### Chapter 44: I Saw It Coming
On the bustling streets filled with people coming and going, Night Star, plagued by choice paralysis, was deep in thought about where to go first.
Just then, she felt a twinge of something unusual and abruptly interrupted her musings.
“Hmm… that’s strange…”
“What’s up?” the Administrator softly inquired.
Night Star furrowed her brows.
“I feel like someone’s following us… could it be a Night Watcher?”
Using her Existence Interference ability to enhance her perceptive senses, she confirmed a peculiar presence trailing them, likely a Star Holder. Plus, there were strange, silent drones flying overhead, suspiciously following them as well.
At first, Night Star thought these followers might be Night Watchers, but a fleeting thought reminded her that they didn’t usually operate in such a strange way. What if it was another power at play?
The Administrator quickly connected the dots after hearing Night Star’s concern.
“Let’s shake them off.”
“Uh-huh, I was just thinking the same thing! Even if they are Night Watchers, they shouldn’t be tailing us. If they’re not, then it’s even less acceptable.”
Determined, Night Star resolved to ditch these oddballs.
Then she took the Administrator’s hand, as if planning something.
“Hold on tight; I’m about to speed up!”
“Okay!”
No sooner had the words left her mouth than Night Star kicked off, dashing at a speed that was practically a blur to the n*ked eye.
The surveillance team from the Sunset Research Institute, keeping an eye on the two, blinked in shock before scrambling to respond.
“Quick! After them!”
A few members immediately gave chase, with the drones swiftly capturing the silhouettes of the two girls above.
However, in a freakishly short time, they lost track of them.
One of the surveillance agents looked dazed.
“What kind of bizarre speed is this? I don’t recall the target’s info mentioning anything close to this level of movement!”
“Must be that silver-haired girl’s fault. They’ve probably noticed us.”
Then came word from the drone operators—they’d also lost track of the girls, capturing nothing at all.
“What do we do now?”
“Continue searching this area. If we don’t find them, we’ll stake out in the Calligraphy and Painting Entertainment District and wait for them to pop up.”
“Roger!”
The surveillance agents’ instincts told them that that purple-haired woman had a 90% chance of being the prime experimental subject the Sunset Research Institute was after.
Once they located her hideout, they’d be able to mobilize their forces to seize the target.
Time for a POV Shift!
Night Star had dragged the Administrator to a very distant spot, far from where they started.
“Uh-huh, we should be in the clear now.”
Night Star began scanning the crowd, confirming there were no suspicious characters around anymore. The drones had vanished, and every strange gaze had disappeared—tracking thwarted!
Then she turned to the Administrator, concerned that the sudden speed might have unsettled her.
Earlier, Night Star hadn’t pushed herself to full throttle, mainly worried that the Administrator might not take it well.
But upon closer inspection, the Administrator looked perfectly calm, showing no signs of discomfort whatsoever.
“How are you feeling now?”
“Everything’s normal,” the Administrator said flatly.
After all, she had been through numerous tormenting situations, making her body resilient enough to exceed the norm.
Mild discomfort? Pssh, she had long since adapted to that!
“Phew~ that’s a relief.”
Night Star exhaled in relief, sporting a smile.
“Let’s continue our fun! Let me see which entertainment district is closest so we can choose using the proximity principle.”
Night Star realized that her choice paralysis was time-wasting; sticking with the closest place was way better.
Anyway, she didn’t have any special desire to go somewhere in particular, so everything was of equal priority.
In this case, the nearest option would do just fine.
“We’re closest to the Film and Television Entertainment District. Let’s go watch a movie!”
“Sounds good to me!”
With that, Night Star and the Administrator headed for the Film and Television Entertainment District, ready to kick off their day of fun.
Meanwhile, in Yun Chang City…
Night Lan was at the Fish Playing House, binge-watching anime with the Ghost Girl.
After finishing an episode, Eypar couldn’t help but ask, “What’s Night Star up to right now?”
“Getting ready to watch a movie with Big Sister.”
“Huh? Is she from the theater group?”
“Nope, just a Big Sister she met not long ago,” Night Lan answered honestly.
Eypar’s eyes widened in shock.
“Wait, does that mean Night Star’s being whisked away by a suspicious bad woman? No way! I must protect Night Star’s virtue! Let me go be her guard!”
Bam!
Night Lan lightly punched Eypar on the head, even making her little antennae bend.
“Stop thinking such weird stuff! It’s just basic socializing!”
Eypar clutched her head, looking a bit sulky.
“I just want to play in the new city. You promised you’d take me there!”
“Uh-huh… I’ll take you when I have time.”
“You’ve said that multiple times already.”
“Yadda, yadda! I’ll make good on it. Just give me some time!”
“Fine, fine.”
Eypar plopped down on Night Lan’s head, her weightless form not bothering Night Lan in the slightest.
Night Lan treated her like an accessory, not paying much mind.
“So, is there anything fun to do in that city?” Eypar probed.
“Hmm… It’s actually pretty interesting! There are five major areas for entertainment; it’s practically a travel hotspot! I’m not planning on being a homebody over there.”
“Now you’ve got me even more curious.”
Eypar’s desire for curiosity was already intense.
Aside from her usual little mischievous antics, satisfying her curiosity was probably the only thing that truly entertained her.
While Night Star and Night Lan were busy elsewhere, Eypar floated about the city, exploring everything in sight.
When night fell, she would return to the Fish Playing House for a recharge of Night Star or Night Lan’s energy, living like a free-range cat.
After all, she would always be sticking around Night Star and Night Lan.
Wherever they went, Eypar was right there with them, refusing to wander off on her own.
For now, she’d just wait for Night Lan to fulfill her promise and take her to the new city.
Patience was the true philosophy of Eypar’s ghostly existence.
Seeing Eypar quiet down, Night Lan began to ponder other matters.
Like, should she pop over to check on the neighbor?
She still hadn’t mentioned anything about Mo Qianmeng to Mo Tu.
Becoming friends with someone’s cousin was something one should probably mention, right?
Thinking this, Night Lan quickly sprang up and headed to the door, knocking on the neighboring door.
“Mo Tu! Mo Rabbit! Open up!”
After a brief moment, the door swung open, revealing a Black-Haired Man.
“What’s up?”
“My Night Star ran into your cousin in Qi Yuan City!”
“Oh.”
Mo Tu reacted nonchalantly, eyebrows not even raising in surprise over Night Star meeting Mo Qianmeng. It was as if he’d seen it coming all along.
“Wait, you’re not surprised?” Night Star’s expression turned bewildered.
“What’s there to be surprised about? Is this really that shocking?”
“Uh, I guess not…”
