Chapter 80: Boring, I Want to See Rivers of bl**d
Night Lan had no impression of the capital.
Although it was the center of the country, she had only heard about it and never really took the time to learn more.
Now that she was on her way there, she felt a bit of anticipation.
They say everything there is top-notch, and the city is home to many influential figures.
When you think about it, being the capital is quite impressive.
If this were before, Night Lan would’ve never thought she’d have a chance to go there; it was too far out.
But now, due to her new status, she actually gets to go.
Isn’t life just a little bittersweet?
She wondered what’ll happen when she arrives there.
Night Lan didn’t know, causing her to feel a bit anxious inside.
There are lots of familiar faces in Cloud Chang City, but going to the capital means parting with them all.
She won’t see White Paint, White Fish, or anyone else. She’d be alone if she goes there.
“Gulp…”
Night Lan was deep in thought, pondering about her journey to the capital.
She was thinking about when to leave, considering timing very carefully.
Even though the Leader gave her free rein whenever she could go, she couldn’t delay too much; it would look rude otherwise.
But then, what’s the best time to leave?
Tomorrow? The day after?
Just as Night Lan was pondering, her phone rang, indicating someone was trying to get in touch with her.
When she looked at who contacted her, she knew they wanted her to come up to the rooftop right away.
She headed to the rooftop.
Night Lan scanned around and soon spotted the target.
A black-haired man was leaning against the railing, none other than Mo Tu.
Mo Tu sensed Night Lan’s arrival and turned his head, smiling.
“You finally showed up.”
“Hmm, why do I get the feeling we are like undercover agents meeting on the roof?”
“Don’t be silly. What undercover? I am loyal to the Night Watchers, dedicating my future to the nation. There’s no such thing as being an undercover agent.”
“Oh right, right, right. Guess I’m not an undercover agent either.”
Then the dual-spy super agents exchanged glances and started chatting.
Mo Tu initiated the conversation.
“About your telling Mo Qianmeng my secret, I won’t hold that against you. I heard you’re heading to the capital now?”
“Hmph~ I didn’t tell everything. Just three words. Who made you always bully her? I’m here to bring justice to the people!”
After saying that, Night Lan changed the subject to address Mo Tu’s next query.
“I definitely have to go to the capital, even the big boss has said so. Refusing would just be too rude. However, I don’t know the situation there, and I don’t have reliable friends nearby, which makes me feel a little uneasy.”
Night Lan softly sighed, indeed quite uneasy.
It was precisely because she had many trustworthy friends around her that she felt braver.
The likes of White Fish, Zero Meow surrounding her, and Lotus Flower in Night Star’s circle—they were the pillars supporting her heart.
Yet, with Night Lan set to leave Cloud Chang City for an unknown new city, she won’t be able to bring any friends along.
She’ll be alone when she gets there. That’s kind of sad.
Even though Night Star might be accompanied by troupe members, they won’t provide her the same comfort.
Hearing Night Lan’s worries, Mo Tu couldn’t help but chuckle sarcastically.
“You’re pretty good at making friends, right? When you arrive in a new place, just make new ones. Everyone will seek you out because of your cute face, as long as you grab the opportunity.”
“What? You think making friends is easy? I have social anxiety!”
Her eyes were filled with disbelief.
She wasn’t some party girl surrounded by complex relationships; socially challenging as she was, she’d rather avoid troubles altogether.
She wouldn’t engage unless genuinely interested.
Given that, she doubted if she could make any friends in the first place.
However, Mo Tu clearly disagreed.
“Really? I think you have excellent social skills, radiating a dazzling charm. You just need to take initiative and you might become the leader in the capital in no time!”
“Ouch—”
Night Lan stared dumbfoundedly, inhaling sharply.
She never expected Mo Tu, a mere subordinate, to utter something so audacious.
Is that insubordination?
He truly lived up to his reputation.
Night Lan slightly shook her head.
“Forget it, I’ll meet the leader, listen to what he has to say, and head back. After all, I’m a stranger in the capital. Might as well return to mingle with my friends early.”
Exhibiting her lethargic personality, she was all about doing the deed and leaving, not bothering with anything else.
The capital might have its allure, but nothing beats hanging out with friends.
Cloud Chang’s little Lolis were waiting for her hugs!
Wait, no, she hasn’t departed yet.
Shaking off her random thoughts, Night Lan began asking a serious question.
“Speaking of which, Mo Tu, how’s the situation in the capital? Anything I should watch out for? Any advice?”
Night Lan knew zilch about the capital and needed some insider info.
And there was no better source than Mo Tu.
He seemed to have been transferred from there and must surely know more about it than online searches.
Plus, knowing her secrets, he could guess what crucial details she needed.
Mo Tu pondered for a bit.
“Well, the capital’s situation is actually quite complex.”
“How so?”
“It’s the largest city in the whole country. The saying ‘the bigger the tree, the more birds’ applies. It’s full of unusual characters.”
“Is that so?” Night Lan tilted her head, somewhat confused.
“Yeah, it sure is. Although the Night Watcher’s strength there is top-notch overall, the odd forces and overpowered individuals are plentiful. The underhanded fights are intense—you wouldn’t want to be entangled in any of that.”
“Wow! Sounds rather complicated.”
Night Lan was already contemplating calling it quits.
Maybe she shouldn’t head to the capital and let the Leader come to her in Cloud Chang instead.
Mo Tu noticed Night Lan’s expression and could tell she was backing down.
This chicken-hearted girl can be so timid sometimes.
Lazy, dim-witted, and cowardly—it was Night Lan through and through, except when the chips were down.
“Chicken out? Your entire troupe backs you up! If anyone bullies you there, just call them out. You’ve got a solid support system that no one could fathom. Plus, you’re not weak yourself, are you?”
Mo Tu felt like he was babysitting this kid, truly embracing his role of nursemaid.
With the powerful Stars at his disposal, yet acting like a child’s caretaker, could this be destiny?
Still, he enjoyed it immensely.
The joy she brought him was perhaps his reason for embracing this burden.
Realizing his words, Night Lan came to her senses.
“Right, I’m so strong. Why should I chicken out? I’ll charge right in!”
“Good to hear that. If you’re unhappy, go ahead and stir up some chaos in the capital!”
Boring everyday life calls for some action.
He wants to see “bl**d and gore”!
