Chapter 266: I Won’t Do It
After school, as soon as they piled into the car, Jiang Kekai turned to Zhao Wei with a serious expression. “Don’t go to the front gate; we’re sneaking out from the back this time.”
“But Miss, all our bodyguards went to the front gate! If we take the back door, we won’t have any protection!” Zhao Wei hesitated.
“Relax! Trust me, we’re using the back!”
Seeing Jiang Kekai’s determination, Zhao Wei didn’t argue further. She complied and drove the four young ladies to the school’s back gate, planning to head home from there. Xia Yu wasn’t sure if her sister Little Ning had some grand plan up her sleeve, and too shy to ask, decided to just go along for the ride.
Once they exited, both the front and back gates of the school were bustling with activity; after all, they were just convenient paths home.
Just as Zhao Wei’s car rolled out, six small vehicles suddenly surrounded them, blocking their way.
Seeing this, Xia Yu’s heart raced. “Oh no, please don’t let it be another kidnapping or revenge plot! I only just recovered from the last time!”
In a panic, she squeezed Jiang Kekai’s hand tighter, clearly stressed out. Jiang Kekai gave her a teasing smile and ruffled Xia Yu’s hair. “Don’t worry, Little Yu. Your sister’s here.”
“Mm-hmm.”
Xia Yu nodded, always having a sort of blind trust in Jiang Kekai for reasons she couldn’t quite understand.
Confirming that their car was thoroughly blocked, Doctor Y, along with the Lin Family Head and Huang Family Head, stepped out of their vehicles and approached.
Even though they had been expected, Jiang Kekai didn’t back down. She swung the car door open and confronted the three old geezers as if they were auditioning for a horror film.
“Miss Jiang, hope you’re doing well. You know why we’re here, right? We’d like to have a little chat with Xia Yu.”
“She has nothing to discuss with you. Move aside, or you’ll find out what happens when you anger me,” Jiang Kekai shot back with unabashed disdain.
“Don’t be too hasty! I know your skills as the young lady of the Jiang family, but I’m not here to pick a fight—just seeking Xia Yu’s assistance.”
Looking at Doctor Y, if it weren’t for her father’s warning and having seen him flaunt his arrogance that afternoon, she might have believed him. Therefore, she stood her ground. “And what if I say no? She’s mine, and if I say she won’t help, she won’t!”
“Are you really going to be stubborn about it? I’m being very sincere here.”
“So what? I owe no favors to someone who stole my uncle’s research. I know what you’re after—this conversation is over.” Doctor Y’s eyes darted from Jiang Kekai to the bodyguard Zhao Wei, and he sighed. “In that case, I guess it’s time to be rude.”
With that, dozens of adult men rushed from the small cars, their target clearly set on Xia Yu’s vehicle.
Sure, they could’ve jumped into action the moment they blocked the car, but after all that back-and-forth with Jiang Kekai, they were clearly giving her a bit of face.
If they didn’t act fast, Jiang’s bodyguards would show up, and today would end with them empty-handed.
Just then, Xia Yu, ignoring Xia Ling’s attempts to hold her back, boldly got out of the car and called out to the three old men, “You’re looking for me, right? Leave my sister Little Ning alone!”
Indeed, the car wasn’t soundproof, and Xia Yu had heard every word exchanged outside. She didn’t expect Little Ning to risk offending these people over her.
“You must be Xia Yu?”
Though he’d seen Xia Yu’s photos, Doctor Y felt the need to confirm in person. “Yes, I’m Xia Yu. What do you want from me?”
Xia Yu replied confidently, though her legs were trembling, revealing just how terrified she felt.
Simultaneously, Xia Ling and Jiang Hanhang followed suit and stepped out of the car. They had family outside, after all; hiding in the car would look ridiculous.
Xia Ling stepped out, instantly drawing Doctor Y’s attention with her identical features to Xia Yu.
But Doctor Y got a bit dizzy! Seeing the two girls in matching school uniforms and sneakers was a lot to handle.
Regardless, he had business to attend to. He focused back on Xia Yu. “Here’s the deal: I need you for an experiment, and if you agree, there’s a neat one million in it for you. How does that sound?”
“Experiment?”
As soon as she heard those two words, bad memories from a year ago flooded Xia Yu’s mind—memories she’d never forget. They were too painful.
“Exactly!” Doctor Y pressed on, ignoring Xia Yu’s pale complexion. “I need you to cooperate with a few bl**d tests. Should be simple enough, right? Just agree, and we can discuss terms.”
Doctor Y spoke confidently, figuring no one could resist such a massive temptation. Surely, no adult could refuse it, let alone a kid. But the next second, to everyone’s shock, Xia Yu shook her head. “Nope! I don’t want to do any experiments. Little Ning, let’s go home!”
Not sure why, but Doctor Y’s stare felt like it could petrify someone. In a panic, Xia Yu dashed over to Jiang Kekai, clutching her hand with a quivering voice. “Little Ning, can we go home?”
“Okay!”
Jiang Kekai was relieved by Xia Yu’s answer and affectionately ruffled her hair, thinking, “This little fool has no idea about the gravity of the situation.”
At that moment, Doctor Y’s face was impossible to describe, dark and stormy as if he couldn’t comprehend how hard it was to trick kids these days.
Right then, the Jiang family’s bodyguards finally arrived in force, enveloping the area and blocking both Doctor Y and the others’ escape.
“What’s it gonna be? Will you drive away yourselves, or should I have someone push your cars out? Just a heads up; I won’t be responsible if something breaks,” Jiang Kekai declared with newfound confidence, feeling assured now that the situation had flipped in their favor.
Looking around at the numerous Jiang bodyguards surrounding them, Doctor Y could only huff in frustration and retreat to his vehicle. Moments later, the six small cars blocking Jiang’s car gradually departed, too afraid to linger any longer.
Once the enemy vehicles were long gone, the head bodyguard, Ah Cheng, approached Jiang Kekai, sincerely apologizing, “I’m sorry, Miss, we arrived late.”
“It’s fine, I told you to do this. Now let’s head back.”
With that, Jiang Kekai took Xia Yu’s hand and got back into the car, with Xia Ling and Jiang Hanhang trailing behind.
Shortly thereafter, their vehicle revved back to life, speeding away from the school gate lest the law enforcement show up again. “Wow, I can’t believe you weren’t tempted by that one million, Xia Yu! Impressive!” Jiang Hanhang teased.
Caught off guard by the compliment, Xia Yu stammered, unsure whether to take it as a compliment or an insult. Seeing this, Jiang Kekai chimed in. “Little Yu, do you know why Doctor Y wanted your help with his experiment?”
“Nope.”
Xia Yu shook her little head vigorously.
“It’s because the experiment has everything to do with you! My uncle destroyed those data sets, and now he’s recreated part of it, but he still needs you—the only successful test subject—to gather what’s needed. Do you get it, little sister?”
“Mm?”
Though she understood the words, they didn’t quite register in her mind. Her instincts told her to stay far away from Doctor Y and avoid him at all costs.
Seeing Xia Yu’s blank expression again, Jiang Kekai sighed. Then, she affectionately pulled her closer, gently reassuring her. “Just remember, Little Yu, stay away from those people. And don’t worry! Your sister will protect you.”
“Ew! You’re so cheesy, sister.”
Rolling her eyes at Jiang Kekai, mischievous little Jiang Hanhang decided to imitate Xia Yu, diving into Xia Ling’s arms and playfully whining, “Me too! Little Ling, protect me~”
Jiang Kekai: “…”
Xia Yu: “…”
“Alright! Let’s see if my Nine Yin White Bone Claw has anything to say about that!”
With that, Xia Ling, not in the mood to play along, promptly tickled Jiang Hanhang until she was laughing uncontrollably, unsure which way was up! “Little Ling, my sister is so troublesome! Don’t hold back tonight when you take her home. If she doesn’t get a good beating, she might think she can just laugh at me!”
Out of surprise, upon hearing Jiang Kekai’s words, Xia Ling suddenly halted, grinning mischievously as she tightly hugged the soon-to-be-sitting-up Jiang Hanhang. “Troublemaker! Did you just tell me to teach someone a lesson? I’ll do the opposite!”
Jiang Hanhang: “……”
