Chapter 313

Chapter 313: Double Trouble

As soon as dawn broke the next morning, Jiang Kekai and Xia Yu were awakened by the noise outside….

Reluctantly letting go of the soft and cuddly Xia Yu in her arms, Jiang Kekai started to get up, pulling back the curtains to check out what was happening. She discovered that there were tons of people blocking the entrance to the villa; among them, there were also some of Xia Yu and Xia Ling’s elementary school classmates.

This… seemed like they were here to cause trouble.

She closed the window tight and pulled down the curtain. Just as she turned around, she saw Xia Yu sitting up sleepily: “What’s wrong with you, Little Yu? Go back to sleep!” “It’s too noisy, I can’t sleep. Did something happen outside?”

Xia Yu yawned. She might not be dumb, but she could sense something was off. She really did mess things up again for Little Ning Sister, didn’t she? “No worries, leave it to me. Why don’t you catch some more z’s? I’ll bring you breakfast later.”

Jiang Kekai then firmly pushed Xia Yu back into bed, covering her with the blanket and giving her a peck on the forehead: “Be good and sleep. I’ll take care of everything.”

But how could Xia Yu calm down? Immediately after Jiang Kekai left, Xia Yu herself got up, creeping over to the window to peek. And sure enough, many people had gathered outside the gate, chattering away—among them, some of her elementary school friends.

The commotion wasn’t missed by Jiang Kekai, so she waited. The bodyguards held their fire, knowing better than to rouse her from bed.

“When did these people start showing up?”

“It was seven o’clock and eight seconds precisely when the first one showed up.”

Jiang Kekai checked her phone and found it was nearly ten o’clock. She felt a tiny bit of admiration for their patience. Soon, she decided it was time to make her move.

“Don’t open yet,” commanded Jiang Kekai. The bodyguards guarding the door hesitantly waited for a nod before finally opening the gateway to let the masses in.

“Are you Jiang Kekai? With such a small stature, how could you be so malicious—don’t you know it’s dangerous at night? Why aren’t you letting my child go home?”

“Did you have any idea how worried I was last night? I couldn’t even eat anything. Was your kid not going to apologize, hence you won’t let them come back? What if they get sick, can you shoulder the responsibility?”

“My child came back and had diarrhea—do you think the food you served caused this? Where are your parents anyway? Get them to answer!”

Watching this horde approach her with fierce accusations, Jiang Kekai stepped back gracefully, letting the bodyguards form a protective shield behind her.

Silent but defiant, Jiang Kekai just watched them spout nonsense until they exhausted themselves. “Done?” she finally asked, eyeing the crowd, then glancing at Zhao Wei standing at the villa’s entrance. She pointed to a large chair in the room.

Zhao Wei understood instantly, grabbing a big chair and positioning it behind Jiang Kekai.

Sitting down comfortably, she crossed her legs elegantly: “If there’s more to say, go ahead. I’m listening.”

d*mn, she must think they’re all pushovers. This arrogance made everyone even angrier.

Still, no one dared to continue. Clearly, they realized their complaints would fall on deaf ears.

Noticing the silence, Jiang Kekai pointed at a woman speaking up: “Alright, you speak first. Others stay quiet. Or else I’ll just listen to all of you ramble.”

The woman, once named, launched into another round of accusations: “Why didn’t you allow my son to return earlier last night? Why did you force him to apologize to others before releasing him? Plus, my son, along with the others, had diarrhea upon returning. How do you explain this? Where are your parents?”

These questions mirrored the sentiments of the other parents, who all gazed at Jiang Kekai, waiting for her response.

Calm and composed, Jiang Kekai responded: “First, your children bullied my friend at school and said nasty stuff about her. Asking them to apologize—is that too much to ask? Second, we had barbecue last night, and they probably rushed eating without giving it time to cook properly. You could always go to the hospital for a check-up. Third, my parents aren’t here, and ranting won’t change a thing.”

Xia Yu spied on the whole scene downstairs. Somehow, hearing Jiang Kekai call her a friend stirred an odd feeling in her—the two were supposed to be getting married someday…

Without realizing, Xia Yu pouted, revealing a side of her quite reminiscent of a little girl.

“Who gave you the right to supervise my child? Keeping him locked up all this time, what if he encountered an accident? Can you handle the consequences?” “Yes, exactly!”

The parents persisted.

When dealing with someone who refused to play fair, Jiang Kekai naturally wasn’t going to lose either. “Fine, if anything happens, I’ll take the blame. Has anything happened yet?”

Past events aside, Jiang Kekai was confident in her composure. She didn’t know the meaning of losing.

Unsurprisingly, the parents were rendered speechless by her words. Furthermore, considering Jiang Kekai’s wealth, their arguments fell flat.

“Hmph, I wonder how you’ve been brought up. People like you wouldn’t amount to much in society. You’re sc*m.”

Oh, now they’re going full out on insults.

Smiling calmly, Jiang Kekai met the eyes of the parent who had initiated the tirade: “My business is none of your concern. Besides, you don’t have the nerve to speak ill of my parents. Otherwise, you’d be in hot water.”

“What? Insult me, will you? Do you think your parents raised a model child….. Well, they’re no better!”

Clearly not everyone valued civility, especially in this village where protectiveness often went overboard. Targeting the wrong person was asking for trouble. Like this particular parent.

After venting his frustrations, he found relief, albeit brief. Yet, Jiang Kekai remained unfazed, still smiling while glancing at Xia Yu and Xia Ling’s old classmates: “Do you remember what I told you last night?”

Just as her voice settled, several law enforcement vehicles, sirens blaring, quickly parked outside the villa’s gate. An officer in uniform approached the group, feigning ignorance: “Who reported this?”

Suspicious glances were exchanged amongst the parents, but no one admitted the report was theirs.

Finally, Jiang Kekai volunteered: “I did. They verbally harassed me. According to Huaxia’s public order regulations, Article 42, they should be detained for ten days and fined five hundred yuan. I have proof.”

She motioned to a nearby bodyguard, who retrieved a handheld recorder, evidently something she was well-prepared with.

Now the parents were truly alarmed. They hadn’t expected such a turn of events. Afraid but reluctant to speak further, law enforcement swiftly rounded them up.

At last, silence prevailed. Jiang Kekai stretched languidly, returning to the villa to prepare breakfast for Xia Yu personally. Her mood remained unaffected by the ordeal.

Behind-the-scenes, the bodyguards were nonchalant, each going about their tasks. The Lady of the house, as ever, was a paragon of competence and trustworthiness.

Before long, Jiang Kekai whipped up two servings of beef rice granules using ingredients from the day prior. It was a first for her—she wondered how it would taste.

She tasted a spoonful… Yuck!

Disgusted by the burnt and overly salty flavor, she spat out her attempt. What on earth had she cooked? Cooking shouldn’t be so difficult, right? Tossing the mess out, she resolved to try again—she couldn’t fail Xia Yu with her cooking.

Too greasy! Too salty! Burnt beyond recognition.

Xia Yu, spying through the window, noticed Jiang Kekai returning. Frustrated by the wait, she donned her jacket and shoes, hurrying downstairs to investigate.

In the kitchen, she spied Zhao Wei and several bodyguards whispering amongst themselves. Her curiosity compelled her to investigate further.

To her surprise, her diligent sister was actually in the midst of trying her hand at stir-fry. Xia Yu recalled Jiang Kekai mentioning she’d make breakfast for her.

However, given Jiang Kekai’s evident lack of experience, Xia Yu wasn’t surprised at her predicament.

Finally, Xia Yu couldn’t stand it anymore: she pushed past the bodyguards, “Let me help, okay? I know how to cook.”

“No need, it’s smoky. You should head back. I’ll bring breakfast to you shortly. Trust me, Xiao Yu.”

Stubborn as ever, Jiang Kekai continued, though Xia Yu knew better. Turning off the gas valve, she offered a helping hand: “Sister, starting with the wrong steps is what ruined this egg-fried rice.”
