Chapter 71: The Playwright
“Is this really settled?”
The singer looked doubtfully at the scattered black aura, somewhat skeptical.
It just feels too easy.
“Well, at most we’ve only solved half of it,” the announcer added, “that night watcher only scattered it and didn’t fully eliminate it. Once these scattered eclipses fall into areas with ordinary people, they could cause all sorts of disasters. If these disasters happen simultaneously, city order would go haywire. The night watchers wouldn’t be able to handle it fast enough, they can only stop them here.”
The trouble with the Star Eclipses isn’t about their strength.
It’s about the sheer variety of possible combinations in which they can fuse together. There’s no one-hit-k*ll concept, nor any vital points to target.
Hei Yang’s attacks can only scatter them, not instantly obliterate. This is due to the unstable nature of the star eclipses themselves.
Scattered, they swiftly disperse across the city, causing minor to major disasters. The resulting catastrophes are more troublesome than the so-called Star Eclipse Giants.
The night watchers can’t address every disaster as they arise; saving one place means another will suffer.
Star Eclipses inflict much more complex harm on humans than typical physical damage.
After hearing the announcer’s explanation, the singer became worried about others’ safety.
“What should we do?”
“Just watch. These Sunlights of this city are all individuals who can handle themselves. If our troupe were to step in, we’d be overstepping.”
Suddenly, everything changed.
At the moment Black Yang scattered the Star Eclipse Giant, a force of star energy quickly enveloped the area. Everything around became hazy, the ink-like atmosphere overwhelming. It was like stepping into another world.
In mere seconds, this power completely shrouded the scattered star eclipse auras.
**”Cage · Ink World.”**
After a single breath, the surroundings returned to normal.
The only difference was that those gigantic star eclipse auras had vanished entirely.
Mo Qianmeng stood nearby holding a paintbrush. A dark ink painting floated before her, filled with something unsettling, as if flowing with ominous intent.
She had trapped all remaining star eclipses inside her ink world, effectively sealing them for a period.
Later, professionals would deal with them.
“Huh… there’s still some use after all…”
Mo Qianmeng exhaled deeply.
She wanted nothing more than to stick this painting right onto the announcer’s face and see if she still dared say she wasn’t good enough.
Back to the troupe’s perspective.
The troupe leader looked appreciative.
“What a spectacular scene. If they became performers, they’d definitely put on an electrifying show.”
With that, the troupe leader led everyone back to the theater, where all troupe members disappeared without a trace.
Upon returning to the theater, everyone saw Night Star peacefully resting on the legs of the purple-haired woman, remaining silent.
Lianhua and Kong Yu Bai walked over to gaze silently at Night Star sleeping peacefully.
“How is she?”
Book Yao whispered, “Just tired from exhaustion. She’s resting now.”
“That’s good.”
The troupe leader and others glanced at Night Star unharmed, slowly retreating into the shadows.
The announcer shook her head gently and finally vanished within the theater.
Guqiu and Eypar flew around noiselessly, seemingly expressing their joy without a sound.
Night Star slept tranquilly, feeling someone stroke her head, making her even more at ease.
…
When Night Star woke up, she found herself in a dimly lit theater, unsure how much time had passed.
As Night Star slept, Night Lan was also snoozing comfortably at home.
There’s no escaping the side-effects of stars.
Upon waking, Night Star realized she was resting on top of Book Yao’s lap, which explained why it felt so soft and comfortable.
Seeing Night Star wake up, Book Yao gently asked, “Are you awake? If you’re still tired, you can keep resting.”
“Um, I’m fine.”
“Good.”
Night Star sat up, feeling weak and somewhat listless.
Looks like it’s a post-sleep daze.
“Mmm…”
Night Star stretched out her arms, feeling much better.
“So, what’s the situation?”
“If you’re asking about me, it’s already done.”
“Huh?”
“I want to serve you. What do you think?”
“Huh? What does that mean?” Night Star was taken aback.
Book Yao continued, “Because you’re my best friend, and because my boundless life became limited by your presence, naturally I’d stay by your side. Since you’ve filled my emptiness, I should stay by your side for life. Is that okay?”
“Wait, let me think.”
Night Star fell into deep thought.
From what it looked like, her stars should have twisted Book Yao’s eternal and unchanging star.
Seems like it turned into another kind of power, no longer worrying about the eternal aspect, and can blend into normal society.
But the problem is… can Book Yao truly fit into society now?
Even if she regained a normal identity, she might still be disturbed by various forces.
Remember, there are likely not just one organization like the Sunset Research Institute.
Those aware of Book Yao’s untouchable star could be numerous. The Sunset Research Institute may not only exist in Qi Yuan City.
If left outside, Book Yao might get caught by some strange organizations again.
Though she has Ice Lixie, the Sunlight Night Watcher, as a protector, the situation remains precarious.
Thinking it over,
If Book Yao wants to stay by her side, couldn’t she join the troupe too?
She possesses such vast knowledge, brains like tiny libraries. She’s read many books and experienced many eras.
If so, why not make her a member of the troupe?
Hence, as an experiment, Night Star casually inquired, “Um, Book Yao, would you like to join the Rising Sun Theater Group?”
“As long as you are there, I am willing.”
Hearing this, Night Star called out, “Tray Leader!”
The troupe leader soon emerged from the shadows, joining Night Star.
“What does the audience performer wish?”
“Um, well, my friend wants to join the Rising Sun Theater Group. She has a massive reserve of knowledge and might be able to take on the role of playwright for us, write plays and scripts.”
Hearing this, the troupe leader looked at Book Yao beside Night Star, sizing her up.
Book Yao introduced herself enthusiastically.
“I’ve witnessed the glorious era of stage performances, and I’ve enjoyed many plays and shows out of interest. Plus, being well-read on such topics myself, I feel I’m up to the task.”
“Given this, I approve. From now on, your code name in the troupe will be **‘Playwright.’** Please do your job well.”
“Thank you for this opportunity.”
Having decided this, the troupe leader retreated back to the shadows.
Book Yao exhaled slightly and began thinking.
Night Star smiled happily for her, grinning adorably.
“This is great! The Tray Leader agreed to let you join the troupe!”
“Yeah, thanks to you.”
As Book Yao said this, she paused in her deep thoughts.
For some reason, she felt she had heard the name ‘Rising Sun Theater Group’ somewhere before.
Not sure where, though.
