Chapter 300

### Chapter 74: Scriptwriting

As time ticked away, Night Star and Book Yao roamed around the entertainment districts all day until the sun dipped below the horizon.

“Hmm… Does Book Yao still want to read? Joining the theater group kinda means you can’t keep being a librarian, right?”

“Seems like it. If I keep going to the library, I might bring disaster to unsuspecting bookworms. I just can’t stick around there anymore.”

Book Yao looked a bit disappointed. She had thought she could finish all the books, but now she had to leave before even getting halfway.

Plus, she couldn’t just pop up at the library anytime. Even though the Sunset Research Institute was toast, one could never be too careful. Who knows if there’s a meaner organization lurking around than the Sunset bunch?

You know, those shadowy groups hiding in the dark? They’re the real troublemakers.

To avoid being stalked by such characters, Book Yao had to dodge any crowded places and hang out at the absolutely safe Rising Sun Theater instead.

Night Star shrugged nonchalantly. “Well, I think we can still hit the library! The Rising Sun Theater has this magical door that leads anywhere! If you wanna read, I’ll tag along. And safety? Just borrow the books! How does that sound?”

“Not a bad idea at all.”

Just then, Night Star suddenly remembered something.

“Speaking of which, the weekend’s coming up, meaning it’s time for the theater group’s performance!”

“Do I have to do anything?”

Book Yao seemed eager to show off her worth.

“Can you whip up a script? Our theater group has decided to head in the direction of stage plays, and we’ll need tons of scripts! But it’s so hard to think of something that fits our style! When I first tried writing a script, I barely managed to produce something barely passable!”

“A script, huh? Let me give it a shot! I’ve read tons of books, and my brain’s stuffed with stories. Plus, I lived through the golden age of stage performances, so I know what’ll work for you! Trust me, I’ll deliver the best script ever!”

Night Star cheered, waving her hands in excitement. “Yay! No more brain freezes trying to come up with a script! Thank goodness we’ve got you as the playwright; I’d rather sit back and watch the show!”

Night Star had braced herself to be the one who’d have to write cheesy scripts, but now that Book Yao was here, she could just slack off. Life is good!

……

Yun Chang City.

The Announcer stepped out of the theater, swapping out of her costume back to her usual outfit.

Mo Tu stood there, feeling a mix of emotions and bewilderment.

“So, it’s really true: switching to Announcer means I turn into a Loli, and only shedding the theater identity turns me back? This feels kinda like transformation? What a ridiculous concept!”

Mo Tu sighed, resigning himself to the situation.

He had guessed this might happen. After all, going to ask the neighboring Black-Haired Loli to sort this out would only lead to more trouble.

Sure, having this little secret might be a tad embarrassing, but setting that aside, it wasn’t half bad!

After all, it gave him an extra identity to play with! No longer just the Night Watcher!

Thinking of it that way, hey, this flexibility isn’t too shabby.

But wouldn’t it be great if he didn’t have to turn into a Loli?

Every time that Loli called him “Mo Rabbit,” it felt like he was having a mini heart attack—so exhausting!

In the end, he just hadn’t fully adjusted yet.

Shaking his head, Mo Tu tried to throw aside all those tangled thoughts and retreated back to his room.

Suddenly, a thought hit him.

“Speaking of which, if all goes as expected, Night Lan will be heading to the capital headquarters. I bet some really interesting stuff will go down!”

The more he considered it, the more excited he became.

After all, that place was crawling with quirky characters. What kind of sparks would fly?

Mo Tu figured he could swing by to see the chaos for himself.

And hey, as an Announcer, he might even get to join in on the fun and take the entertainment to another level!

With that thought, being a “Mo Rabbit” might not be so bad after all.

Of course, that acceptance only holds as long as this secret stays under wraps.

Otherwise, Mo Tu might just have to draw up a plan for world domination!

……

As time passed and the weekend approached, the moment of performance loomed ever closer.

The playwright of the Rising Sun Theater successfully created a script, ready for the group leader and others to familiarize themselves and practice.

The quality of the script was well-received by all the theater members, and they were ready to dive in.

Night Star and Book Yao were at the front row, checking out the members’ rehearsals, eager to spot any flaws.

If something went awry, as an audience member, Night Star, and as the playwright, Book Yao could point it out right away and make adjustments in advance.

Night Star watched the rehearsal on stage, thoroughly entertained.

“Hmm~ This is so fun! Truly the mark of a playwright, your scriptwriting skills are on another level!”

“Just a result of my massive reading habit! When you read a lot, you build up bizarre and fun little stories in your head. Writing scripts? Just need a little practice and boom, I can do it!”

Was Book Yao being humble or just showing off? She had this masterful vibe, proving that reading really does change a person.

“Super impressive!”

Back on stage, the theater members finished their practice, and the curtain fell.

Night Star clapped enthusiastically, beaming from ear to ear. “Everyone’s acting was as consistently ‘normal’ as ever! That rehearsal was simply amazing!”

Book Yao nodded in agreement.

“Absolutely! It’s incredible how well everyone portrayed their characters!”

Before crafting the script, Book Yao had asked Night Star for a brief rundown of the theater members, which allowed her to design characters based on that and weave a story together.

And just like that, she had a script!

With her vast reading experience, she wasn’t lacking in material or inspiration, nor did she deal with generational gaps; combining modern elements to create a story the contemporary audience could enjoy was just a walk in the park.

The group leader looked at Book Yao, nodding in approval of her abilities.

“Thank you for your contributions to the theater; as a playwright, you are quite competent.”

“Thank you for the compliment, Group Leader.”

Night Star smiled at the scene, feeling quite pleased.

It looked like the theater group didn’t reject Book Yao, and she didn’t feel like an oddball among them—things were harmonious!

Speaking of which, even though Book Yao wasn’t a Star Eclipse, she managed to fit right into this vibe, which was simply amazing.

Perhaps her strong mental fortitude gives her a sort of immunity to the Star Eclipse aura?

But did the Wish Machine really gobble up half of her mental energy? Seems like a bit much!

Night Star carefully sensed the power within her and found no trace of such mental energy. Everything felt just the same, no significant changes.

Alrighty then, must be the Wish Machine’s doing.

After all, the Wish costs she had asked for were all left for her, and now there was nothing left at all.

Awww, talk about a heartbreak!
