Chapter 42: The Invitation
Mo Qianmeng watched Ice Lixie’s retreating figure, her gaze gradually blurring.
The Night Watcher known as Ice Lixie might really be the most special person in this city.
No one knows when she was first stationed here in Qi Yuan City.
Mo Qianmeng knew she had always been here since arriving in Qi Yuan City.
According to Hei Yang, before he became the leader of the city, there was already a Sunlight Night Watcher here who had never been replaced.
She was Ice Lixie.
She calls herself the eternal watcher of this city, though no one understands what that means.
But it is confirmed that she’s quite amazing.
Just as Mo Qianmeng was lost in thought, an orange-haired small boy walked up the road.
“Isn’t that little Qianmeng? Where did you come from? You just got back. I don’t remember you having any special tasks lately.”
Listening to this, Mo Qianmeng calmly looked at Hei Yang and said, “Today, while out, I discovered three performers from the Rising Sun Theater Group—an Audience Performer, a Singer, and a Puppet Master. To prevent them from causing chaos, I decided to make contact and monitor them, staying until dusk.”
“Ah?”
Hei Yang opened his mouth wide, looking completely shocked.
“Is this true?”
“Ice Lixie can be a witness, she was there too.”
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
“I think it wasn’t necessary. If you were there, you might have disrupted my harmony with the three from the Rising Sun Theater Group, and then the opportunity for friendly interaction would’ve been wasted. It would be such a loss,” stated Mo Qianmeng seriously.
Hei Yang’s eyebrows shot up immediately.
“Are you saying indirectly that I’m unlikable? Although I’m not very fond of my current appearance, among boys, I’m still top-level, if not charmingly youthful.”
“That’s not it. Under the sun, Hei Yang is too glaring. Nobody likes getting close to the sun.”
Hei Yang pondered for a moment.
“Seems like it. Next time you encounter them, remember to inform me. Bringing the Audience Performer to the Night Watcher Base would be even better.”
“I’ll try my best…”
With that, Mo Qianmeng turned around and left. Hei Yang watched her leave and sank into deep thought.
“What’s wrong? With my kid-like build, shouldn’t I be quite popular? If a small loli can be loved, why can’t a handsome boy? It’s so unfair! Cold shivers!”
Hearing this, Mo Qianmeng, who was walking away some distance, sighed and turned back.
“Hei Yang senior, can you go somewhere private when you’re having an episode, so as not to damage our Sunlight Night Watcher’s reputation?”
After saying that, Mo Qianmeng disappeared from Hei Yang’s sight.
Hei Yang twitched a corner of his mouth but did not follow up.
He went to the window and peered outside, watching the twilight slowly turn darker, night fell.
He rapidly changed his demeanor, his expression becoming much colder.
“Sunset Research Institute, what exactly are you researching now? If you mess around again, don’t expect mercy from me.”
…
Night Star and company returned to the Rising Sun Theater Group.
The day ended just like that.
Night Star felt today was quite fun. Playing games with friends sure beats boredom.
And today, they also got to meet cousin Mo Tu. It’s a shame cousin Mo Tu didn’t know they knew each other. Maybe Night Star could use the photo as leverage later.
Yeah, she’s feeling herself becoming more and more adept at having fun.
Wonder what the look on cousin Mo Tu’s face will be like.
Can’t wait to see it.
Night Star glanced at the clock, shaking off the random thoughts whirling through her mind.
“Songster, Puppet Master, I’m heading to the library to read a book. I’ll be back soon.”
“Be careful on the way.”
“Okay.”
Night Star walked out of the Theater’s exit, the scene instantly changed.
This was somewhere in the Calligraphy and Painting Entertainment District, close to the Library.
Quietly leaving the corner, Night Star entered the library.
Surveying the place, she noticed only a few people scattered around reading books.
Looking toward the front desk, the Purple-haired Administrator was still there, poring over a book just as she usually was.
Ice Lixie wasn’t present today, probably came and left already.
With light steps, Night Star approached the front desk, whispering, “Administrator Sister, I’d like to read the book you recommended to me before.”
On hearing this, the Administrator raised her eyelids and nodded gently.
“Mmm, I’ll fetch it for you.”
With that, the Administrator stood up and left the front desk. Obediently, Night Star followed behind, leading them to a massive bookshelf.
The Administrator glanced upwards, then took the elevator up to retrieve the book.
Once back on the ground, the Administrator handed the book to Night Star.
“This is one of the books I recommended to you. I hope you enjoy it.”
“Uhh.”
Night Star took the book, hugging it as they returned to the reading area.
The Administrator resumed her post at the front desk. Night Star sat down nearby and started flipping through the Administrator-recommended book.
As time passed, the sky grew darker. Readers left one by one, until finally, only the Administrator and Night Star remained.
During this period, Night Star had almost finished reading the book, thoroughly captivated by its content.
Indeed, books recommended by librarians are always good.
With her extensive reading background, judging a book’s worth is child’s play for her.
That’s how Night Star managed to have such a splendid reading experience under the Administrator’s suggestions.
Shortly, Night Star turned to the last page, concluding the story. Now, she was quietly reflecting.
“It’s a good book.”
Looking back toward the front desk, she spotted the Purple-haired Administrator still engrossed in her book, displaying calm beauty.
Suddenly, she recalled what Ice Lixie told her earlier.
“Um… Administrator Sister, I finished that book. Since we’re the last two in the library now, may I chat with you?”
“Sure, but keep it quiet. I’ll listen.” The Administrator didn’t even lift her head.
“Okay.” Nodding obediently, Night Star began recounting the day’s adventures.
“In fact, today, I visited the gaming entertainment district with friends. It’s my first time in such a place, and everything was very intriguing. If not for a reliable older sister by my side, maybe the whole experience wouldn’t have been as pleasant.”
“That sounds nice.”
“Have you ever visited the gaming entertainment district, Administrator?” Night Star asked curiously.
The Administrator nodded slightly.
“I have, but that was long ago. I don’t remember the last time I stepped foot there.”
“Uh-huh, I see. I find it quite interesting, and I’ve been wanting to visit it recently.”
“Sounds fine.”
Then Night Star fell silent, hesitating to speak further.
Since Ice Lixie said the Administrator has few friends, let me become her most unique friend instead.
“Um, Administrator Sister, I’d like to go out tomorrow.”
“Suit yourself. Have fun in advance.”
“Could I invite you to come along?”
With a fluttering heart, Night Star asked this question.
