Chapter 290: Feeling the Need to Hit Someone
Guessing that Xia Yu was shy and embarrassed because of her body, Jiang Bin didn’t ask too many questions. He simply reminded her, “There’s a banquet tomorrow night. Xia Yu, you should go with Little Ning. I heard you’re her future secretary.”
“Mm-mm.”
How could Xia Yu possibly refuse? She immediately nodded in agreement… “Phew, I was so nervous just now.”
Back in the big living room on the second floor, Xia Yu couldn’t help but plop down on the soft sofa like a limp noodle. Clearly, she was really exhausted from earlier. “Was it really that dramatic? It’s not like it’s my first time dining with them.”
Jiang Kekai sat next to Xia Yu, resting her little head on her thigh while gently running her fingers through her hair. After all, Xia Yu was her future wife, as per her plans. And Xia Yu didn’t have an ounce of shame either, resting her head on her Big Sister Little Ning’s lap like it was the most natural thing in the world. It wasn’t like it was her first time, hee-hee!
Absolutely shameless! Xia Ling and Jiang Hanhang exchanged knowing glances, rolling their eyes at these two little lovey-dovey girls, before heading to the front to start a movie and putting on their glasses. Yep, the reason they were even here was to watch a movie; turning their living room into a mini theater is a piece of cake for the Jiang family.
Soon after, Jiang Kekai and Xia Yu donned red and blue 3D glasses and cozied up to watch the film together.
However, not long after the movie started, Jiang Bin, Zhang Yunzhi, and Jiang Dong showed up, making Xia Yu feel so awkward that she wanted to slide off her little Ning’s lap. If she got teased, it wouldn’t be fun at all!
But who knew Jiang Kekai wouldn’t let Xia Yu budge? She held Xia Yu tight, smiling at her parents and big brother.
“What are you guys doing here?”
Jiang Bin and Zhang Yunzhi noticed the pair’s cozy position but said nothing. As long as their daughter wasn’t getting bullied, they were happy. And judging by the look on their eldest daughter’s face, she seemed pretty pleased, which was the best news.
“I heard you found a new movie that just came out. We didn’t have anything to do, so we thought we’d check it out. It’s been a while since we’ve all sat together to watch a movie, right?”
After saying that with a smile, Zhang Yunzhi handed Jiang Bin a pair of glasses and they plopped down on the other sofa, making sure not to disturb their daughter and Xia Yu’s intimacy.
Since her parents were also watching the movie, Jiang Kekai felt secure and continued to hug her little cutie, “If you get hungry later, remember to tell me.”
“Mm.”
Xia Yu felt that Little Ning truly understood her. She knew Xia Yu couldn’t eat much due to her nerves earlier, so her belly was still a tad empty.
If only Jiang Bin and Zhang Yunzhi weren’t here, Xia Yu would’ve stealthily asked Little Ning for food. But with them around, even when she was hungry, she didn’t dare say a word.
Stuck in Little Ning’s warm embrace, Xia Yu decided not to struggle. This setup was actually quite comfy, snuggling up to watch the movie.
Yeah, it was frigid outside, so Xia Yu had bundled up in warm pants and socks. There was no way Jiang Kekai would let her sit there like that; of course, she wrapped her in a fluffy blanket too—super comfy!
This movie was supposed to be a comedy, but Xia Yu didn’t think it was funny at all. In fact, she found it rather boring. After yawning a few times, she leaned against Jiang Kekai and dozed off, her little head nestled into the warm blanket, feeling blissful.
Though the movie played on, half of Jiang Kekai’s focus remained on the little cutie next to her. After all, Xia Yu had struggled with some mental health issues in the past, so she couldn’t help but worry.
Given that, she quickly realized Xia Yu had fallen asleep. Looks like the little cutie really didn’t enjoy this movie; otherwise, she wouldn’t have dozed off so early.
Well, if she was asleep, Jiang Kekai wasn’t going to let her sleep uncomfortably. She was concerned that the movie’s sounds might wake Xia Yu. That would be no good.
So, she decided it’d be best to take Xia Yu back to her room to rest. Sleeping here wasn’t the best idea.
Since Xia Yu wasn’t in a deep sleep, the moment Jiang Kekai moved, Xia Yu was groggily awakened. “Little Ning, is the movie over?”
“Nope.”
Jiang Kekai had intended to carry her cute little companion back to bed, but it seemed Xia Yu was a light sleeper. Feeling a bit guilty, she asked, “Are you tired? How about I accompany you back to sleep?”
Xia Yu glanced around and noticed everyone was still watching the movie. Since remaining here felt awkward, going back to a soft, warm bed sounded much better.
“Okay.” That was Xia Yu’s response.
Jiang Kekai affectionately patted her little head, then lifted the blanket and stood up. Addressing everyone around her, she announced, “Xia Yu’s tired, so I’m taking her back to sleep.”
“It’s fine, it’s fine. She must be tired from playing today. If she’s sleepy, she should go back and rest; don’t catch a chill here,” Jiang Bin chuckled.
Jiang Kekai nodded, but when she turned around, she saw Xia Yu trying to stand up. She hurriedly stopped her, “Xia Yu, you don’t have to get up. I’ll carry you back.”
With that, Jiang Kekai decisively pushed Xia Yu back down, wrapping her up in the blanket so that only her head was sticking out. Then she scooped Xia Yu up and headed for the door…
Jiang Kekai was a city girl, well-nourished, and as a girl, she had developed at an earlier age. So, even if she was still considered petite, she had outgrown that phase, and lifting the less developed Xia Yu was a piece of cake.
This action not only surprised Xia Yu but also shocked her parents watching from the side. Their daughter could be so forceful? No wonder she was their daughter!
Before long, Jiang Kekai and Xia Yu’s forms vanished around the corner.
At that moment, Zhang Yunzhi couldn’t help herself and turned to the innocent Jiang Dong, teasing, “Look at your sister! She’s found someone she likes. Why don’t you make an effort to find someone too? Your dad and I won’t arrange any marriage to ruin someone else’s daughter.”

“Mom, this movie isn’t very good. I think Little Ling and I should head back too.”
It was Jiang Hanhang who stood up this time. The promotional hype was so good; she thought the movie would be entertaining, only to find it utterly boring. Returning to her room to mess around with Xia Ling sounded way more fun.

Now that the stares of two older adults were gone, Xia Ling felt freer and casually slung her arm over Jiang Hanhang’s shoulder, grinning, “I’m hungry. Why don’t we go find something to eat?”
“What do you want? I can get someone to make it.”
“Fried chicken, drumsticks! I wanna eat fried chicken!”
“Eating drumsticks this late? You really aren’t worried about gaining weight, huh?”
“Why do you care? If I don’t eat enough, how am I gonna bully you later?”
Jiang Hanhang: “…..”
“Hey, what if I suddenly don’t want to share with you?”
Xia Ling: “….”
In the end, Jiang Hanhang and Xia Ling didn’t head straight back to their rooms. Instead, they took a detour to the kitchen to find some drumsticks.
Luckily, the kitchen had someone on duty 24/7, just in case any guests needed to be entertained. Right now, it was a stroke of luck for Xia Ling and Jiang Hanhang.
“Chef, I’d like fifteen big drumsticks, please!”
The chef, who had been leisurely scrolling through his phone, was startled to see the Second Young Lady herself: “Got it, just a moment.” He hurriedly put down his phone, washed his hands, and started heating up the stove…
Though it was boring, Jiang Hanhang and Xia Ling decided to step into the kitchen and watch the chef fry the drumsticks, enjoying the delicious aroma wafting through the air.
Soon enough, they left the kitchen, gleefully holding two plates of drumsticks. Late-night snacks are the best! They ordered so many chicken legs, especially the big ones, because Xia Ling knew that in that initial state of mind, Xia Yu wouldn’t be able to eat enough, let alone be satisfied.
Xia Ling guessed correctly. On their way back, they encountered Jiang Kekai heading out.
“Sis, it’s so late. What are you up to?”
“Xia Yu said she was hungry, so I’m getting her some late-night snacks.” As she spoke, Jiang Kekai suddenly noticed the two girls’ plates, “Eating that oily stuff? Be careful your faces don’t break out.”
Though it was Xia Ling’s suggestion, the ever-defiant Jiang Hanhang stuck her tongue out at her sister, “Pfft!
Mind your own business! As long as Little Ling and I are enjoying it, that’s all that matters.”
With that, Jiang Hanhang tried to take Xia Ling and leave. It was cold outside, and if they didn’t eat those drumsticks soon, they’d get cold and taste terrible.
“Wait!” Jiang Kekai stopped them, “You can’t finish all that stuff, can you? Take some to my room so Xia Yu can have some too.”
Jiang Hanhang: “….. Sis, I’m not sure what to say. Little Ling and I were already planning to bring these to you and Xia Yu, but the moment you came over, you mentioned how unhealthy it is. Now you want to share it? I really can’t tell if your intentions are genuine or if you’ve gone a little nuts from hanging around Xia Yu too much.”
Meanwhile, Jiang Hanhang couldn’t help but comment, “I’ve heard online that girls in love can be a bit daft. I thought you’d be different, but guess it’s the same for you too, huh?”
Jiang Kekai had unknowingly tightened her fists, her knuckles faintly trembling. At that moment, she had a black line on her face, but she wore a strange smile, “Hanhang, if you want to say something, just say it directly to me. Why make things difficult for yourself?”
