Chapter 76: Maximum Buzz
Qi Yuan City.
The weekend has arrived.
It’s showtime for the Rising Sun Theater Group!
With new orders from the Night Watcher Headquarters, there’s nothing to fear now.
Night Star hums a little tune while wandering around the theater, accompanied by a pigeon and a ghost girl who look very much like her lackeys.
Speaking of which, these two have developed quite a knack for squabbling lately, bickering endlessly whenever Night Star is out of sight.
Honestly, Night Star can’t figure out why they even argue; it must be some sort of mental misfire.
Guqiu flutters behind Night Star, her little bean-like eyes fixed on the ghost girl, radiating a hint of hostility.
“Goo! Silly ghost, why are you always hanging around the theater? Don’t you have a home?”
“Roast pigeon, you should know that wherever the audience performer is, that’s my home! It’s perfectly normal to hang out in the theater!”
“Goo! Dumb ghost, you aren’t even a member of the theater or part of the crowd, and yet you cling to the theater like a bad smell! I feel embarrassed for you.”
“Stewed soup pigeon, you’re just a prop for the theater too, yet you act all high and mighty, don’t get too cocky, young pigeon!”
“Goo, at least I’m a prop for the theater, but what are you? I’m in this performance too! Can you say the same?”
“Hmph~ You’re just playing a background role in the stage play; what’s there to be proud of? I’m not jealous at all.”
Eypar turns away, seemingly sulking. Looks like she’s genuinely envious.
Seeing this, Guqiu proudly lifts her head.
“Goo, silly ghost, I have way more wins than you.”
“No way!”
Eypar floats over to Night Star, wearing a pitiful and wronged expression.
“Night Star, this pigeon is bullying me!”
Night Star shoots her a glance, exasperated: “Getting bullied by a pigeon? That’s just sad.”
“She’s not just any pigeon! She’s a talking pigeon!”
“Well, she’s still a pigeon, right? Your IQ couldn’t have deteriorated to the point where you can’t outsmart a pigeon, could it? Guqiu is just a star eclipse pigeon with low intelligence. She’s probably weaker than you!”
“She’s competing for my attention! If we were in ancient times, this would be a bloody palace drama!”
“I think your feud would land you in the outhouse in ancient times, but you’d be happy about it. How embarrassing.”
Night Star decides to ignore the two squabbling mascots.
She looks towards the stage.
Book Yao is busy discussing the stage play business with a bunch of theater members.
In terms of qualifications, Book Yao probably has a higher rank than the group leader, giving off such a grounded vibe.
Even though she just joined the theater, she quickly feels like one of the team, making friends with the others like it’s nobody’s business.
Book Yao probably wants to make friends with the group leader and the others.
Plus, with her extensive knowledge on almost any topic, she’s a treasure trove of information.
For example, when it comes to music, she’s read quite a bit on the subject, and conversations with Kong Yu Bai last for ages, making her seem like an industry insider. She quickly became chummy with the singer too!
And the singer is easygoing, so bonding with her isn’t difficult at all.
Next up is Lianhua.
Recently, Night Star has seen Book Yao and Lianhua team up to create a puppet show.
With Book Yao’s rich imagination crafting stories and Lianhua adapting it into a puppet play, the two get along harmoniously without any worries about workplace pressure.
Then there’s the group leader and others; Night Star didn’t expect Book Yao to hit it off with them so quickly.
Covering topics such as “magic performances,” “etiquette,” and “deception techniques,” Book Yao can talk a mile a minute on each. Being from an era when stage performances were all the rage, she naturally has much more to bond over, like a geriatric group reminiscing about the good ol’ days!
This gives Night Star the illusion that Book Yao is the backbone of the theater and she’s just here to fill in the gaps.
“Hmm~ As expected of Book Yao, she’s done things I can’t, just so admirable!”
Who could refuse a well-informed Big Sister like her?
Not that Night Star would ever dare.
Just then, Night Star sees the group leader waving at her.
Now that she thinks about it, it seems the departure time is approaching.
Night Star leaves Guqiu and Eypar behind and heads for the stage.
“Group Leader? Ready to head out?”
“Yes, please get prepared.”
“I’m ready! I can head out anytime.”
At that moment, Kong Yu Bai walks over, looking a bit regretful.
“Why isn’t the audience performer involved in this drama? The playwright’s script is so good! With the audience performer added, it would be even more spectacular.”
“Well~ let’s just let me slack off this time. You all perform better anyway, and if I go on stage, I won’t get to see your performances.”
For Night Star, being on stage once in a while is enough.
If she had to perform every time, it would totally go against her slacker principles.
She just needs to shield the theater members from star eclipse pollution from backstage.
She’s a slacker audience performer, not a professional onstage performer.
“Ready to depart!”
And just like that, the entire Rising Sun Theater Group sets off.
Meanwhile, at the Night Watcher Base…
In the command room, Hei Yang and the others await news.
It’s the weekend, so hopefully, the Rising Sun Theater Group will put on a show.
Headquarters has just issued new orders, reclassifying the Rising Sun Theater Group as a non-threatening organization, as if giving them some sort of business license.
Now that the Rising Sun Theater Group is public performing, it’s no longer illegal.
But even so, the Night Watchers need to stay observant, maybe even send someone to the scene as an audience to check things out.
Basic protocol—can’t be caught slacking.
Just at that moment, a patrolling Night Watcher reports that they’ve spotted the Rising Sun Theater Group making their way toward the food and entertainment district, probably heading for the stage there.
“The food and entertainment district, huh? Perfect! We can eat while watching their performance; sounds like a win-win!”
Hei Yang beams with a sunshiny smile, clearly ready to check it out in person.
Beside him, Ice Lixie and Mo Qianmeng seem to have the same idea.
Ice Lixie wants to see how Book Yao is doing, and Mo Qianmeng is looking to find the audience performer to ask about someone’s black history. They all have their own agendas.
“Well, no time to waste! Let’s go! It’s been ages since I’ve seen a performance!”
And so, the three Sunlight Night Watchers decide to head to the scene to cheer on the Rising Sun Theater Group.
In other words, it’s maximum buzz time.
On the other side.
Night Star and the others arrive at the food and entertainment district and quickly locate the stage.
Word has it this place is generally known for holding competitive eating contests, and it’s perfectly situated in a high-traffic area.
Hosting a performance here will definitely catch the attention of many foodies. What better way to enjoy a show with a side of snacks!
Of course, all this hinges on whether the Gentleman permits such behavior.
Surely it’s within the bounds of etiquette, right?
