### Chapter 14: The Holy Knight
Night Lan felt that pretending to be a noble was just within her flexible moral bounds.
With her slightly bendable moral code, lying a little didn’t make her feel guilty at all.
For instance, right now, Night Lan could tell that this old man just wanted to rip her off. Her sensitivity to emotions made it impossible for her to miss such a thing.
From the tone of his voice, one map couldn’t possibly be worth a silver coin; it should be much cheaper, therefore, stealing a map by pretending to be a noble wasn’t too overboard.
So, she accepted the old man’s map and then slipped away.
Pretending to be a noble to get free stuff can only happen occasionally, Night Lan thought; she’d never dare use that identity in public because that would be too stupid. Besides, the risk was huge.
Who knew if there were any military patrols around?
If they found out someone had been pretending to be a noble, who knows what they might do.
Seeing how scared the old man sounded, being a noble must be quite prestigious and frightening, or else he wouldn’t have kneeled.
When Night Lan and Night Star left, the old shopkeeper finally dared to look up again, still wide-eyed.
“My God, who was that noble? Coming to my little shop… Unbelievable!”
The old man mumbled, and his words were heard by a tall blonde man passing by.
He walked up to the old man and looked down at him.
“Repeat what you just said. What noble?”
The old man looked up at the person standing before him and was immediately intimidated.
“Is that a Holy Knight!?”
His body shook even more, clearly fearing him from the bottom of his heart.
Because the “Holy Knight” is the highest law enforcer in this country. They say they can use power given by the gods to crush any evil force instantly, like ruthless executioners.
The best way to identify a Holy Knight is to see them wearing a white-golden armor.
This man in front of the old man is a Holy Knight. His armor and demeanor perfectly matches the standard!
Under pressure, the old man recounted everything that happened.
“Black hair? Blue eyes? High class attire? Dignified demeanor? And took a map?”
The blonde Holy Knight fell into deep thought.
After a moment, he firmly stated, “She’s not a noble. I’ve never heard of a noble with these characteristics around here, and since she took a map, she clearly doesn’t know her way around. Nobles don’t need maps; even if they’re lost, their servants will guide them. Clear discrepancies.”
“But… she feels different than ordinary people…”
“Leave this investigation to me. Since she’s suspicious, it’s necessary to investigate thoroughly, and remember, keep this quiet.”
The Holy Knight turned to leave.
“I understand.”
As the Holy Knight stepped outside, he scanned the crowd but saw no anomalies.
He called himself Jian Ji’an, a regional Holy Knight responsible for patrolling this area for abnormalities.
His job was simple: eliminate sinners possessed by devils and find divine power holders and bring them back to the temple.
Besides that, there were other miscellaneous tasks.
Take, for example, the weird noble mentioned by the old shopkeeper.
By his intuition, something odd must be happening, which is why he was so focused on it.
“Why are you pretending to be a noble? What are you planning?”
—
Shift in viewpoint.
Night Lan and Night Star had arrived at a secluded corner.
Now, the little Lolis were studying the leather map they obtained, trying to understand the general layout.
“Hmm, barely comprehensible, but not as useful as future location maps.”
That was obvious.
Night Star Lan understood the map already.
Thus, she knew the landmarks and approximate roads. The only thing left was figuring out where she was currently.
Only knowing her location made the map useful, otherwise, she’d be clueless about directions.
This meant she’d have to walk around and find a specific building marked on the map.
She also noticed it had a theater!
Finding the theater’s location meant finding the Rising Sun Theater Group!
Exciting!
So, Night Star Lan stepped out cheerfully, ready to explore.
There was no hurry, so she would just casually sightsee.
However, no sooner did she start walking when she heard a cold voice behind her.
“You’re the one, the pretender noble, aren’t you?”
Night Lan’s body stiffened, feeling scrutinized by some intense gaze.
This… It couldn’t be, right?
Even after reducing her presence with Existence Interference, how could anyone still see her?
Moreover, this gaze… It was freaky!
Night Lan and Night Star turned stiffly toward the person who spoke, spotting an odd character.
Judging by his armor, it was clear his identity was significant.
Night Lan didn’t dare speak carelessly, fearing exposure.
The blonde man introduced himself, “My name is Jian Ji’an, a Divine Knight wielding sacred power. Answer, why did you pretend to be a noble? Who are you, exactly? Where did you come from? What are your intentions?”
Jian Ji’an’s tone was indifferent and authoritative, exuding immense pressure.
Had Night Lan not experienced worse, she’d probably be trembling in fear now.
“Mmm…”
Honestly, Night Lan didn’t want to answer this guy.
Could she just say she’s from the future?
Such a claim would sound plausible enough with guards or friends, but this place is foreign, and the person in front of her was a complete stranger.
She didn’t feel like sharing anything with strangers.
Furthermore…
Night Lan noticed Jian Ji’an’s aura was clearly the aura of celestial power!
Even in this era, the power of stars existed. This man was a prime example.
And listening to what he said earlier…
Divine Knights?
What kind of ancient Western fantasy job is that?
Night Lan just wanted to rant.
She also suspected this era had temples and devils—just too strange.
But despite the ranting, Night Lan couldn’t afford to take things lightly.
Unsurprisingly, this Holy Knight seemed like another version of the Night Watchers.
Holding celestial power, he estimated to be a powerful fighter.
Night Lan was unidentified, yet bore celestial power.
Celestial holders attract each other; bluffing was practically impossible.
Coincidentally, she had no interest in mingling with people of this time.
Thinking such, Night Lan grabbed Night Star’s hand and gave a polite smile to Jian Ji’an.
“Gulu-bye~”
Boom!
Night Lan and Night Star suddenly disappeared, leaving a cloud of dust behind.
Jian Ji’an: “??”
