants to be your friend, would you say yes?”
“Well, probably… I’m not sure if we’re actually friends yet, but our relationship is more book-friend-like…”
“That’s understandable. Can I ask you something else?”
“What is it?”
“When you become real friends with her, can you spend more time with her and make her feel like she can’t live without you?”
“Hu…?”
This struck Night Star as odd.
Why did this sound so strange?
Ice Lixie didn’t explain much.
“I think that’s about all for now. You’ll understand someday. When that happens, it’s up to you to decide what to do.”
