Chapter 359

Chapter 370: Who’s the Dumbest Here?

There was no denying that Jiang Hanhang’s vengeful words had really done their job, scaring Xia Yu so much that she couldn’t recover even after dinner. She wondered if Little Ning would treat her the same way in the future.

Thinking of this, the Xiao Yu, playing with a teddy bear on the bed and staring at her phone, involuntarily glanced at her sister Little Ning again….

Jiang Kekai was still seated at the table working, and she was no stranger to Xia Yu’s anxious gazes. She wondered what made her appear so terrifying? Was Little Cute really that scared of her?

If she wasn’t still busy with work, having yet to finish her tasks for the day, she’d have surely jumped on the bed to properly teach Little Cute a lesson. Thus, Xia Yu was quite fortunate that Jiang Kekai didn’t have the time to discipline her right then….

She looked at her phone, then at Little Ning again, feeling weary from playing around. Lying down, Xia Yu continued to gaze at her sister.

How long passed, Xia Yu fell into a drowsy doze with her phone still lit up beside her. Clearly, she had reached her limit. By now, Jiang Kekai had finally finished her work and was giving herself a break before changing into her nightclothes and climbing into bed.

Xia Yu had already warmed up the blanket, and as soon as Jiang Kekai got under the covers, she felt how cozy and comfy they were—nothing beat having someone warm your bed for you.

Though Xia Yu was sound asleep, Jiang Kekai didn’t hesitate to scoop her up, holding her close in her arms. Otherwise… how could Jiang Kekai fall asleep without hugging her?

Predictably, Xia Yu woke up from the sudden surprise. She quickly realized what had happened and recalled the familiar sensation of being held by Little Ning as she turned around and confirmed it.

Plagued by Xia Yu’s peculiar glances all evening, Jiang Kekai wasn’t happy with how things had gone. But seeing Xia Yu so exhausted, she decided not to dwell on it:

“Tired, huh? Just go to sleep, don’t overthink things.”

“Mmm.”

Xia Yu genuinely felt sleep coming on, and shifting slightly in Little Ning’s embrace, she closed her eyes and drifted off.

Meanwhile, Jiang Kekai, having worked so intensely all day, was just as tired. Without giving it much thought, she nestled into the cozy warmth of Xia Yu, too.

Jiang Hanhan and Xia Ling had just concluded their pillow fight when things escalated because of their older sister’s lecturing them, and Xia Ling didn’t support her…

After the battle, tired and worn out, the two girls settled together, tucked under the blankets, and went to sleep.

They were used to such antics now; these moments had become part of their daily routine. If one day they weren’t going at it like this, they wouldn’t know what to make of it.

However, Jiang Hanhan and Xia Ling weren’t as exhausted as Xia Yu and Kekai, so after lights-out, they had some whispers to share.

This cold weather definitely made cuddling a lot more comfortable. Before long, Jiang Hanhan drew nearer to Xia Ling:

“So, when do you think Little Yu and my sister will tie the knot?”

Xia Ling replied: “Why would I know? I’m not them.”

“What about you, Lanhan Miss? Any plans? Ever given it some thought?”

Xia Ling’s eyes widened, looking at the ever-nearing Hanhan, her mind a mix of thoughts, “I don’t know about marriage, or for that matter, who I’d like. And you, Kekai?”

Hanhan scoffed lightly, “Of course, I’ve got my eyes set on someone. Only problem is, he’s too dense—can’t pick up on my hints! Isn’t it amazing?”

“Wait, weren’t you saying you didn’t have a boyfriend before? And this guy you just found? Who is he? Does my sister know?”

Xia Ling’s interest was piqued, despite the twinge of envy. She tightened her fist under the covers, yearning to know but not getting it.

“Nah, it’s none of your business,” said Hanhan teasingly, clearly wanting to keep the details to herself.

Xia Ling was left flabbergasted, “What’s with that?”

Her gossip radar activated, and now deprived of answers, she felt increasingly annoyed with Hanhan’s teasing.

But knowing Hanhan still had more questions lined up, Xia Ling stifled her impulse.

“So, when are you going to get hitched?”

Hanhan smiled, “Oh, whenever he understands and agrees. That suits me just fine too.”

Lost in her fantasies, Hanhan dreamily said, “It would be perfect if he could figure out his feelings earlier than my sister—or even be ready to marry both us!”

Xia Ling responded, “Well, your dreams seem pretty rosy.”

“True, but that guy is just way too dense. I mean, I give him loads of hints, but he never gets it. He seems intelligent enough otherwise. It’s frustrating.”

Tidying up her position, Hanhan leaned closer to Xia Ling, hoping for a better hug, “If he could just come around quicker….”

“You keep giving clues? Aren’t you always nearby? Online, then?”

“I wouldn’t be hinting online. Real-life encounters are better. It’s just that that annoying oaf keeps being dense and a bully. Really not endearing at all.”

Xia Ling sighed, “Doesn’t this feel like self-reference?”

“Maybe so,” mocked Hanhan.

“Alright, you’re lucky your sister likes my sister. You, the little heiress, marrying someone like me? Bless you.”

Hanhan was taken aback. Typically she’d capitalize on her win over Xia Ling now. But worried, she wondered: What if Xia Ling didn’t return her feelings? “That’s nice of you.”

Suddenly remembering advice she read online about being overly confident leading to heartbreak, Hanhan was unsure of her approach tonight.

Unable to come up with a strategy, Hanhan decided to distract Xia Ling. She ducked her head, then popped up, hitting Xia Ling square between her small chest, “Gotcha! Get it yet?”

Xia Ling, taken aback, “What’s gotten into you again? Don’t you remember tonight how hurt you are from earlier? Shouldn’t be adding more pain.”

Xia Ling grabbed Jiang Kekai and resumed play, causing a commotion.

“Ow!”

Hanhan held back laughter and gave in, letting Xia Ling indulge a bit more before addressing her.

“Still playing, huh? See any more trouble?”

“No, No, never again.”

Hanhan was quick on the uptake, sensing Xia Ling’s discomfort, “You won’t play anymore right? Or do you want me to keep punishing you?”

Xia Ling conceded, realizing she needed to stop, “No more, promise.”

Hanhan knew exactly how to handle her, “Then don’t push your luck. Now what about you…really like that person?”

Hanhan hadn’t noticed herself being pulled deeper into this topic, but she didn’t mind. Maybe now was the moment for the other to confess.

“We…got to the kiss stage…sometimes. Spontaneity, you know? But, she hasn’t come around like you want.”

“She kissed you?”

Fueled with a mix of emotions—jealousy, excitement—Hanhan couldn’t rest, imagining Xia Ling understanding and perhaps confessing.

But reality disappointed Hanhan, as Xia Ling still couldn’t make heads or tails of her crush’s intentions. Waiting fruitlessly, Hanhan shifted closer to Xia Ling and noticed…

Xia Ling’s tears.

“Are you okay?”

Hanhan instantly regretted her insensitivity towards Xia Ling’s plight. Sensing the hurt in Xia Ling’s voice, she gently tried to console, “Think we should address this…”

Xia Ling seemed to have a moment’s insight, “If he wants to ‘marry’ you…he’ll have to pass MY test first before you get away too easily.”

Hanhan swallowed hard, “Did…did I mess up?”
