### Chapter 236: Beili Baby
Following that, Wei Yin also introduced to her wife, “Let me introduce you to the talented Jiang Family’s young lady, Jiang Kekai. There are too many businesses under her name, I can’t be bothered listing them all. But let’s just get acquainted for now.”
Jiang Kekai wasn’t particularly displeased with this introduction. Soon, she was drawn away by the baby in Xia Yu’s arms, and then she turned to Wei Yin and Tang Mengying, saying, “Can I hold her?”
“Of course!”
Being able to attract affection from her own baby, Tang Mengying and Wei Yin, both mothers, were naturally pleased, especially since it was Jiang Kekai, the young lady. With their permission granted, Jiang Kekai didn’t hesitate to reach out her hands next to Xia Yu, saying, “Little Yu, hand me the baby.”
“Here,” Xia Yu gently handed over the wailing baby to Jiang Kekai’s arms. It cried as if it didn’t like Jiang Kekai.
Jiang Kekai felt a bit awkward — it was just to hold the baby for a moment, did it have to be so dramatic? Plus, the baby had never met her before, so why would it dislike her?
While Jiang Kekai was trying to figure this out, Xia Ling felt a bit relieved; she didn’t have to feel bad anymore since another person also couldn’t gain the baby’s favor. Evidently, this treatment wasn’t her fault.
Seeing the situation, Jiang Kekai could only hand the still-crying Beili back to Xia Yu, letting Xia Yu comfort her.
Unexpectedly, Xia Yu didn’t need to, because as soon as the baby was in Xia Yu’s embrace again, it stopped crying instantly. Instead, it clung tightly to Xia Yu’s clothes, which made Jiang Kekai grit her teeth out of frustration. This baby was really amusing, and even Jiang Hanhan who was watching couldn’t resist walking over and extending her hand towards Xia Yu, saying, “Little Yu, can I try holding her too?”
Seeing both her aunt and Wei Yin smiling approval, Xia Yu gave it a shot and passed the baby to Jiang Hanhan.
Surprisingly, Beili didn’t cry at all but instead looked curiously at Jiang Hanhan with wide eyes…
Jiang Hanhan pinched the baby’s little cheeks and then proudly looked at her sister, “Look, she’s not crying! She’s happy in my arms!”
“Well, even if she isn’t, that doesn’t mean it’s your business.”
Though Jiang Kekai tried to hide it, her envious tone was clear. Why didn’t the baby like her? Ha!
Tang Mengying finally couldn’t help but burst out laughing, “Xiao Ning, it seems you’re just as unpopular with babies as Xiao Ling.”
“What? Xiao Ling too?”
Now Jiang Kekai and Jiang Hanhan finally understood why Xia Ling asked that question earlier. The poor kid was probably starting to doubt herself already… how hilarious!
Soon, Jiang Hanhan started to playfully mock, carrying the baby in front of Xia Ling, “Xiao Ling, look at how cute the baby is. Too bad she doesn’t like you. She probably saw that you’re a bad sister.”
“If you think that, then your sister must be a bad sister too!” “No, only you are.”
Xia Ling:
Watching Xia Ling and Jiang Hanhan, Jiang Kekai looked on and thought to herself that someday she wanted a baby just as adorable as Xia Yu’s baby.
And based on how Xia Yu acted earlier, Jiang Kekai felt relieved. Xia Yu seemed very fond of babies. As long as Xia Yu liked them, Jiang Kekai trusted her.
Not everyone gets to hold the baby, but having some fun with it is always fine, like pinching its cheeks. Then the baby would swat Xia Ling’s or Jiang Kekai’s hands. That was pretty funny.
Before long, Xia Yu and Xia Ling’s maternal aunt came over to call them, “Still playing? Time to eat, come down and join us.” “Got it.”
Wei Yin took the initiative to pick up the baby carriage and glanced at Jiang Hanhan, “Hand the baby to Mengying; it’s safer that way when we go downstairs.”
Jiang Hanhan agreed with her concern and handed the baby to Tang Mengying, “Mengying sister, this baby is so cute.”
“Yes, you’ll have one too someday.”
Tang Mengying nuzzled the baby’s cheek and then looked at the group of women, “Go down first, I’ll take the rear.” Seeing Xia Yu still eyeing the baby, Jiang Kekai playfully pinched Xia Yu’s cheek, saying teasingly, “Come on, you’ll have one too in the future, so no rushing!”
Hearing this, Xia Yu blushed and hurried downstairs, “Alright, alright, got it.”
Below, four tables of dishes were arranged. Two in the living room and two outside. There were plenty of guests after all.
One table was reserved for the male guests drinking alcohol, irrelevant to the women. Following that, Jiang Kekai led the other women to the better-lit area outside and pointed to the unoccupied table, “This one will do.”
The rest of the women actually preferred this arrangement too. Inside, the big men smoking might not be ideal for Beili’s sensitive nose. So outside was perfect.
Thus, the women took their seats at one of the tables outside. Wang Wenjuan and a few other female relatives joined them, filling the table.
Beili was an incredibly unruly baby. Sitting quietly in the carriage was enough, but she kept tugging at the clothes of both her mothers. Her mischievous behavior was quite playful. However, this playfulness was endearing to Wei Yin and Tang Mengying, who loved their precious bundle of joy immensely. Xia Yu wished for a baby just like this too.
But quickly she shook her head, dispelling that thought. She was still young and didn’t know much beyond holding a baby. Perhaps it could wait.
Unknown to her, Jiang Kekai noticed her contemplation and thought about Xia Yu’s behavior while holding the baby, mulling over some early arrangements she could make.
The atmosphere here was lively, though most were strangers to her and the food was rather ordinary. Nevertheless, Jiang Kekai and Jiang Hanhan enjoyed this celebratory ambiance, as it was Chinese New Year after all.
On the other side of things, the Jiang family without Jiang Kekai and Jiang Hanhan felt emptier. The festive ambiance was missing, and even Jiang Dong and Jiang Tao’s son, Jiang Lei, felt reluctant to join the dinner.
Finally, Jiang Bin couldn’t bear the silence any longer. Putting down his chopsticks, he said, “Maybe I should go fetch Xiao Ning and Han Han back. It’s too quiet here.”
“But do you think they’ll come back?” Jiang Heng interrupted his eldest son, “They went to find Xia Yu and Xia Ling. If you bring back that Xia Yu, I won’t allow it.”
