Chapter 241: Charge Two Million
In walked an elder in a white lab coat, roughly the same age as Doctor Y: “Doctor Y, given your past and present contributions, the head of the family has decided to temporarily replace you with me to continue the research. What do you think?”
Doctor Y laughed mockingly. So, this old chap wanted to take credit for his work; they had done most of the experiments. How could he easily give up those results? “What’s that got to do with you?”
“That’s where you’re wrong, Doctor Y. We’ve supplied you with time, manpower, and resources. What have you produced? Therefore, matters should be left to capable hands.”
“Huh! You’ve got some nerve. Try and force me out if you dare. See if the data still exists when you’re done,” said Doctor Y defiantly.
…
That night back at the big villa, it was game time. Xia Yu logged on promptly, ready to play her best.
Little Bear (President): ‘Xia Yu, have you thought about taking charge? I’ll recharge for you.’
Evil Immortal Swordsman (Elder): ‘Why let him take charge? It’s obvious he’s a noob account. Even if he’s active, what good does it do?’
Looking at these comments in the chat log, Xia Yu quickly typed to prove herself—but before she could send anything, three pop-up messages appeared:
– ‘You have been removed from Tiānxià WúShuāng guild. Admin: Evil Immortal Swordsman.’
Xia Yu: “…”
It was heartbreaking. She had hoped to use her energy to retire comfortably in the top guild, but now she was kicked out the very day she joined. Xia Yu felt a bit miffed.
Suddenly, the curious head of Xiao Ning peeked over: “Tsk tsk tsk, Xia Yu, you’re in deep trouble. Want me to put some gold on it? Join my guild, and I’ll help ya.”
“Xiao Ning, your guild?”
Xia Yu glanced curiously at the screen. She knew Xiao Ning secretly enjoyed gaming, but she hadn’t realized Xiao Ning created a guild so quickly or that anyone would join.
To Xia Yu’s shock, Xiao Ning’s character had a million combat power—enough to rank in the top three. And it was just day one.
As expected, someone who plays hard to beat can hardly lose.
Happily, Xiao Ning’s offer meant Xia Yu wouldn’t feel left out. She immediately joined her guild and got a Vice President position—sickeningly cool!
Then Xia Yu noticed Xia Ling and Jiang Hanhang’s characters also in the guild with impressive stats.
Compared to her humble combat power, Xia Yu really considered investing more to match them. With Xiao Ning, Hanhang, and Ling all playing, this game would surely be more thrilling.
Resolute, Xia Yu clicked into the recharge page and spent a staggering six bucks.
The kids gathered to play, not a word from Jiang Bin and Zhang Yunzhi—because serious kids aren’t fun kids. Activities started soon enough.
Led by Jiang Ke’ai, the girls stormed the dungeon for bosses. Surprisingly, there were few in their guild. But hey, it was only been minutes since they launched; everyone else was scooped up by bigger guilds already.
Jiang Hanhan emerged victorious in the boss battle. She first called the game CEO, requesting full luck boost and refund of all charges. Done, she recharged a million and gave Xia Ling another ten thousand, which would all be refunded.
The game CEO wasn’t even annoyed; he could already sense Jiang Jiā’er Jiang Hanhan’s family would invest more in his game.
Hanhan emerged as #1 with 18 million combat power. Little Bear followed with 15 million. Xiao Ning came in third with 12 million combat power. Evil Immortal Swordsman landed #4 with 6 million. Xia Ling held #5 with 5 million.
(‘You have been killed by Little Bear’. … ‘You have been killed by Evil Immortal Swordsman’.)
The divine warriors fought while regular players like Xia Yu suffered. Just after reviving, Xia Yu got kicked again, feeling terrible. The in-game sound dropped significantly; it was Evil Immortal Swordsman talking again, inviting players in:
“Top 3, come join our guild!”
Xiao Ning ignored, but Hanhan got hooked: “No way. How dare you kick Xia Yu out? We won’t go.”
“Xia Yu? That broke gamer? You know him?”
Game sounds were external, so Jiang Bin and Zhang Yunzhi along with the trio looked up. “Still broke? Saving is bad?” Xia Yu blushed, feeling unfairly judged.
(‘You have been killed by Xiao Ning’. … ‘You have been killed by Xiao Ning’.)
“d*mn, Xiao Ning, why’d you k*ll me if you’re such a beast?”
“I did.” Xiao Ning finally spoke, voice cracking with emotion, “Xia Yu is under my protection. Keep an eye out.”
“Girl, so cocky, protective wife much? Shall we recharge more?”
“We own this game. I’ve got a deal with customer service.”
Without Jiang Hanhan mentioning, Xiao Ning was oblivious: “Really?”
“Why lie? I’ve put in over a million.”
When Jiang Bin learned the game was family-owned, he offered: “Xia Yu, have Xiao Ning cover some costs.”
“Oh?”
Xia Yu was overwhelmed; Jiang Bin must see her like a daughter-in-law? Before more could be thought, activities ended. The winner took their rewards, including Xia Yu’s guild’s substantial bonuses since two out of three top players.
Jiang Ke’ai seized control to charge Xiao Yu 2 million. Shocked by the amount, she was unsure how to spend it.
This… was too extravagant for gaming, she thought.
Jiang Bin smiled seeing the bond forming among the children. Warm and lively, unlike the quiet past few days. At 10 pm, Jiang Ke’ai pulled Xia Yu towards their room: “Dad, Mom, me and Xia Yu will hit the hay. See you later.”
Nodding, Jiang Bin replied, “Good night, off to bed. Long journey ahead.”
After spending so much money, Xia Yu’s character shot up to 13 million combat power—a real game-changer. Despite retiring early, Xia Yu stayed wired, even playing in bed.
Xiao Ning smacked her b*tt firmly: “Moderation is key. No more gaming.”
“Yes, yes.”
She then realized how enticed she was; better to moderate in the future. Exhausted, Xiao Ning fell asleep holding Xia Yu. Xia Yu’s thoughts remained on the game.
Looking at the sleeping Xiao Ning, Xia Yu hesitated but picked up her phone again. After all, she hated long rides, and tomorrow would bring a long journey.
Deciding to dive back in, Xia Yu launched a night session with eye-care mode activated.
Unbeknownst to her, Xiao Ning woke upon stirring, witnessing Xia Yu’s gaming obsession. How could she do anything else but indulge such a playful heart?
Thinking Xia Yu’s motion sickness required sleep during lengthy trips, Xiao Ning closed her eyes, leaving the game to Xia Yu.
Xia Yu played through the night.
Having such a thrilling experience, Xia Yu found gaming addictive, even staying up all night. Tired but energized, exhaustion flickered in her eyes.
Xiao Ning rose, giving the naughty girl another firm smack: “Thought you’d stop? Didn’t expect a total all-nighter.”
Fuming, Xia Yu calmed quickly, understanding her concern: “Morning, Xiao Ning.”
