Chapter 342: Time for Some Mischief
“How long have you been playing?”
Jiang Kekai wanted to test this little cutie to see if she was lying to her.
Looking into Jiang Kekai’s wise eyes, Xia Yu got nervous and obediently confessed, “Um… just an overnight session.” “Your phone’s been confiscated; you can get some proper sleep in the car later.”
With that, Jiang Kekai seized the opportunity to take Xia Yu’s phone away, ensuring that this little cutie wouldn’t get too lost in the rabbit hole of the internet.
Right, she could ignore her silly sister Jiang Hanhang, since Xia Ling was around to keep her in check. Though Xia Ling could be a bit of a wild card at times, overall, she provided some peace of mind.

With her phone confiscated, Xia Yu didn’t dare protest; after all, it was Sister Little Ning taking it, and she knew it was out of concern.
To avoid being disliked and deemed annoying by Sister Little Ning, Xia Yu decided to be very cooperative. She woke up, got dressed, brushed her teeth, and then headed downstairs to prepare breakfast.
The fridge still had plenty of ingredients; with so many bodyguards around, they couldn’t possibly eat out every meal, right? That wouldn’t be safe at all. So the villa had more than just one fridge, stocked full of fresh ingredients.
After they left, the ingredients would be left for Xia Yu and Xia Ling’s families to handle, whether they used them for themselves or to give away. So Xia Yu figured, why not make use of them now?
“Oh, Xia Yu, you’re making breakfast? Let’s see how your cooking skills are.”
Jiang Bin and Zhang Yunzhi came down from upstairs. They were a bit surprised to see Xia Yu taking on the kitchen, but recalling what they had heard online about country kids being responsible at a young age, they shrugged it off and looked forward to seeing Xia Yu’s culinary talents.
At first, Xia Yu didn’t think too much of it, but when Jiang Bin said that, she suddenly got nervous. What if it didn’t taste good?
Just then, Jiang Kekai, fully dressed, came downstairs: “Dad, Mom, you can trust Xia Yu’s cooking. She’s really good at it.”
Great, with Sister Little Ning hyping it up, Xia Yu felt even more anxious.
What she intended to be a simple bowl of noodles for breakfast now felt like an elaborate feast with Jiang Bin and Sister Little Ning’s expectations. Xia Yu thought, if I don’t whip up a good spread, I’ll feel guilty!
So, Xia Yu went back to the fridge, hesitating whether to bring out more ingredients for the meal, but she wasn’t an expert with fancy items. Just then, Jiang Kekai approached her: “Xia Yu, you little dummy, do you really think you’re a master chef now? Just make whatever you’re good at; Mom and Dad won’t have high expectations.”
True enough, after that little compliment from Sister Little Ning, Xia Yu felt a bit proud. In reality, she hadn’t seen much of the world; she could only cook simple home dishes. Knowing this, she thought, I’ll just stick to my plan and make some beef noodle soup…
Meanwhile, Jiang Kekai helped by washing the ingredients and bowls, but her main goal was just to keep Xia Yu company.
After all, this little dummy didn’t really take care of herself. Hearing she had stayed up all night made Jiang Kekai anxious that Xia Yu might faint at any moment. She couldn’t afford to let her guard down with Xia Yu.
Before long, Jiang Hanhang and Xia Ling came downstairs together.
Seeing Xia Yu cooking in the kitchen, Jiang Hanhang and Xia Ling made themselves right at home, pushing through the glass door: “Xia Yu, what tasty dish are you making? We want some too!”
“Sure, sure, go wait outside with Mom and Dad; it’ll be ready soon!”
Jiang Kekai gave her silly sister a light tap on the head, worried her proximity might disrupt Xia Yu’s cooking flow. She knew her sister’s personality too well—always stirring up trouble instead of minding her own business.
Jiang Hanhang hadn’t intended to learn how to cook either and quickly backed off after being tapped, dragging Xia Ling along in retreat. As long as there was beef noodle soup for them, they were good! The cooking process wasn’t complicated, but if Xia Yu had spent extra time simmering broth, it might take a while. Before you knew it, a large pot of beef noodle soup was ready.
The noodles were served up in big bowls, topped with slices of beef, sprinkled with green onions, and finished with delicious bone broth. Xia Yu was confident her dish was just as good as anything you’d find outside. When serving the older folks first, she couldn’t shake the feeling that they were watching her with strange looks…
“Hmm, this is quite good! I didn’t expect you to have such skills, Xia Yu. Looks like Little Ning will be enjoying good meals from now on!” Jiang Bin commented with satisfaction.
Just like Jiang Kekai had said, Xia Yu wasn’t a professional chef, and Jiang Bin’s expectations weren’t too high—after all, for a kid, she did pretty well.
Receiving such praise made Xia Yu breathe a sigh of relief. Phew! Slurp slurp slurp~
After a few bites of noodle, Jiang Hanhang curiously asked Xia Ling beside her, “Hey, Xia Ling, can you cook?”
“Nope,” Xia Ling replied nonchalantly. “I only handle eating.”
Jiang Hanhang: “…What a useless person.”
Xia Ling: “….”
With Xia Yu being so capable and even getting compliments from her dad, Jiang Kekai couldn’t help but feel happy herself. After all, she was going to be her future wife! This villa had more than one kitchen—while Jiang Kekai and the others were enjoying breakfast, the bodyguards rotated through eating breakfast too, so they could set off simultaneously.
Jiang Kekai wasn’t about to give Xia Yu her phone back anytime soon. As soon as they got in the car, she told Xia Yu, “Now you be good and sleep, don’t you dare think about anything else, got it?”
“Mm-hmm.”
Xia Yu nodded obediently. Plus, after staying up all night, her head was already feeling foggy from lack of sleep. So, she definitely wasn’t going to be thinking too much. Snuggling up next to Jiang Kekai and wrapping herself in the blanket, Xia Yu fell soundly asleep, just as she had planned.
This little cutie! Jiang Kekai really found it hard to handle her sometimes. She couldn’t bear to get mad at her and definitely didn’t want to scare her off. It’s like they were both in too deep!
Watching the two get along so well, Jiang Hanhang felt a pang of envy. If only Xia Ling treated her that nicely!
Then glancing at Xia Ling playing video games beside her, Jiang Hanhang was so irritated she bumped her little head hard against Xia Ling’s chest, thinking it was time to teach her a lesson. “Hey, haven’t you been getting away with too much these days, Hanhang?” Xia Ling smiled and grabbed Jiang Hanhang’s head, ready to deliver a solid lesson.
“Alright, save the mischief for later! Don’t disturb Xia Yu’s sleep.”
