Chapter 307

### Chapter 307: No Drinking Allowed!

It might have been because everyone had come back, so dinner tonight was actually pretty good—there was chicken, duck, and even fish.

While it couldn’t rival a top chef’s cooking, eating this rustic fare was an experience in itself, which was just fine for Lin Jie, Jiang Kekai, and Jiang Hanhang.

As they ate, Jiang Kekai noticed her two elders frequently checking her out. Oh well, the elder couple was Xia Yu and Xia Ling’s grandparents, after all; she figured it wasn’t worth making an issue out of it.

Before long, Xia Yu and Xia Ling’s grandma couldn’t hold back any longer; she turned to Jiang Kekai with curiosity and asked, “Xiao Ning, we know about you and Xiao Yu. But you’re both still young, some things need more serious consideration.”

“Yeah, I’ve thought it through.”

“Did your family agree?”

Grandpa Xia Yu and Xia Ling chimed in. He’d seen enough life when he was younger to know better now. He understood the difference between the Xia family and the Jiang family.

“They agreed.”

As she said that, Jiang Kekai reached over and put another piece of meat on Xia Yu’s plate. It was almost instinctive; after all, it had been a year since they’ve known each other.

Seeing Jiang Kekai’s determination, the elderly couple exchanged glances—they were at a loss for words.

In their eyes, this wasn’t Xia Yu bringing her over—it was Jiang Kekai moving in. Can you imagine the cost of raising a Young Lady like her?

Thus… they weren’t too thrilled about it.

But those were their thoughts, unspoken among the others, leading everyone to keep eating together.

“I’m full,” Jiang Hanhang said first, putting down her chopsticks and giving Xia Ling a playful pat on the head before bounding up the stairs, giggling. Unsurprisingly, the next one to finish was Xia Ling, who immediately went off to plan her revenge against Jiang Hanhang.

Then came Xia Yu and Jiang Kekai. Xia Yu hadn’t had enough, and Jiang Kekai wasn’t going anywhere, so they left together as a pair.

They’d only been interacting for half a day, but Lin Jie already got a sense of how Jiang Kekai and Jiang Hanhang lived in the Xia family. While their living conditions weren’t great, they seemed quite happy.

Thinking about this, Lin Jie looked over at Xia Le, who was gnawing on a chicken leg. “Little Le, has it always been like this?”

“Yeah,” Xia Le replied indifferently. “Whether in the city or here, they’re almost always like this. Ask my parents if you don’t believe me.”

“Exactly,” Wang Wenjuan added with a smile. She really liked seeing the kids enjoying themselves.

When Jiang Kekai and Xia Yu went upstairs, they found Xia Ling pinning Jiang Hanhang down on the sofa. Jiang Hanhang was squirming with a mix of embarrassment and laughter. Jiang Kekai, used to it, sat Xia Yu down next to her. “How’s it going? Everything packed? We’ll move over there soon.”

“Done. Ready to go anytime.”

Despite Jiang Hanhang’s protests, Xia Ling didn’t stop her. Knowing the mischievous girl’s stubbornness, Jiang Kekai decided to call the bodyguards for help.

“Let me call them to help with the move.”

Sure enough, six bodyguards arrived in stylish suits and shades. Xia Hong swiftly pointed upstairs.

“They’re upstairs,” he said.

The bodyguards nodded, heading up together. The elderly couple didn’t need reminding—their wealth made it clear they were well out of these folks’ league.

Seconds later, the six bodyguards carried boxes downstairs. The four women followed behind.

“You guys moving out?” Xia Hong asked. He wasn’t dumb. With the super-big villa at the village entrance built, he figured Jiang family ladies wouldn’t stay much longer. He’d take Xia Yu and Xia Ling with him.

“Yeah, we’re moving out right away. Call Xiao Yu if anything comes up.”

“Be careful.”

Jiang Kekai’s command was absolute. Xia Hong knew better than to argue. Everyone started off again.

But Xia Yu’s reaction was amusing.

That’s because Jiang Kekai brought Xia Yu’s teddy bear along, so Xia Yu could play with it while she was away. Jiang Kekai was adamant that the bear remain untouched by anyone else, so she insisted Xia Yu carry it herself. Xia Yu carrying such a big teddy around in the village was a sight to behold.

On the way, they inevitably ran into neighbors. Embarrassed, Xia Yu buried her face in the teddy, like an ostrich.

Despite that, the villagers quickly spotted Xia Yu and Xia Ling from their outfits.

They couldn’t believe how much Xia Yu had changed. If not for knowing the family background, they might’ve mistaken her for a boy.

And that’s precisely the case.

Jiang Kekai kept observing, relieved Xia Yu maintained her innocent reputation.

At the villa, Xia Yu breathed a sigh of relief. She now dreaded bumping into neighbors, especially the ones who knew her backstory.

Fearing being found out, Xia Yu felt a wave of sadness. Why did these things have to happen?

Just then, a warm hand brushed against Xia Yu’s head. Xia Yu stopped her thoughts. “What’s wrong? Not liking the villa?”

“No, I’m just thinking about something else.”

“Don’t dwell. You can tell sister anything.”

Hearing Jiang Kekai’s comforting voice, Xia Yu felt a bit better. If not for the recent events, she wouldn’t have encountered someone so kind-hearted.

Jiang Kekai tweaked Xia Yu’s cheeks but saw no reaction.

Oh no, this little cutie was getting even dumber. Jiang Kekai had no choice but to pick up the teddy bear and start walking again.

Back in their room, Jiang Kekai didn’t let anyone else in—unless it was absolutely necessary. She placed the items outside and gently patted Xia Yu’s head, putting the teddy back in her arms.

Meanwhile, Xia Yu snapped to attention and lent a hand. “Let me do this.”

“No, just stand there!” Jiang Kekai teased, pinching Xia Yu’s cheek.

Two large bags—one held thick blankets. So Jiang Kekai was serious about handling it alone.

Seeing her determination, Xia Yu couldn’t complain. She watched Jiang Kekai lay out the blankets awkwardly. Lucky for her, Jiang Dong wasn’t around—he’d probably just make things weird.

In minutes, Jiang Kekai had set up a cozy princess bed despite its slightly outdated state. Even if it wasn’t top-notch, it beat nothing.

“Alright Xia Yu, come on over.”

Jiang Kekai patted the soft bed. She was eager to embrace her darling, even if it meant feeling a bit envious.

After Xia Yu cuddled the toy, Jiang Kekai hugged her tightly. In that moment, Jiang Kekai realized why grandpa said old folks’ love stories were simpler but never boring. It’s an experience of the heart.

A moment later, Jiang Kekai’s phone buzzed.

Distracted, she opened the message, only to see Xia Ling’s reply: ”Big Bad Guy, the time is set. They’ll be here tomorrow.”

”So quick?”

”Yeah, they said when I got back, the timing would be decided, and now that I’m here—”

Jiang Kekai typed with one hand, holding Xia Yu with the other, making her feel a bit neglected.

Curious, Xia Yu looked up, noticing Jiang Kekai messaging single-handed. The typing sound suggested a chat.

Xia Yu’s curiosity was apparent. Jiang Kekai understood and typed with both hands over Xia Yu’s shoulder.

”Got it, ask them what they want to eat.”

”I already did. Everyone’s cool with food, but a few boys want alcohol. If you don’t prepare it, they’ll bring their own.”

”No, tell them not to come then. No drinking allowed here.”

”Okay, I’ll notify them. If anything comes up, I’ll let you know.”
