Chapter 300: My Treat
As soon as they stepped out of the door, the group of girls consisting of Jiang Kekai and others bumped into Jiang Bin who had just returned.
At this point, Jiang Bin had no idea what was going on. He rushed back immediately after hearing the news. “How’s Grandpa doing?” he asked anxiously. “Nothing’s wrong,” replied Jiang Kekai somewhat unhappily. “Grandpa is very energetic right now; there’s no need to worry.”
Hearing that, Jiang Bin finally relaxed. “That’s good, that’s really good, with nothing wrong everything’s fine.”
“Don’t be too happy yet. Grandpa isn’t very happy right now; it might be about the Lin family. When you go in, be careful. Uncle is still inside, and there are a lot more people there as well.”
“Okay.”
Next, Jiang Bin looked at Xia Yu, dressed in men’s clothing and looking quite upset, his voice soft like he spoke to Jiang Kekai. “What happened? That Jiang Dong wasn’t talking nicely, so I’ve already taught him a lesson.”
It was true. In his eyes, Xia Yu should marry his first daughter, Jiang Kekai, now that this situation had unfolded. So he wanted to build a good image for the future daughter-in-law, being gentle with her.
Jiang Bin’s concern for Xia Yu was quite unexpected—for Xia Yu, who felt honored, and especially for Jjiang Hanhang, who felt jealous. She thought her affection from home was being taken away by Xia Yu. How sour it made her feel.
But upon realizing that Xia Yu would eventually marry her older sister, she would have to call her father “dad.” It’s as if her father had gotten an additional daughter. Oh, how much more sour that made her feel.
What could she do? Xia Yu took her sister’s love and even her father away; Jjiang Hanhang didn’t know what to think.
Gradually, she squeezed Xia Ling’s small hand tighter and tighter, showing her displeasure.
But despite all that, she couldn’t bring herself to dislike Xia Yu.
It took Xia Yu a while to react and realize the situation. Still, she remained clueless about how to face Jiang Bin, a grown-up.
In the end, it was Jiang Kekai who came to her rescue. “Dad, why don’t you go check on Grandpa first? You know Xiao Yu’s shy, we can chat another time.”
“Alright. Just don’t stray too far. We’ll eat together when I’m done.”
Jiang Bin patted Xia Yu’s head, then patted little daughter Jiang Hanhang’s head, before heading towards the ward where Jiang Heng was staying.
Inside the ward, the relatives knew that Jiang Heng liked hearing certain things, so they tried their best to flatter him—telling him Jiang Bin was wrong here, and Jiang Kekai was wrong there; you weren’t wrong…
This only reinforced Jiang Heng’s conviction that Jiang Bin and Jiang Kekai were wrong and everyone else was right, all because they were swayed by Xia Yu.
But at the worst possible moment, Jiang Bin showed up, saying, “Dad, how are you?”
“Are you still seeing me as your dad?”
After settling down, Jiang Heng suddenly got excited again, slapping the bedside rail angrily and continuing, “Why didn’t you answer Tao’s call? Are you waiting for me to d*e so you can inherit the whole Jiang family?”
“No…No…”
Even though Jiang Kekai had warned him, Jiang Bin never expected his father to be so fiery tempered—frightening him. “I was in a meeting. You must also know that answering calls during meetings is considered very inappropriate, right?”
“Meetings? I know you went to the capital city. How did it go? Did that meeting go smoothly without us stopping you? How many families agreed to your terms?”
“Father, please don’t meddle in this.”
The sudden aggression from his father made Jiang Bin feel helpless—it had only been a short while since he left Demon City.
Just as the relatives were about to intervene, he said, “Brother Bin, your father has seen a lot in the business world, so listen to what he says.”
Agree! Look how he looks now; do you want to anger him over the Lin family? He’s your only father.
“Also, Kekai, talk to her. Keep her away from that girl named Xia Yu. Marriages are serious matters. Find someone suitable like a noble. I know someone nice. And…”
“Enough!”
Tired of the rambling, Jiang Bin snapped. His father could lecture him, but not everyone deserved that privilege.
Looking around at those relatives, he sternly stated, “You can come see my father, but if you try to meddle in my family affairs, remember the consequences.”
“Don’t get carried away.”
He ignored the relative and continued, “Now get out, or I’ll make you bankrupt.”
The woman felt a surge of resentment towards Jiang Heng, but he barely gave her a glance.
Yes, Jiang Heng stood with his eldest son. No one could interfere casually.
Jiang Heng’s stance was clear; the relative obediently left the ward. The others followed silently.
Once the last relative left and the door closed, Jiang Bin explained, “Kekai owes the Lin family a favor. She wants to repay it now. If word gets out through the remaining connections, it’ll be bad for her. Trust is essential; without trust, she won’t have allies, even if she’s strong.”
“Why does she owe them? Because of Xia Yu, right? Let Xia Yu pay back then. Why involve Kekai?”
Jiang Bin sighed, “Xia Yu was unconscious and unaware of the situation; Kekai took responsibility.”
“That brat bewitched Kekai. Let her give up on Xia Yu forever so they’re square.”
“That’s…hard.”
“Why?”
“She likes him. Now, she stays with him. This past year, there’s been no trouble. Ask Kekai if you’re unsure.”
Frustrated, Jiang Heng looked at Jiang Bin, “You two visited me to provoke me. There are plenty of things to do. Go back and work, I’m fine.”
Jiang Bin smiled, “Rest well then.”
Watching Jiang Bin leave smoothly, Jiang Tao, standing beside the bed, couldn’t be happier. “Dad, you planning to let the Lin family off? And what about Kekai and Xia Yu?”
“If we don’t, her trust will suffer. Compared to this trivial Lin family, my granddaughter’s trust matters more to me. As for her and Xia Yu, I won’t approve anything. I’m tired, go do your work.”
Hearing that, Jiang Tao, scowled and left the room with a heavy heart. Bam!
The door slammed shut, making a loud noise. This was Jiang Tao asserting his disapproval.
Without the Lin family out of the picture, once rumors spread, other families would help restore them. How would he replace their assets?
Angrier than ever, Jiang Tao walked towards a different corner, where he met Jiang Heng waiting.
Seeing his brother’s grim face, Jiang Bin decided to be straightforward. “Stop. Remember our dad’s words. You handle external growth, I deal with internal. Why do you keep meddling in my affairs?”
“For Jiang’s future, I had to. Without mercenaries, we wouldn’t be ranked fifth in the capital,” Jiang Tao replied, lighting a cigarette despite not being allowed in the hospital.
“Your methods are no good.”
“Not enough ruthlessness. In our line, brutality is key.”
Paying a quick pat on his brother’s shoulder, Jiang Tao left the scene, cigarette in hand, defying hospital rules.
Knowing Jiang Tao wouldn’t listen anyway, Jiang Bin called his wife, Yunzhi. “All settled?”
“Yes. How is dad?”
“He’s fine. My treat at Ai Li tonight. Join us.”
“Will take twenty minutes.”
After hanging up, Jiang Bin called Jiang Kekai. “Where are you now?”
Hearing they were about to eat, Jiang Kekai and the group stayed in the car, avoiding cold weather. Therefore, they were easy to find.
The convoy started again, heading to Ai Li for a meal.
And Jiang Bin also remembered the diligent bodyguards. “Thank you all for your hard work. Tonight is on me. Just no alcohol.”
