### Chapter 1: Get Ready to Go
In the guest room of the base.
Night Lan was explaining her decision to Xiao Jin.
“Boss, I’ve decided on when to head to headquarters—it’s tomorrow. What do you think?”
“Tomorrow? So soon? I thought you’d drag your feet for ages.”
Xiao Jin was somewhat taken aback.
Given his understanding of Night Lan, he had expected her to procrastinate until she forgot about it.
At minimum, Xiao Jin had planned to bring up the matter again next week since she didn’t seem urgent.
Night Lan replied sheepishly, “After all, it’s the Leader calling me. Even if they gave me time to decide, waiting too long feels wrong. So it’s better to be quick and get it over with. Once it’s done, I can rush back sooner.”
Mostly, she was emboldened by Mo Tu’s guidance. Despite the complex situation there, it wouldn’t be right to traumatize a little loli like her. If someone truly had ill intentions or tried to bully her, well, there were plenty of bodyguards around.
Xiao Jin nodded approvingly, “Okay, I’ll arrange it right away. Get ready—tomorrow morning is when you leave.”
“Ugh, thanks Boss!”
With that, Night Lan departed from Xiao Jin. Not long after, a black-haired man walked in—Mo Tu.
Mo Tu sat across from Xiao Jin, a smile plastered on his face.
“You don’t seem eager for her to go to headquarters. Worried about her safety?”
Xiao Jin sighed lightly.
“Possibly, yeah. Being such a secret of Yun Chang City, sending her off like this is worrisome. Headquarters might not give her the same leniency as we do.”
“Makes sense, the management there is a mess. Some aren’t even here to uphold national order—they’re just incompetent cronies pushed through.”
The Night Watcher organization, being a massive state law enforcement agency, naturally wasn’t too pure; there’s a lot of political baggage involved. These people, while not powerful, are still untouchable.
Night Lan’s identity remains classified—there mustn’t be any distinguishing treatment. Giving an unassuming little loli a special status isn’t ideal. If these people pay attention to her, it’s trouble. Especially if they learn she has a [Wish Machine] star; things could get really ugly.
So Xiao Jin felt it wiser to keep her in a small city where she can grow safely, away from those threats.
“I hope the Leader handles everything.”
“Don’t worry, do you think he’d make a blunder? That’s unnecessary concern.”
“You’re right, I was overthinking.”
Changing the subject, Xiao Jin asked, “By the way, aren’t you thinking of returning to headquarters? Coming from there, it’s bound to have some nostalgia.”
“Total nonsense. Involvement there inevitably leads to trouble. I never liked staying there. Headquarters be damned.”
Even Mo Tu doesn’t want to tangle with the complex disputes. Those behind-the-scenes power struggles are tiresome and uninteresting. It’s more fun to take it easy in a small town.
If it weren’t for Night Lan’s impending trip, Mo Tu probably wouldn’t mention it at all.
Then, another person entered the guest room—Wang Chao.
“I heard you mentioning headquarters just now, what’s going on?”
“The Leader wants to see Night Lan, so she got called in.” Xiao Jin responded briefly.
Hearing this, Wang Chao was shocked.
“Son of a g*n, that place is no place for a simple, innocent loli. Why doesn’t the Leader come himself?”
Both Xiao Jin and Mo Tu were speechless.
“Do you have any idea what you’re saying? Making a big organization’s leader head to a small city to meet one person? Even an idiot would know that’s weird.”
Wang Chao pondered hard.
“It’s true, but is it safe for Night Lan to go alone? Someone might take advantage of her?”
Wang Chao voiced his worries, like an overprotective father checking if his daughter is okay.
Regardless, Night Lan is one of their own, especially with her unique status, which triggers quite the protective instincts.
Xiao Jin and Mo Tu exchanged disbelieving glances.
Seeing this, Wang Chao cleared his throat awkwardly.
“Cough, anyway, I trust the Leader to manage it.” Wang Chao continued, “But I think having a bit of insurance will help. Happens I know a strong individual there. She can be Night Lan’s bodyguard.”
“Who?” Xiao Jin asked, puzzled.
“Not your concern, just a trustworthy person.”
Wang Chao seemed reluctant to divulge. There must be a secret.
Mo Tu silently divined, quickly figuring out who it was, smiling joyously.
Just then, Wang Chao caught Mo Tu’s amused look, realizing he knew something.
“Mo Tu, considering we’re colleagues, please don’t embarrass me too much.” Wang Chao stated seriously.
“Got it, no worries, I won’t say anything.”
“That’s good. As long as you keep quiet, you’re still a brother to me.”
“Hahaha, no need for that.”
Xiao Jin watched this scene, sighing and shaking his head.
…
The next morning.
After sleeping well last night with Night Star, Night Lan headed to the Night Watcher base, prepared to travel to the capital headquarters.
Before heading to the guest room, she said goodbye to the little lolis.
Now she just needed Xiao Jin to set everything up.
Meeting Xiao Jin, Night Star asked curiously, “Boss, I’m ready. When do we leave?”
“Whenever you’re ready. If you want to go now, you can depart immediately,” Xiao Jin replied.
“Let’s go now.”
Instantly, Xiao Jin contacted the other Night Watchers accompanying her. Most were recent recruits as Star Holders; their potential was high, growing faster at headquarters.
Mixing among them, Night Lan had zero awkwardness.
Reaching the private airport, Xiao Jin had Night Lan blend in among the group, treating them equally.
“Your potential is high, but you still need growth. By sending you to headquarters, I aim to mold you into independent Night Watchers, ready to shoulder heavy responsibilities. Are you prepared?”
“We are!”
The young crowd stood solemnly, accepting guidance from their leader. Meeting someone of his stature is a huge honor. However, they didn’t realize Night Lan had been hobnobbing with such influential figures for ages.
She just wanted to hurry up and get on the plane.
