Chapter 371: Skipping Class
“I actually have a crush on you.”
Jiang Hanhang thought fiercely in her heart, but Summer Ling had turned quite scary lately, so she didn’t dare spill the beans and quickly changed the topic: “Um… how about we go to sleep? Sleep.”
Fortunately, this time Summer Ling didn’t throw a fit and obediently said, “Okay, sleep.” And just like that, they spent a sleepless night.
The next morning, Summer Yu, Summer Ling, and Jiang Hanhang all showed up with dark circles under their eyes—it was clear their sleep quality the night before was less than stellar.
Looking at the three of them in such a wilted state, Jiang Kekai couldn’t bear to force them to go to school: “How about I call in a favor and give you all a day off? You can rest at home.”
“Really??”
Upon hearing they might not have to go to school, Jiang Hanhang was the first to raise her hands in approval. If that were the case, it would be amazing. “Um, today seems to be the opening ceremony, so it’s optional.”
“Then let’s skip it. Anyway, we’ve learned everything we need to, and our health is the most important thing! Let’s go back and catch up on sleep.” After saying that, Jiang Hanhang dragged the yawning Summer Ling back to the room and slammed the door.
Jiang Hanhang and Summer Ling were pretty clear about their intentions; it was now up to Summer Yu to decide. So, Jiang Kekai turned to Summer Yu: “What about you, Little Yu?”
“I don’t want to go either.”
Jiang Kekai wasn’t surprised by this answer—after all, most students prefer not to go to school: “Alright then, go catch up on sleep. I’ll handle the absence request.”
“Okay.”
After another yawn, Summer Yu headed back to her room to continue her slumber. She had no idea why sleep had evaded her the night before—it was just too tough.
Taking care of these three was really no easy feat. Jiang Kekai couldn’t help but chuckle wryly as she pulled out her phone to dial the principal: “Hello, I’d like to request a leave of absence…”
Just as Jiang Kekai finished her call, the phone rang again. She looked at the caller ID… oh, this was rich. As she answered the call, she walked over to the balcony to enjoy the view. “What’s up?”
“Miss Jiang Kekai, we would like to invite you to become our national image ambassador to attend a United Nations conference. This conference…” Before the person on the other end could finish, Jiang Kekai cut them off without hesitation: “No thanks, I’m not interested. Go find someone else.”
She hung up.
Jiang Kekai thought it was no big deal; she had turned down countless invitations like this over the past year. After all, there were so many international competitions and conferences each year. Even though it was a United Nations meeting—super important—Jiang Kekai really wasn’t interested. What could be more important than hanging out with her Little Cutie, Summer Yu? Plus, she was going to marry Summer Yu one day, and public opinion could seriously mess things up for them. She just wanted to avoid any unnecessary trouble.
This was also the reason Jiang Kekai had been so well-behaved over the past year; she wanted to downplay her genius status. While the downplaying hadn’t really worked, Summer Yu was still young.
By the time their wedding day arrived, there would be gossip, but Jiang Kekai didn’t want it to be too big. The fewer hassles, the better.
After that, she didn’t go back to her room and instead started working in the living room, so as not to disturb Little Cutie’s sleep.
Little did she know, Summer Yu had been waiting in their room for her to return.
That’s right! After getting used to sleeping next to Jiang Kekai, Summer Yu found it hard to fall asleep alone. Not even her teddy bear could help. Had Little Ning gone off to school without her? Summer Yu began to spiral into worry.
As time passed… the more she thought about it, the more likely it seemed. So, she got out of bed, slipped on her fluffy slippers, and went to check on things.
With a creak, she opened the door and peeked out, only to spot Jiang Kekai working away in the living room. Phew! Little Ning didn’t go to school after all; this made Summer Yu feel a wave of relief wash over her.
Jiang Kekai also noticed Summer Yu lurking: “What’s up, Little Yu? Aren’t you sleepy? Or are you hungry?”
“Um, neither.” She responded, with a hint of guilt as her eyes darted around. “Aren’t you cold out here, Little Ning? Maybe you should take another nap?” It was easy to guess Little Cutie’s mood; seeing her like this, Jiang Kekai chuckled knowingly: “I see! You can’t sleep without me around, huh?”
“Ah? Um~”
Though a little embarrassed, Summer Yu admitted it, fully aware of their dynamic and not trying to play tough.
Hearing this, Jiang Kekai put away her laptop with a smile that was both exasperated and fond: “You’re pretty special, huh? Alright, I’ll lay down with you for a bit.” Seeing how busy Jiang Kekai seemed, Summer Yu felt even more guilty about interrupting: “How about… you continue working? If you’re really busy, that’s fine.”
“As long as you need me, I’m always free. Let’s go sleep.” Jiang Kekai lovingly ruffled Summer Yu’s hair, then they both went back to the room for a much-needed nap together.
They all slept soundly until the afternoon, waking up hungry. Remembering Master Chen’s admonition from yesterday, Summer Yu realized she had to handle lunch today. So, Jiang Kekai called for fresh ingredients to be delivered while Summer Yu took charge of cooking.
Life may be a bit ordinary, but being able to cook for the person she liked made Summer Yu quite satisfied with her current situation.
Reflecting on her past life and comparing it with her present, Summer Yu felt a sense of luck: if becoming a girl meant getting love from Little Ning… that didn’t seem too bad.
The only issue was whether her dad, big brother, and the folks back home would accept her like this. Today’s lunch for the four girls was a three-dish-one-soup combo. Honestly, having someone who can cook at home is fantastic!
Summer Ling was unusually quiet until lunchtime, when she finally asked Jiang Kekai, “Hey, Big Bad Guy, did you know your sister has a crush?”
“Mm?”
Jiang Kekai shot a glance at Jiang Hanhang, who was trying to sneak away, and then turned back to Summer Ling, responding with a teasing grin: “Oh, I know. What’s it to you?”
“Who is it?”
Upon hearing this, Jiang Kekai realized her silly sister hadn’t confessed yet; otherwise, Summer Ling wouldn’t ask these silly questions.
But since her sister didn’t want to spill the beans, as an older sister, Jiang Kekai figured she wouldn’t interfere: “Hanhang seems like she doesn’t want to say. You can just ask her yourself; plus, you know that guy.”
“I know him?!” Unable to get the answer she was hoping for, Summer Ling lost all appetite for her meal.
