Chapter 17: Retiring on the Spot After Getting a Cool Ride
“Ah, it’s Senior Yu Xin! What are you doing here?”
Night Lan asked curiously.
“Oh, just taking a little break. The battlefield for this Star Eclipse operation is pretty rare, and there’s no need for me to be on standby all the time. So, there’s really no point in sticking around the base; I’ll just head back by tonight,” Yu Xin replied.
Night Lan nodded thoughtfully at Yu Xin’s words.
“Got it. That makes sense.”
Before the Night Watchers figured out a strategy for this Star Eclipse, there was indeed no reason to hang around the base. Getting out for a breather before diving into the evening’s surreal dream world felt like the best choice.
“I understand! So, where are you headed next, Senior Yu Xin?”
“Oh, it doesn’t really matter. I was just going to wander around when I spotted you and thought I’d come over. But I should be the one asking: where are you off to?”
“Well… I was planning to check out the entertainment district of this city. It seems like I always have a rendezvous with fun spots no matter where I go. Plus, I’m just curious about what’s there,” Night Lan said, showing little wariness towards Wang Chao’s friend.
In her mind, Yu Xin was positioned similarly to Wang Chao.
Just a reliable strong ally.
After hearing Night Lan, Yu Xin pondered for a moment, then said, “Alright, I’ll take you there. Since I don’t have anything else to do, I’d like to chat with you a bit.”
Night Lan blinked, a bit flattered.
“Really? You’re okay with that?”
Having a Sunlight Night Watcher as her chauffeur felt a bit excessive, to be honest.

Night Lan followed her until they reached an intersection. Just as Night Lan wondered what Yu Xin was up to, she pulled out her phone and pressed a button, then just stood there waiting.

Night Lan stared at her back in confusion, too scared to say anything or ask questions.
A whole minute ticked by.
Suddenly, Night Lan heard a sound, and a flying car zoomed into view, landing right in front of them, the driver’s seat empty.
Yu Xin hopped into the driver’s seat and gave a casual head gesture for Night Lan to get in.
“Hop in! We’re off.”
“Oh…”
Night Lan obediently settled into the passenger seat and buckled up.
“Is this your car, Senior Yu Xin?”
“Yep, it’s pretty much standard for all Sunlight Night Watchers. Whether it’s for missions or personal use, we can take it anywhere we want on special roads, no traffic jams or anything to worry about.”
“Oh, I see.”
Night Lan suddenly felt how cool it must be to have her own car.
Come on, this is a man’s romantic dream, right?!
Plus, the ride of a Sunlight Night Watcher would surely be way better than anything for sale out there.

Night Lan nodded. “I should be able to. I got my driver’s license before, just never had money for a car.”
“Can kids even get a driver’s license?”
“I’m an adult now.”

I don’t need to strive for anything, and I don’t bear any significant responsibilities right now. The pressures of society don’t trap me, and I don’t have to worry about a bunch of messy stuff. I seldom encounter things meant to make me mature. I really like this feeling.”
“Is that so? Sounds pretty nice!”
Many people, upon reaching adulthood, don’t actually become what society considers ‘grown-ups’ until they’ve faced a ton of stuff and been forced to mature.
What this so-called “maturity” represents, Night Lan couldn’t quite specify.
Bearing the responsibilities one should take, perhaps?
