Chapter 30: Dumb Little Sister Xia Yu
“Si…Sis…sister~”
Xia Yu had her face pinched by Xia Ling, which hurt so much that she had to play along for now. She definitely didn’t want her little face all swollen up.
When Xia Ling finally heard Xia Yu call her “sister” again, she felt satisfied and let go of Xia Yu with a sigh of relief. “That’s better. You’re making the right choice. Remember to keep calling me ‘sister,’ okay?”
“Yes, sis~” Xia Yu replied pitifully, holding her sore cheek with one hand.
…
Xia Yu’s room wasn’t very soundproof, especially since she and Xia Ling were talking near the door. As expected, their voices carried out through the open door.
Xia Hong and Wang Wenjuan, who were watching TV in the living room, didn’t suspect anything odd. They just thought Xia Ling was forcing Xia Yu to play games with her. Xia Yu really looked like a proper younger sister in this situation.
…
Seeing Xia Ling place three winter break homework books on her desk, Xia Yu couldn’t help but ask again, “Sis, why did you bring them over here?”
“Sit down, I’ll teach you how to do them~” Xia Ling rolled her eyes at Xia Yu, thinking that her sister must have completely lost her mind after only half a year away from school.
“Teach me?” Xia Yu flipped through the three homework books and noticed they were for the fifth grade. Then she answered frankly, “Um… I don’t know how.”
“You wouldn’t know, would you, dumb sister? Let me help you. With school starting soon, you’ll be going to fifth grade with me,” Xia Ling said while pushing Xia Yu into the chair. She herself sat on Xia Yu’s bed, since they were almost touching anyway.
Xia Yu nodded, slightly understanding. She didn’t want to repeat a grade either. It seemed kind of embarrassing. So she had no complaints about going straight to fifth grade.
So Xia Yu opened her old favorite subject, math, and realized she couldn’t remember a thing. There were so many unfamiliar topics she had never seen before in the homework book…
Seeing Xia Yu’s confusion, Xia Ling immediately pulled out a pen from her pocket. “Don’t worry, sister. Just write what you can. If there’s anything you don’t understand, ask me~”
With a cheerful smile, Xia Ling flopped onto Xia Yu’s bed to read the same magazine that Xia Yu had been looking at. She even patted herself on the back for being so clever. Getting Xia Yu to do her homework for free—she wouldn’t have to write any!
However, Xia Ling might have gotten ahead of herself. Soon enough, Xia Yu’s clear voice broke through the quiet room, “Sis, how do you solve this problem?”
At first, Xia Ling was quite patient, teaching Xia Yu with a sense of accomplishment.
But Xia Yu kept asking questions, and before long, Xia Ling was pulled back from her storybook-induced daze. Frustrated, Xia Ling smacked Xia Yu’s head playfully and scolded her, “Sis is getting tired of your questions! Can’t you learn something new? Why do you always ask me?”
