Chapter 7: Who Understands This?
Nyx Lan lingered at the edge of the crowd, unsure whether to dive deeper in.
She felt that these people were a bit off.
If she joined them, wouldn’t it be odd?
Maybe she should just look at the building over there with the family?
Just as Nyx Lan was about to slip away, she suddenly noticed something.
In her field of vision, a remarkable figure was walking through the crowd, obviously out of place.
This was an elegant gentleman who looked to be around thirty to forty years old. With his mature and rational air, he appeared like a major figure walking among the mundane. Any normal person could easily notice his extraordinary presence.
Next to him was a petite girl, about five feet tall, with long black hair. She had a quiet demeanor.
Yet, this unconventional pair passed through the crowd unnoticed, as if they were being ignored or simply undetectable.
Except for Nyx Lan.
“Hmm…”
The moment she spotted them, her body tensed up, her heart racing, wishing she could run immediately.
That’s Star Eclipses! Yes, Star Eclipses!
Run already, Nostrada!
Wait, the girl next to that man is kind of cute.
Although, she’s also a Star Eclipses.
Nyx Lan chose to hide in the corner and observe secretly, rather than drawing attention to herself.
Her intuition told her that those two Star Eclipses might be related to the current bizarre dream; maybe observation was the way to go.
“Stare—”
She prepared to escape if she was discovered.
Meanwhile.
The elegant gentleman walked through the crowd, watching those “performance artists” with a cultured ease.
“Yin, do you know? In dreams, people let down their guard. Asking them questions can get an honest response. And their reactions reveal their true thoughts. Gather enough of this information, and you can see someone’s true nature, which often differs sharply from what they show in reality.”
“Incomprehensible,” replied Star Eclipses named “Yin.”
The gentleman didn’t rebuke her but pointed at the crowd instead.
“See that man? He’s in special customer service and always dresses sharply to impress clients, getting orders. But actually, he’d rather dress casually, even strip down to the bare minimum, as if this freedom gives him peace. Imagine walking in public in just your underwear—if only we did what we really wanted!”
“Kinda embarrassing.”
“And that other man, saying crude words just to grab attention and become the center of the group. In real life, he’s quite shy and timid, his voice barely audible, yet here, he does exactly what he yearns for. Isn’t that amusing?”
“Not really.”
“Now look at that woman gorging herself. In reality, she cares deeply about her figure and resists temptation even when delicious food is right there. In dreams, though, she indulges freely. That’s her secret truth.”
“Heh.”
Yin tersely acknowledged the gentleman’s monologue, almost as if she wasn’t listening, seeming unable to follow his interest.
The gentleman slightly shook his head, then fell silent.
“Forget it. Even I, who created these existences, cannot understand my own thoughts. You only need to do one thing.”
He shifted the topic.
“Just… The dream has only begun. When reality and dream flip, how will those lost in this fantasy choose? I am very curious, Yin. What about you?”
“Doesn’t matter.”
“Indeed, a predictable reply. No worries, we must weave this world together, recording its true essence.”
“Alright.”
With that, the two vanished into the crowd and out of Nyx Lan’s sight.
Finally releasing a breath of relief, Nyx Lan’s heartbeat steadied.
“Phew… Looks like they didn’t spot me.”
She patted her non-existent chest, looking visibly shaken.
Unsurprisingly, these were likely the main characters of the Star Eclipses event.
Even from a distance, she could sense his difference from typical Star Eclipses, almost feeling he matched the Group Leader’s secretive vibe. Just too mysterious.
That kind of Star Eclipses was best handled by professional Night Watchers, not by herself.
With this thought, Nyx Lan turned to leave.
Yet, just after taking a few steps, a shadow abruptly descended and landed before her.
“Mortal! Fate is strange, allowing us to meet. This is your fortune. I, the Dark Dominion Lord, have regained my powers. If you join me as a loyal follower, I will share my authority with you. What say you? Excited?”
“Agh…?”
Scared at first, Nyx Lan recognized the dramatic arrival as Night Feather.
So, she was dragged into this world too.
Only… why does Night Feather’s dramatic tendency seem worse?
Feeling utterly blank, Nyx Lan had no idea how to respond.
“Who understands this…?”
Muttering to herself, she scrutinized Night Feather, noticing a stark contrast to her regular appearance.
First, behind her stood massive black wings, darkly majestic.
Surrounding her floated dark mist, almost like the emblem of some dark organization.
Had she not known Night Feather was a Night Watcher, Nyx Lan would think she was the cause of the Star Eclipses incident!
For example, in video game cutscenes, certain players’ outfits can be more boisterous than bosses’, making basic human form absent.
Nyx Lan doubted Night Feather would avoid a drubbing from other Watchers if her current state became known.
“Um… Lady Night Feather, can you summon Stars?”
“Nope.”
“Then how are you like this…”
“It’s the power inherent here. Anything wished can become real, mirroring dreams. And now, I am the genuine Dark Dominion Lord!”
Night Feather struck a dashing pose, as if the true big boss was revealed.
