### Chapter 13: I Am the Noble
Night Lan and Night Star walked along, noticing that the number of passersby was increasing, as if they had entered a bustling commercial area.
There were many stalls here conducting transactions, quite lively indeed.
Night Star Lan was very curious about this era; the bits of foreign history she learned in school were mere footnotes, far from familiar.
As such, the two “unremarkable” little lolis kept peeping around, pausing at each stall for a bit, unnoticed.
Night Star Lan actually wanted to buy a souvenir, but sadly, she had no currency for any exchange.
Now she thought it would be better to continue searching for the traces of the Rising Sun Theater Group.
In comparison to this era’s splendor, Night Star Lan preferred witnessing her own theater group’s glory.
The group leader wouldn’t recognize her right now, so she decided to just watch from afar.
If she could see the group perform, it would count as success!
With that in mind, Night Star Lan continued forward, planning to explore.
But after walking for what felt like ages, she realized she was lost.
This town was huge, and without a map, she had no clue how to proceed.
She didn’t know where to get a map herself and figured she might have to ask someone for directions.
It felt like an adventure—almost too thrilling.
“Oh well, let’s try asking.”
After making up her mind, Night Lan let go of Night Star’s hand and approached a passerby, boosting her presence to make sure she was noticed.
“Um… Hi? Can I ask you something? I need a map of this town. If you know where I can find one, please show me.”
Her heart pounded with uncertainty.
She didn’t know if she could communicate across time.
If only everything went smoothly…
The blonde man walking by was successfully grabbed onto by Night Lan.
Hearing her speak, he looked down at the dark-haired girl who seemed to appear from nowhere, slightly startled.
“Who are you?”
“Just a passerby, really. Could you tell me where I can get a map of here?”
The passerby, hearing Night Lan, instinctively pointed towards a shop not far away.
“It’s there.”
“Great, thank you!”
With the answer in hand, Night Lan left with a cheerful smile, but the passerby was still in a daze.
Only now did he notice something odd about the girl.
Her clothes seemed incredibly luxurious, with exquisite craftsmanship—pure high-end items!
And her skin looked so smooth, unmarred by any signs of hard work.
Could she be a noble lady?
Recognizing this, he quickly turned back to look for the girls, only to find them gone, like they’d vanished instantly.
“Oh my god! That must definitely be a noble, and I talked to a noble! Oh my!”
In this era, nobles held immense power, even ruling over their territories where all residents obeyed their orders.
A few nobles in this town were well-known, inspiring awe in the locals.
Commoners couldn’t easily approach nobles. Meeting one was worth talking about for a whole year.
The passerby now suspected the girl was a noble’s child—it was clear from her glamorous outfit and beautiful appearance.
Except for daughters of merchants, she could only be a noble’s child, for commoners couldn’t raise such a refined daughter.
The blonde man’s exclamations drew attention.
Nobles?
Where?
Everyone looked around curiously but saw no one fitting the description, thinking the man must be nuts.
Some even punched him to shut him up, making quite a scene.
Unbeknownst to Night Lan and Night Star, who already entered the shop the passerby pointed out, the chaos ensued behind them.
Looking around, Night Star Lan observed the lackluster store and wondered how future pop-up shops could be more advanced.
But then she remembered this was long ago and felt relieved.
Turning off the existence interference, Night Lan whispered softly.
“Is anyone here?”
Almost immediately, a staggering figure emerged, seeming like an old man.
“Greetings, may I help you with something?”
“Does this place have a map of the town?”
“Yes, I’ll fetch it right away.”
The old man, nearly blind, didn’t notice anything special about Night Lan and hurriedly fetched the map.
Back he came with a roll of yellow leather, presumably the town map.
“That’s what you’re looking for. The price is… one silver coin.”
Seeing the leather map in his hand, Night Lan fell into deep thought.
Hmm…
Then she suddenly realized, she had no money from this era—who did she think she was?!
Forgot completely.
“Um… I don’t have any money…” Night Lan admitted shyly, ready to grab Night Star and make a run for it.
Too embarrassing.
At this, the old man raised an eyebrow, eyes widening.
“How dare you come here without money… Wait, young lady… Are you perhaps… a noble?”
Night Lan tilted her head in confusion.
A noble?
Why does that word sound so familiar?
I guess it’s from books, referring to the powerful figures of ancient times.
But she’s not a noble.
Before she could explain, the store owner, trembling, handed her the map and knelt.
“I apologize, madam. Please forgive my impertinence. To reconcile, consider this map a gift. Don’t be angry.”
“Huh…?”
Night Lan looked puzzled.
Was he mistaking her for a noble?
She thought herself hardly noble material.
Sort of.
Finally realizing her difference, she saw it was her attire.
Future normal clothing was much fancier than ancient ones, both in fabric and craftsmanship.
The clothes Night Lan wore… seemed like the expensive ones Kong Yu Bai bought for Night Star, making her even more glamorous.
Not just in dress, but in presence and looks too. She shone brighter than most, a true beacon at night.
Thus, it wasn’t unreasonable for people to mistake her for a noble.
She began pondering her newfound identity.
Even though she was only staying briefly, seeing the theater’s glory and returning made her feel she could take advantage of this status.
In short, any minor changes were fine as long as they didn’t alter history significantly.
Pretending to be a noble didn’t seem too challenging.
“Right then, indeed! I am, after all, a noble!”
Night Lan declared confidently.
