Chapter 347: Mom and Dad Arrive
“Little Ning Sister, Little Ning Sister where are you? I’ll be good, I promise. Don’t leave me, please. I’ll be good…” Xia Yu’s voice snapped Kekai out of her thoughts. She immediately put away her phone and went back to Xia Yu, asking the nurse manager beside her, “What’s going on?”
“I have no idea. I’ll find someone.”
Before long, the nurse manager brought back the doctor who had diagnosed Xia Yu. He looked at the delirious Xia Yu and quickly concluded, “It’s just an illusion. The poison has some hallucinogenic effects. It just brings out people’s deepest fears. But it will pass soon. It won’t hurt the body.” Kekai nodded, indicating she understood. She never thought this silly little thing was afraid that she would abandon her. Really… what a fool.
Two hours later, the hemodialysis ended. The nurse manager packed up and left. Xia Yu was calmer but still not awake.
Well, if she wasn’t awake, then Kekai would just sit by her bed and take care of this irresponsible little fool. Suddenly, the door to Xia Yu’s room burst open. Xia Ling and Hanhang walked in quietly, worried about disturbing Xia Yu’s rest. Seeing these two, Kekai knew they had something to say. So she signaled them not to speak and left the room first.
Xia Ling and Hanhang exchanged glances, then immediately understood and also left the room.
With the door closed, Kekai finally let out a sigh of relief. Turning to Xia Ling and Hanhang, she asked, “It’s so late, why are you still here?” “I was worried about my sister, couldn’t I come to take care of her?” Xia Ling looked at Kekai somewhat displeased.
Kekai didn’t get angry, knowing Xia Ling was concerned about Xia Yu. “Okay. Xiao Yu is fine now. She just needs to rest. If nothing else, go home and rest early. I’ll stay here.”
“Then when will Xiao Yu wake up, Sister?”
“I don’t know. Maybe tomorrow, maybe the day after. I forgot to ask.”
Hanhang continued, “Tomorrow, Xiao Yu and Xiao Ling’s parents are returning to Peng City. If they see Xiao Yu like this…”
Kekai knew what her sister was worrying about, but she chose to face it honestly. “If they ask, I’ll tell them the truth. And if Xiao Yu doesn’t recover, I won’t let her leave the hospital.”
Pretty responsible, which made Xia Ling like Kekai even more. Who would’ve thought her younger sister would have such a good eye for people? Hopefully, Kekai wouldn’t become a heartbreaker because she had money.
After much persuasion, Hanhang finally went home with Xia Ling. Hospital stays were too gloomy and full of bacteria. Prolonged exposure was bad for health.
Until she saw the two girls disappear around the corner, Kekai returned to Xia Yu’s side, waiting for Xia Yu to wake up. Without Xia Yu’s waking up, how could she feel at ease?
But thinking about what Xia Yu was most afraid of, Kekai felt both happy and sad. Happy because Xia Yu placed trust in her, yet sad because she couldn’t understand why Xia Yu thought she would leave her.
Kekai smiled bitterly, looking at the sleeping Xia Yu, remembering all those words Xia Yu had said in the Jiang family: tell her when she no longer liked something; she could handle leaving herself.
As the night grew deeper, Kekai felt sleepy. Despite hesitation, she took off her shoes and lay down next to Xia Yu to keep warm together.
The next morning, Xia Yu woke up, feeling dizzy and a bit queasy. Her sudden memory lapse from last night still confused her. Next to her, Xia Yu saw Little Ning Sister watching over her, which made things less scary. She remembered feeling dizzy and nauseous last night, then waking up there. Xia Yu’s movements startled the keen Kekai awake. Opening her eyes, she found that it was Little Cutey who woke her up.
Kekai was not annoyed but quite pleased, “Xiao Yu, are you okay?”
“Head hurts.”
“Alright, stay in bed. I’ll call someone over to check on you.”
As Kekai pressed the button, the nurse manager and diagnostic doctor arrived. Kekai didn’t waste time, telling them Xia Yu’s symptoms. “She says her head hurts. Any idea why?”
The doctor examined his glasses and concluded, “She only underwent one dialysis session yesterday. There’s still toxins in her system. We need two more sessions.”
“No serious harm?”
“Not dangerous, just a bit uncomfortable. But regular dialysis can affect your overall health, don’t worry too much. Minor issues.”
“When should we do it? Can she go home today?”
The doctor nodded, “It’s not lethal. She can go if she’s moving freely. Come every three days. Two visits suffice.”
Kekai looked at Xia Yu, “Feel like getting up?”
Trying to stand, Xia Yu felt dizzy and slightly queasy, but didn’t want Little Ning Sister to worry: “No worries, I’m fine. Let’s go.”
“If you’re sure? Are you absolutely certain?”
Xia Yu hesitated but finally nodded, “I don’t like hospitals. I prefer staying at home.”
Kekai hadn’t planned on letting Xia Yu leave, fearing potential accidents, but softened at Xia Yu’s explanation: “Okay, but listen to me. No past ten thirty, and if anything’s wrong, tell me.”
“Promise.”
Kekai ruffled Xia Yu’s hair, helpless yet fond. Handling all the formalities, Kekai and Xia Yu stepped out, meeting Hanhang and Xia Ling carrying a thermal flask as visitors. Seeing Xia Yu and Kekai unharmed, Xia Ling rushed forward, hugging Xia Yu. “Smelly sister, you worried me last night!”
“Alright, alright, everything’s fine now.”
Kekai pulled Xia Ling away—it was her wife, after all. Xia Ling struggled free and hugged again, “Xiao Yu is my sister. Big Bad, stop being petty. Besides, she’s not your wife yet.”
Uncontrollable volume drew everyone’s attention, making it awkward. Kekai, not wanting to argue, took her sister’s hand. “Hanhang, let’s go.”
Hanhang swiftly understood and cooperated.
Sure enough, Xia Ling caught up with Xia Yu…
Back home, Xia Ling and Hanhang, now calm, decided to get answers. “Sis, what’s wrong with Xiao Yu’s poisoning? Who did it? So ruthless?”
Kekai did not hide the truth, “Someone hired my guards and poisoned Xiao Yu’s food. I sent them to track down the culprits, unsure whether we will catch them.”
As for who hired them, Hanhang didn’t press further, knowing only two in the Jiang household disliked Xia Yu.
“What… then. Sis, what are you planning to do once you catch him?”
“I haven’t decided. If it’s Uncle No. 2, I’ll make him regret it.”
Seeing her caring older sister, Xia Yu felt overwhelmed and grateful. To avoid awkwardness, Xia Yu started playing a game. She had missed yesterday’s tasks, needing to catch up today.
Xia Yu resumed gaming, but Kekai didn’t mind. If the kid still had energy to play, it meant she was improving.
Kekai also got her phone and joined the fun…
Xia Hong left early in the morning, reaching Peng City by the afternoon. Even with heavy luggage, the bodyguards were efficient. Entering their home, Xia Hong saw the three women slumped on the sofa, engrossed in their phones. As for Xia Yu, she was exhausted from gaming and slept in Kekai’s arms. Kekai had Hanhang fetch a blanket.
Watching these lively young ladies, Xia Hong felt their life was pretty good, except for his own son, already hopeless.
Gradually louder outside, Xia Yu slowly woke, realizing her parents and brother were back, bringing lots of stuff.
“Awake? Still tired? Want to go back to your room?”
Xia Yu shook her head. Dizzy, she explained, “I had a nightmare last night. Feels better now.”
