Chapter 321: Out of It
On the other side, Jiang Hanhang and Jiang Kekai were also sleeping on the same princess bed. They both had their phones in hand, clearly indicating that the recent transfers must have been their doing. Suddenly, Jiang Hanhang proudly thrust her phone in front of Jiang Kekai with a boastful expression, “Sis, look! I like Xia Ling more than you like Xia Yu by one percent!” Jiang Kekai: “.…”
Indeed, she had already guessed what was going on between her and Xia Ling, and she’d even asked her elder sister how to get closer to Xia Ling. This time, Jiang Hanhang decided not to hide it anymore and came clean.
Watching her so over-the-top, Jiang Kekai immediately grabbed her little head and shoved it under the covers, making it clear what she thought non-verbally. “Wrong, wrong, sis, I know I was wrong. Please don’t punish me.”
Only when she heard her foolish younger sister pleading for mercy did Jiang Kekai let go. After all, she had experience dealing with this silly loli: “Dare you do it again next time?”
“No, no, I won’t dare.” Then Jiang Hanhang complained pitifully: “Sis, do you treat Xia Yu the same way when she misbehaves? She’s too pitiful.” Jiang Kekai just went, “…”
Meanwhile, Xia Yu and Xia Ling each picked up their own phone, discovering the two clowns had actually posted the year-end red envelopes. True to form, Xia Yu and Xia Ling didn’t reply, tossed their phones aside, and lay back down intending to continue sleeping.
Ding-ding-ding
Xia Yu: “… ”
Xia Ling: “… ”
Sure enough, these were still sent by Jiang Kekai and Jiang Hanhang. Maybe because of their regional habits or something, they weren’t planning on sleeping on New Year’s Eve.
Reluctantly, Xia Yu and Xia Ling picked up their phones and started talking to the others once more…
This went on until Xia Yu and Xia Ling, along with Jiang Kekai and Jiang Hanhang, lost track of time. Unconsciously, it was already six in the morning. With the sound of festive fireworks, Xia Yu and Xia Ling realized they had successfully pulled an all-nighter, and more tasks awaited them.
Sure enough, next, their mom knocked on their door, “Xiao Yu, Xiao Ling, get up and join New Year greetings!”
“Got it, Mom.”
Xia Ling first responded, then sluggishly put down her phone, got dressed, and headed to the bathroom.
As for Xia Yu, she changed out of her pajamas back in her room before ruffling her messy hair to wash up. Along the way, she bumped into Xia Hong and Wang Wenjuan sitting in the living room, smiling at her as if waiting for something.
Understanding the situation instantly, Xia Yu rubbed her face and said with a smile, “Happy New Year to Mom and Dad, may you be healthy, work smoothly, and everything goes smoothly.”
“Yeah, and I hope your studies progress,” Wang Wenjuan chuckled and handed Xia Yu two red bills.
Xia Hong, being generous, directly handed Xia Yu two red bills, “See if your hair will get messed up. Do you need help with that?”
“No, I can manage myself. Thank you.” Xia Yu felt awkward, took the money, and quickly slipped into the bathroom.
Just as Xia Ling was brushing her teeth, seeing Xia Yu’s flustered state, she found it odd, “What’s going on?”
“Mom and Dad are waiting by the door with more red packets for you. Hurry up.” Xia Yu showed her four red bills to prove her point.
After a quick rinse, Xia Ling rushed out to greet her parents. Ten minutes later, both Xia Yu and Xia Ling returned to Xia Ling’s room.
Neither had slept all night, so they were in less than ideal condition. Though they weren’t sporting any heavy dark circles, frequent yawning was inevitable.
They returned here because Xia Yu was lazy. Usually, Jiang Kekai would deal with her hair, which made her rather spoiled.
Xia Ling wasn’t going to say anything about it; after all, she pampered her younger sister. Quickly, she helped comb Xia Yu’s hair and braided it into a few cute designs.
Xia Ling couldn’t help but reminisce. Xia Yu used to be so timid. Who knew she’d become so brave now? Still, she loved her sister no matter what.
Pinching one of the braids, Xia Yu turned to Xia Ling and smiled, “I remember, sister, you said you’d give me a red packet when I wore girl clothes during the New Year. Where’s my packet now?”
Xia Ling replied bluntly, “Oh…”
Xia Ling had no complaints, but giving a red packet right now wouldn’t be fun. Reaching out, she gently rubbed Xia Yu’s face, “Don’t rush me. The same rule applies as last year. I’ll give it to you tonight, promise not to mess around this time.”
Seeing Xia Ling’s sincere expression, Xia Yu decided to trust her once more, “Alright, don’t forget tonight.”
Well, well, since becoming a small rich lady, why did she still keep track of her money? Let’s go downstairs and greet grandpa and grandma first, then find time to rest later.
Xia Ling pinched Xia Yu’s cheeks again, then pulled her along. Indeed, having a sibling was great, as they could act together. And thus, Xia Yu and Xia Ling set off downstairs together.
With Xia Ling’s thoughtful grooming, today’s Xia Yu looked cuter than yesterday, and the small braids added to the effect. Soon, everyone believed she was truly becoming a more feminine individual.
Having received her New Year’s money from grandpa and grandma, usually, they would visit relatives in the village. But Xia Yu and Xia Ling decided to skip it. As they were nearly middle schoolers, they felt grown-up enough.
Once due to arriving too early, their host family hadn’t woken up yet. That led to some grumbling about them coming so early for money. Afterward, they were scared and never visited again, leading to further grumbles.
With their minds made up, Xia Yu and Xia Ling headed upstairs again, planning to rest in their rooms. If possible, maybe they wouldn’t even eat lunch.
Just then, Xia Le descended the stairs and met them halfway.
He glanced at Xia Yu’s new outfit and saw Xia Ling staring at him warily before inviting her, “Wanna go sh**t some targets? This time, we’ll work together.”
