### Chapter 374: How About Bringing One Along?
Zhao Wei, who was driving, pulled up beside Lin Jie and his group. After Jiang Kekai got out of the car, she looked at them with a feigned curiosity and asked, “What’s going on here?” “Well, they came looking for Xia Yu, I thought they were like the previous bunch, so I had them detained.”
Lin Jie saw this as an opportunity to bond more with Jiang Kekai since romance was off the table. He just wanted to improve cooperation between their families.
Jiang Kekai had seen Lin Jie act this way before and wasn’t particularly touched. She walked over to the four people bound by the others and said, “Tell me your identities and who sent you here. If you lie, you probably already know the consequences.”
This…
The four of them glanced awkwardly at each other. They were hesitant about telling the truth, but the fact that Xia Le was actually working with Lin Jie and Jiang Kekai stunned them—they wished they had done more research beforehand.
Jiang Kekai’s patience was wearing thin. Seeing them dilly-dallying, she stood up and left, thinking to herself, If you don’t talk, I’ll just k*ll you and dispose of the body later.
“Wait!”
When the four people shouted in unison, Jiang Kekai’s lips curled up. She turned around to face them again and said, “Alright, spill the beans. Think it through before you say anything.”
They assumed Jiang Kekai, being young, didn’t have much real skill, and those rumors online about her being incredibly talented and rich were just exaggerated. However, witnessing her today confirmed that the rumors were true.
Now, they had no choice but to admit defeat.
“Actually… it was your second uncle, Jiang Tao, who sent us over. He told us to take Xia Yu when you weren’t paying attention.” With one person leading, others would follow.
“Yeah, yeah, we’re all part of the same family, so stop threatening us. It’s really your second uncle who sent us.” The third and fourth people chimed in.
Watching them speak in unison, Jiang Kekai believed they weren’t lying. She decided not to push them further: “Fine, let them go. Tell your second uncle that this will be the last time he can do something like this, or else I won’t be so lenient next time.”
Although it was Lin Jie’s team that handled the binding, Jiang Kekai’s authority remained evident. Her orders were carried out swiftly, even faster than Lin Jie’s words.
As for Jiang Kekai’s opinion, Lin Jie didn’t oppose, since it wasn’t about him anyway. “Let them go if that’s what she wants,” he muttered, as his objective had been achieved.
Watching the four leave farther and farther away in their car, Xia Le couldn’t help but turn to Jiang Kekai and ask, “Is your second uncle really going after Xia Yu? What’s going on at your place?” Xia Le was perplexed.
Jiang Kekai replied, “It’s a long story, and honestly, I don’t know why he’s targeting Xia Yu. Probably to please someone. But I won’t let him succeed.”
Xia Le: “…”
No one dared to argue with Jiang Kekai’s bold statements. Lin Jie felt that such a formidable girl likely wouldn’t find a husband easily. He was glad he hadn’t put all his eggs in one basket before.
But it made sense; only a girl like Jiang Kekai would have eyes for Xia Yu. He was lucky because she just wanted to marry him outright.
Meanwhile, the sleeping Xia Yu in the car was finally awakened. As she stepped out, she asked, “What’s happened? Are we home yet? Bro, how did you end up here?”
Lin Jie, Xia Le, and Jiang Kekai shared confused looks.
Xia Yu had fallen asleep immediately after getting into the car and hadn’t woken up until now, unaware of everything that had transpired.
But seeing Xiao Ning already out of the car and so many people around, she could tell something must have happened.
Jiang Kekai didn’t want Xia Yu to worry too much or stay up all night, so she dragged Xia Yu back into the car and said, “Let’s head back home. I was merely discussing some things with them.”
“Okay.”
As the car drove off, Lin Jie looked curiously at Xia Le and asked, “Have you figured out when Jiang Kekai is going to propose to Xia Yu? I’m thinking about preparing a gift.”
Xia Le replied, “I really don’t know.” “Seriously?”
Lin Jie seemed incredulous, “Isn’t Xia Yu your younger brother? And you’re okay with not knowing?”
Hearing this, Xia Le sighed, “Before, I was never close with Xia Yu. Now, she prefers hanging out with Jiang Kekai and Jiang Hanhang.”
Lin Jie recalled his interactions with Xia Yu and agreed, “Sure, let’s see if I can ask around when we get back. I think they might get married soon.”
Xia Le wondered, “Are you sure it’s good for Xia Yu and Jiang Kekai to be together?”
“Jiang Kekai, you don’t know how many suitors she’s rejected. Plus, she’s wealthy. You know she’s very protective of him, right? They’ve been together for ages.”
Thinking about his sister getting married, Xia Le struggled to imagine the scene. “I guess Xia Yu can’t help but stay with her since they’re so close.”
At home, Xia Hong, Wang Wenjuan, Xia Ling, and Jiang Hanhang were lounging, watching TV and playing games while the little golden retriever puppy explored its new surroundings.
Seeing the unexpected puppy, Xia Yu’s spirits lifted. She had always wanted a dog, but her grandparents never allowed it due to the trouble. She clapped to get the puppy’s attention and beckoned it over to let her hold it.
The puppy, which Lin Jie had bought for Xia Le for several thousand dollars, behaved well and rushed towards Xia Yu, letting her scoop it up. “You’re so obedient!”
Xia Yu petted the puppy’s head joyfully, wondering who had brought it home and why her parents allowed it now.
Jiang Kekai, of course, didn’t compete with a puppy for attention. She flicked the puppy’s head playfully and headed back to her room: “I need to get ready for a bath. Xia Yu, hurry up.”
“Got it.”
The puppy was so adorable that Xia Yu couldn’t put it down, holding it and sitting next to Jiang Hanhang. “Did you buy it?”
Xia Yu thought only Jiang Hanhang had the clout and influence to convince their parents. But Jiang Hanhang disappointed her by answering, “No.”
Xia Ling, tired of the conversation, took over, “Actually, it’s Lin Jie’s gift to your brother. He went out to get some dog food and toys, but you didn’t see him?”
“I did see him, but I thought he was playing around,” Xia Yu patted the puppy’s head. “I didn’t expect him to be buying stuff for the dog.”
Xia Yu was surprised that her parents allowed her brother to keep a dog indoors, but it made sense given his personality.
After fawning over the dog enough, Xia Yu set the puppy down and headed to her room to change for a bath.
Unfortunately, the puppy liked being played with and followed Xia Yu everywhere, despite its short legs, moving quickly.
By chance, she encountered Jiang Kekai coming out of her room.
Seeing the puppy trailing Xia Yu, Jiang Kekai firmly kicked it away and locked the door. She warned Xia Yu, “Don’t let it come into my room, or else…”
“Is it really that big of a deal?” Xia Yu’s voice echoed from inside.
“Just listen to me and remember. I’m heading for a bath now. Follow me later.”
Jiang Kekai bent down to find the puppy scratching at the door. With another soft push, she warned it again.
Jiang Hanhang shook her head in disbelief when she saw her sister tormenting a small puppy. When had she ever treated an animal like this?
This made her even more determined to get a dog of her own to tease her sister.
Flipping through some photos on her phone, Jiang Hanhang handed her device to Xia Ling. “Little Ling, let’s get a dog too, shall we? This one is handsome and cute.” Xia Ling frowned at the image on the screen. “Really?”
