Chapter 29: Xia Yu’s Younger Sister
Happy? With Xia Ling so close, Xia Yu, who lacks friends, wouldn’t admit to being unhappy, but she also felt too shy to respond. So she just blushed and continued playing games, hoping her sister wouldn’t ask any more questions.
Though Xia Yu didn’t answer, Xia Ling could read the truth in her blushing cheeks—she was happy.
No one knows why they get along so naturally or if it’s because they’re sisters or twins.
When family came home at night, Xia Ling had to stop being so close with Xia Yu since everyone still saw her as a boy and thought it inappropriate, even more so if Xia Feng was too close.
While they couldn’t play together while eating, after dinner and a bath, all was fair game. Xia Le went out to play, Xia Hong and Wang Wenjuan watched TV on the second floor, and Xia Yu just sulked in her room.
That’s when Xia Ling appeared with three winter homework books: “Mom and Dad, I’m going to help Second Brother with his studies!” And off she went boldly to Xia Yu’s room.
Hearing this, Xia Hong remembered Xia Yu was back and needed to continue school, but missed six months. He wasn’t sure if she should repeat Grade 4 or join Xia Ling in Grade 5.
But Xia Hong quickly decided Xia Yu should just join Xia Ling in Grade 5. Why? To save money! If she repeated Grade 4, that would mean one extra year of tuition. Instead, Xia Yu can just follow Xia Ling’s pace.
After all, Xia Yu has her older brother Xia Le before her. Even if Xia Yu isn’t the best student, it’s not like the family doesn’t have enough kids already.
But Xia Hong reminded Xia Ling. “Xiao Ling, remember to help your Second Brother catch up with Fifth Grade studies.”
“Got it!”
Even without dad’s reminder, Xia Ling was ready to show off knowledge for half a year. How else could she be a proper sister?
Thinking about Xia Yu calling her “sister” and begging for help with homework made Xia Ling feel secretly happy. She felt more sisterly by the day.
Knock knock knock—
Xia Yu was reading old manga like _Story Collection_ when she heard someone knocking. She got up and opened the door.
To her surprise, there was Xia Ling, holding three homework books and a pencil case.
“Not shy,” Xia Ling barged in, not a bit like a guest.
“So, what do you want?” Xia Yu asked, knowing their parents were still watching TV downstairs.
Hearing Xia Yu called her “Little Ling,” Xia Ling felt a little miffed and pinched Xia Yu’s face—shorter because of age—and grinned. “Younger Sister, why’d you call me?”
